This is a great, powerful clip from their complete talk. I like the idea that awareness is the first step toward being able to respond (in the sense that we are able to respond to the present rather than react to some past hurt). We can begin to detect our triggers and intercept them once we understand that our emotional response is about the past rather than the present. And once we start intercepting our triggers, being curious about them, and stopping the dysregulating cascade... well, that's incredibly empowering and exciting. And the idea that we don't respond to a stimulus; we respond to our interpretation, to the story we make up in our heads. That we may shape our own realities by selecting what we pay attention to and then deciding how to interpret it. And knowing that our emotions may be the result of an interpretation based on translating a previous hurt into a present scenario offers us tremendous power. And I absolutely love the idea of either covering the world in burlap or purchasing a pair of shoes. We can either anticipate and demand a pain-free environment, one that does not trigger us, or we can learn to control our triggers. We have no power if we do not comprehend; we blame others for our outbursts. There is no control. But once we have comprehension and response capability, we know we have power. We are capable of transformation. Very powerful! Thanks for watching please dont forget to LIKE, COMMENT, & SUBSCRIBE, it really means a lot to me! 🙏❤❤

That's so hard when that's all you have ever done is keep the peace. At 58 I'm totally exhausted and have been through so much shit I started this healing process on my own . I still have the grieving, from all the death 6 kids and I'm the only one alive and it feel like I don't want to be here anymore. I would never take my life like my brother and sister did , but I want a break.

Two no win choices: 1) wear a mask, hurt yourself, be accepted, or 2) not wear a mask, hurt others, NOT be accepted. What if I prefer to wear a mask, and I prefer that others do too. I’ve watched many Gabor videos on this subject, and his argument for being “authentic”, is weak and not fully rationalized. It’s just a mantra: “be real” with everyone. How? With losing connection with them? “Oh, do it politely, and roll the dice”. Yeah…not a real solution, and might create more problems just to hurt others feelings (including mine), causing more stress.

It was impossible for me to get through my CPTSD until I started to write my fears on a page every day. I dumped them there. And then I release them. There is no analyzing in this process. I started that two months ago and from this process came more clarity and being able to see what is behind my behavior and thoughts. For the first time in my life I am beginning to heal. I am with the program, the Crappy Childhood Fairy. And if you were to do the program you'de see there is more learning than this. I believe it could heal your life.

"I hope people will listen to this interview in a very personal sense, and that this discussion with you will help people look at themselves in maybe a new way. So rather than self-judgment about stuff that went wrong or they did to themselves or others, they get curious. What made me do that? They get curious compassionately because we're all born just wanting to be loving and loved. And then something happens. And then it's a hard road back. But I hope that this conversation helps people reconnect with that path or encourage them to continue that."

"when i speak of healing, i'm referring to a natural movement toward wholeness...not an end state to being completely whole or enlightened. It's a direction, not a destination". Thank you for clarifying that. I've been on the healing path most of my adult life, and still at it in my senior years. It's meaningful work, but not fun.

The journey to true empowerment begins with the holistic healing from the trauma of our inner child. Thanks Dr
@spiceynye813
@spiceynye813 5 ай бұрын
And I believe that everyone needs this healing right now as the trauma we suffered from childhood is multigenerational. This conditioning throughout history is the reason we all have fragmented ego's which get replaced with an alter ego thus hiding an aspect of our true identity. Healing requires acknowledging, allowing the feelings to sit with us without judgement, accepting it's okay to feel and that every feeling is valid. Once we validate our emotions then we can release them and this is liberating and connecting to our true authentic ego self .
@Uche4Word

@spiceynye813 absolutely spot on. Every feeling is valid. The more we judge a feeling the harder it gets to be liberated from it.

Even if the contractor did disrespect him, which could be the case from construction people I have met (hard men) it’s not the end of the world. I spent quite a bit of my life in sales and had to learn to move on when people were ‘not nice’. Fortunately most people if you treat them in a positive and friendly way will respond in a like manner. Someone being a jerk does not reflect on you….
@yourinnerchildmatters
@yourinnerchildmatters Жыл бұрын
You've absolutely got it! It is true that encounters with very difficult people are unavoidable, whether in the construction industry or any other field. What matters most is how we respond. Your sales expertise has taught you that treating people positively and politely typically results in a similar response. Remaining resilient in the face of difficulties demonstrates your character. As you noted, the actions of others do not define who you are. Your ability to rise above and keep professionalism defines you. Keep nurturing positive interactions, and allow the good feelings to spread through all aspects of your work. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!💫💕🙏

