Hello! How long will last the Royal icing when you put it in the cookie? Thanks for the information you shared. It will help me a lot about the icing
@wilton Жыл бұрын
Hi Sherwin, your royal icing decorations made with meringue powder can be kept in an airtight container in a dry, dark place to prevent fading for up to 6 months, so they should last as long as your cookies do. I have a dehydrator and I’ve heard a tip to use a dehydrator to speed up the drying of the icing. Do you have any tips, warnings, or instructions on how to do this without ruining the look of my decorations?
@wilton Жыл бұрын
Hi Vicki, we have never tried using a dehydrator to dry royal icing, so we can't give any tips. We'd recommend trying to dry in front of a gentle fan instead. Hope that helps.

Can you freeze royal icing? If so, would you describe how?
@wilton8 ай бұрын
Hi! Good question. Unfortunately, royal icing does not freeze well. It will keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. If you don't have plans to use it within 2 weeks, we suggest creating your decorations in advance and storing those instead. I’ve heard that some recipes call for corn syrup because it gives a glossy sheen to the icing. Do you have any pro o con comments about that? Does the icing still dry as hard. I ship my cookies to my grandson and his family 2 states away.
@wilton Жыл бұрын
Hi Vicki, yes, adding a little corn syrup can give a little sheen. This blog lays out a lot of good suggestions you might find helpful: www.thefrostedkitchen.com/how-to-make-royal-icing-shiny/

@@wilton Thank you! That was very helpful! I’m new to cookie decorating but the big has bitten me pretty hard. I’m not yet skilled (or artistically gifted) BUT I’ve never seen anyone refuse to eat a sugar cookie because it was ugly! AND, unlike other artistic hobbies, I don’t have to wonder what I’ll do with my collection of crafted products. I might be diabetic (and eat cookies sparingly) but there are no storage issues. There are TUMMIES everywhere I look! Even so, I think I must have already spent $300+ for a collection of tools, sprinkles, and gel coloring. Wish me luck! I have 9 dozen cookies ready to decorate between now and Christmas Day. I have very lucky neighbors! They don’t know what’s coming their way.

We are so happy to hear this! Can we move into your neighborhood? 🥰 And there's no such thing as an ugly cookie. ❤️🍪 Keep up the great work.

Is this be done on cupcakes as well?
@wilton Жыл бұрын
Thin royal icing is best for cookies as it won't hold its shape on cupcakes. If you want to use it on cupcakes or for flowers, check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIC3cnmDesdpbJo

When I try this, there’s a line between my outline and my flood. They don’t really merge together into a smooth covering. What am I doing wrong?
@wilton Жыл бұрын
We would recommend letting your outline set up a bit before flooding. When you make your thinner icing for flooding, be sure not to thin it too much. Starting from the edges when you flood will help hide the outlines as well.
