I got into this situation a bit ago and almost lost my arm... What I learned was if your opponent has a machete and you have nothing then your 100% best bet is to just run away as fast as possible.

Dude I've been in tihs situation last year and believe me it's almost impossible to defend..better to run ...it's not like a knife...huge difference. It can easily cost u your life

Favorite weapon for SE Asian, African, Latin American gangs, lately increasing usage by UK London gangs. Cost to buy one is less than $20usd. Currently it's status in most places is a working tool so not yet illegal to carry on your person in most countries. Relevant to learn. For law enforcement I'd recommend wearing/ready cut proof gloves/sleeves entering 'hot' areas. Staying away from troubled areas is the best self defense/preservation for civilians. Criminals are just getting emboldened by a lenient almost non punitive legal system that views perps as society's victims.

If the attacker is passive and you have absolutely no way to escape, you need to feint to get the attacker to open up. If the attacker is closing in and you have absolutely no way to escape, you need to attack your attacker before they attack you because they are at an advantage.

Would kicking be a good defense? Kinda solves the range issue. Maybe this lesson will save my life one day, but most likely Im dead once I have to fight against a machete attack and cant flee in time, so are almost everyone else. But might as well go down fighting with full force if you cant flee so it might injure them badly enough to save their future victims.
