HOW TO: Diagnose Holley terminator x / x max, NO start

hi i have a ls3 twin turbo Gbody IM using terminator x max . on my first start up the engine only run for 5 second then shuts off .if i plug up the wideband it will not fire up at all

I just had my first start up and it ran good and started learning but when I gave it a little throttle it stalled now it won't start. Any ideas?

I think you may have just help me figure out why I can’t get my truck to fire. I have 12.1 volts but when I go to crank it over it drops to 10.0 and it’s only cranking 115-120 rpm. Time for a new battery.

I have a LQ4 6.0 liter MAP reads 86 it starts and runs good but driving it it cuts out Holley terminator x max drive by wire truck intake manifold Im not using the blue tube on the ecu please help

Help! On first start up it didn't start. Battery was at 11.9 volts. When i tried to start engine, it cranks but I would lose all electrical power briefly. Also fuel pump doesn't shut off after it starts the prime process, it runs continuously. Using Terminator x. On engine run stand.

Great video and all useful information So im having issues with the fuel pump circuit. My voltage drops from the relay under load. If I jump the small red wire to the green wire from the relay it works. And the the "87" red wire drop to zero when I crank. I double checked all my wires and none of them lose voltage when I crank

I have the terminator x max, on the first start up it ran like a dream. Days later I go to start it and now the driver side is not firing. Can you give me something to look for ???

Check your coil ground to the head for that side if you haven't

I will make sure to check on those things.. I'm having trouble with my Terminator X ...I am so stumped with this.. I don't know what to do now it's a 5.3 LS single turbo in a 1970 el Camino....

I mean it shouldn't matter if the head grounds are on one head or both. After all we're talking about resistance and at the ECU there is 0.02 resistance .. but I tried it and still engine backfires while trying to start and U have a no start

thats a lot of great info. I got my swap running and after only like 20 miles I was at a stop light and it died. I tried to start it and it says its super lean and only runs for like a half second then dies! just happened out of nowhere.

Like Lean limit? 32 afr? How much exhaust do you have after the wide band

@@Dirtfloorfab full exhaust. The wide band is installed about 4-5” from Stock exhaust manifolds. It was actually running and driving that’s what I don’t get. The afr says like 32% while cranking.

Depending on how you have the sensor mounted it could have killed the sensor if it's stuck on lean limit (which is 32 or 35 to 1)

So I replaced the wide band and no luck, it turned out to be the map sensor. I had a Holley 2bar in there (because I plan on installing a turbo soon) and I guess it went bad. I ran a vacuum line to the ecu map and all good now.

Is is ok to have the MAT sensor in the actual intake manifold rather than in the air intake tube?

Yes but if you have an aluminum intake like mine it'll heat soak more but it's fine to do it that way

Kinda out of order on that one I'd be checking spark and injector pulse first before jumping to exhaust leaks

My tps wont calibrate it says there is too little of a difference between min and max because it isnt reading. we checked the the wire power makes it to the ecu but the ecu wont read the tps let me know if you would know what is going on

I’m not getting any power from the fuel pump signal wire (green wire). Any ideas on troubleshooting that? The ecu has a 5 sec fuel prime set but the wire never goes hot on a test light

There's a fuse in the harness that is probably blown. If not it could be a ground issue. Also Holley only recommends 10amp continuous so if your pump is more then that it'll need run thru a relay

Hey I'm having the same issue did you ever figure out what your problem was? I metered all my connections and when I jump the wires at the relay it works But the red "87" wire drops voltage when I crank not sure if it's supposed to do that

@@sharkcitywarrior5485 I was having the same issue as you, I've been looking up at install videos and troubleshooting videos to see where I messed up. Turns out there's one ground wire I forgot to hook up. Comes out from the same place as the injector and green pump wire and I forgot I had fed it through the firewall and it was making me go nuts, I just fired it up right now and it started on first try, just open x pipe no mufflers. I hope my neighbors don't hate me for it 🤣

Is there a way to reformat the ecu? Because I'm an idiot, i changed the cranking perameter setting to 100rpm, so now it won't start even though I've changed it back to 400 and resynced. I think the ecu still thinks it has to shut down starting because it's cranking over 100 rpm.

You can delete the tune file and restart the wizard or start over with a new base file of using the laptop software

Blue means that it is functioning but not running. I assume it doesnt start up? Does it turn to red on either led while cranking? Have you tried it in crank sensor only on the laptop software?

@@Dirtfloorfab when I turn the ignition on, it's green but while cranking they flash from green to glue and back. Never to red. No it hasn't started. And no I haven't tried the laptop software.

@@07_mustanggtcs29 is it recording rpm on the dash while cranking? If so I would try to run it in crank only (non sequential) and see if it starts. Shoot me a PM on instagram or the Facebook group so I can keep better track of it and I'll walk you thru diagnosing it.

Yes it was the map sensor for some reason my 5v was getting like 2.5 on crank and cam and I found that my map sensor was good but for some reason was making it the rest drop voltage reference so I changed if for a SNIPER EFI MAP SENSOR 2.5-BAR and I got 5 reference on eavrything and checked fuel power and it worked it cranck on the first try
