How to disassemble an Eaton fuller 13 speed transmission

Very cool to watch other builders. I've built close to 300 heavy duty and medium duty manuals and auto shifts in the past few years along with some pto's and diffs from numerous manufacturers. It's a tough job but it is fulfilling for me. My absolute least favorite part is pressing countershaft gears off that have been burnt up or have sheared the key from major shockload. I use a 55 ton press and she goes boom when those bad boys finally let go. Much Respect to you.

Lol i know what you mean, i hate pressing off those burnt gears too, i step back 2meters away from the press 😂, but when that pop goes off i feel relieved 🤣 respect to you too brother this is a hard and heavy job.

Perty good upload but i was wanting to C how to pull the rear box of . I recon the main part is to drive the dial pins back through ??? I replaced universal joints hadd one bad . Soooooo i went for da rear tranny seal n front rearend . What ua nightmare it has been . When i pulled da rear tranny yoke the inside bearing came sliding off n two rollers hit da ground . The cage was broken . Well i ran around for seven wks gathering up parts n only put da rear bearing n race n transmission . Well needless to say i still have a vibration so im pulling da back box to take it to a tranny specialist to have it timed n da other bearing put n . I have another 13 sp i took outta my boom tk n it litterly locked up . I changed that tranny all by myself n my log yard . Using a car jack n diffently would not recommend doing that . Meanwhile ive purchased a new jack from harbor freight at a tenth of the cost of name brands . I really hate buying china made tools but at times all i can afford . Ive bought tools n da past n paid big money for them only to find da exact same thing at harbor freight . Thank U for the upload im sure itll help a lot of shade tree mechanics like myself . lol I do my own mechanic work for two reasons #1 cant afford to pay da high hourly wages #2 n most important i know its done perty much right as n cleaning parts before reassembly using new bolts n such . I bought 3 new universals n had to take 2 back that had pits on da journals. After arriving at da pts shop he brought out 2 more that was da same way . Evidently when they boxed m up they handled them with sweaty hands , one universal u could literally c a finger print on the shinny journal . Only my luck . I always say theres NO such thing as Murphys Law as i M Murphy . lol Thank you again .

Have you turned a RT6613 into a RTO6613? If so what do you have to add or change?

The only conversions we do is the RTLO’s upgrading the torques from 16 to 18,20 lbs. depends on what the customer wants. And whatever unit or core i get i would just rebuild it the same as it is. How would you replace the reduction o-rings on that transmission? Do you need to remove the rear like that?

If you’re just replacing the orings in the splitter cylinder and splitter valve you can just take out the four 1/2 bolts but if you’re changing the range cylinder you need take out the rear auxiliary box. I will be uploading how to rebuild it soon. Thank you for watching 👍🏼

Just a technical question? What would it take to swap out a 13spd Eaton to a 18spd Eaton? What would be the FIRST thing to look at?

If you have RTLO16913A you can swap to RTLO18918B as long as it’s both 9 series you can use the same bell housing and yoke. Length of both transmissions are the same. First thing to check is the ratio on your differentials to match the rpm for the 18speed.

Just one question how long does it take you to strip down a full unit?

30 - 45 mins, it depends how bad the core is, rust, burnt gears and bearings would take probably an hour to teardown. Thank you for watching 👍🏼

Believe it or not u can find a good deal on a tk transmission buying it from a junk yard . I bought one for 1000 dollars n it's a good tranny . Keep n mind they rough house them n several fittings were broken off .

You’re lucky you probably got a good one, but until when? If you just want to save a $1000 plus, i think it’s better to spend another $1000 or $1500 or a little more to get a rebuilt transmission instead of buying from a junk and you don’t know what your getting inside, you end up paying your mechanic again to take it off and to install another transmission. That’s just my experience from customers that decide to buy from the scrap rather than getting their transmissions rebuilt, after a few weeks or months they come back to my shop asking for a rebuilt transmission 🤦🏻‍♂️😄

What size socket for the output yoke nut?

I think mine was like a 2⅝"" . The socket I used was from an inch drive set I purchased at harbor freight because it had the right size I needed one other time I pulled a yoke off . Only problem was they r 12 point The nut I recently took off I was beginning to wonder if it was gonna back off . The little bit of plastic that locks really does an amazing job . I tried using my Milwaukee ¾" battery impact n it wouldn't budge it . Had to get out my ¾" earth quake air impact , that tool is a beast . N of course w an adapter on it to accommodate the 1" drive socket . Thing to keep n mind is if u need parts go to a transmission shop I ran around for 7 wks like a chicken w it's head cut off looking for parts n they will sell u anything . Also keep n mind if it back box has an issue the gears within has to b timed when putting n new bearings . I ran into this issue when I just replaced a bearing n race on the back of the 13dp box . I'm n da process of pulling da back box now . N it's been a nightmare n off course I work by myself outside n no garage w concert flooring . lol Good luck !

My 13th speed won't split the gears up what's wrong with it it just wants to grind

Either splitter gear, splitter yoke assy or splitter valve broken, if hi & lo is grinding might be the syncro too. You need to get the back section open to see the exact problem. I hope everything go well. Thank you for watching and your comment.

You should have pressure washed it before tearing into it.