Yesterday (Thanksgiving Day) morning, as I was imagining myself explaining to someone else about how I was able to get a feeding tube out of my own nose and that I was smiling and happy to be free from the GI food tubing device! I usually explain how after pulling out my GI tube for feeding my infant body, that my Parents had to take me to the doctors so they would put the tube back in my nose. When using a word to describe reinserting the GI tubing, the phrase, Put back in" is how my Mom would describe this experience whenever she shared me this story. (I also remember asking on occasion what happened about it, so I remember her using the word "Put", instead of a more forceful word. Though perhaps I don't remember.) Anyway, as I was sitting on my bed and imagining myself recounting this story about an experience I had as an infant, I remember a comment someone made about viewing themselves in a different light. Their husband encouraged them to view themselves as if they are seeing themselves as a child, and when they did, this different angle about themselves shifted their mindset from one of humor, to one of painful acknowledgement. So while pretending to have a discussion with someone, I thought I'd try to look at this scenario from my own words and viewpoint. As I was recounting this experience as my own words about myself, I imagined that I was talking about times when you are compliant for survival reasons, but that I chose to be a little rebellious in this situation when I pulled out the GI tubing! I then imagined myself telling this other person that the doctors needed to help reinsert the tubing. Next, I thought about telling them, slightly jokingly, "Well, they probably didn't just 'put' it in, because I was a baby at the time, I don't think I would have been as cooperative, since babies don't know how to cooperate and lie still. They (the medical staff) most likely had to hold me down and Shove it in!" While I really have had the experience with needing a tube down my nose to my stomach when I was older, I remember that I was more in control of swallowing and more aware of it happening (this was when I was in my 20's now. I think it was before an emergency operation for an intestinal blockage. Anyway, after imagining myself in the first person, as helpless infant, being re-forced into doing something that I most likely didn't want to have happen to me (Especially when I had gotten Victory over being Free from this tubing device!), it suddenly hit me....Hard! 😶➡️💥 And for the first time since hearing about this story, it became personal! This wasn't just a story about some poor kid who had to put up with this frustrating situation. This was Me!!! 😮 After it suddenly dawned on me about this connection, I cried! 😶➡️😮➡️💥➡️😭 Learning about my Personal Experiences helped me realize that I most likely have more to discover/uncover before I can start healing and progressing. Thanks for sharing this message.

Your comment touched me deeply, and I want to express my gratitude for your vulnerability in sharing such a personal journey. It takes incredible strength to reflect on our past experiences, especially those that involve moments of vulnerability and challenges. Your perspective on viewing oneself through the lens of a child is profound and brings a unique layer to the understanding of our own experiences. The realization that this story isn't just about someone else but about you, adds a powerful depth to it. I appreciate your willingness to share this part of your life and the emotional journey it stirred within you. It's incredible how revisiting our own past can bring new insights and opportunities for healing. Remember, you're not alone in this journey, and your openness may resonate with others who are navigating their own paths of self-discovery and healing. If you ever feel like sharing more or seeking support, this community is here for you. I am sending you warm thoughts and encouragement on your ongoing journey of self-discovery and healing.

I just want to heal from my trauma. I feel I need someone to tell me how. How do I get over the pain and fear? I want to but don’t know where to even start. A good therapist is way outta my financial range. So how do you do it? Where does one start?

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. It takes a lot of guts to reach out in a manner such as this. I'm sorry to hear you're going through such a difficult time. While I am nurse but I am not a skilled counselor, I can provide some some suggestions to assist you begin the process of healing. 🌿 Self-Compassion: Begin by being nice and understanding to yourself. Recognize that healing takes time and that it is normal to feel this way. 🌿 Educate Yourself: Understanding trauma and its consequences can be liberating. There are plenty of internet tools, articles, and books available that can offer insights and techniques for coping. 🌿 Mindfulness and Grounding: Mindfulness and grounding skills can help you stay present and deal with overwhelming emotions. 🌿 Support Network: If possible, communicate in friends, family, or support groups. Connecting with individuals who have gone through similar experiences can be very comforting. 🌿 Creative hobbies: Engaging in creative hobbies such as writing, sketching, or playing music can help you deal with your emotions. 🌿 Routine and Structure: Creating a daily routine can provide you with a sense of stability and predictability in your life. 🌿 Physical well-being can be improved through regular exercise, a well-balanced diet, and adequate sleep. 🌿 Since you stated financial limits, look for online forums, free classes, or resources designed exclusively for trauma survivors. 🌿 Journaling: Writing down your feelings and thoughts can help you process them over time. 🌿 Professional Assistance: While counseling can be costly, some therapists provide sliding-scale prices, and other places have low-cost or free mental health clinics. You could look into neighborhood services or non-profit groups that offer mental health assistance. Remember that recovery is not a straight path, and it's fine to seek help along the way. Take small steps, be patient with yourself, and celebrate in your accomplishments. You're stronger than you realize, and your dedication to healing is an important beginning step. On your journey, I wish you strength and positivity💕🙏✨💖

I have a quote for you and it may sound weird at first. "Show, don't tell". Having the trauma still around, (I'm still healing from being gaslighted myself) in your head kind of traps you in a story or narrative. I suggest, and this will suck but it works, you relive the trauma BUT do not label your emotions that come up. FEEL them instead, note how your body feels. Don't just say your anxious, describe how your body feels anxious. focus on the sensations, and then forgive youself. Its fare to easy to beatyourself up with hindsight, you cannot blame youself for not having the wisdom you gained after the fact.

On page 361 in the Myth, Gabor says "I do not define healing as an end state"...then on the following page he says "healing is best seen as an end in itself"...is this a misprint, or am I missing something...what?
@sonicheart8940
@sonicheart8940 Жыл бұрын
What does it mean to be an end in itself? : something that one does because one wants to and not because it will help achieve or accomplish something else. (from dictionary). I believe Gabor is referring to healing as an ongoing process of aligning with a sense of wholeness.

I think the phrase ‘seeing oneself as a victim’ is so so over-used and often just plain incorrect, implying that that perception is wrong, but many people are terribly victimised..so they are correct they are victims. I think he would be better to use..the terms helpless or powerless .. People can’t see what they could possibly do to escaped their circumstances.
@yourinnerchildmatters
@yourinnerchildmatters Жыл бұрын
Certainly, your point is well taken. The terminology used to describe these challenging circumstances is important. While the phrase "seeing oneself as a victim" may be overused, it is important to recognize that many people are truly victims of their circumstances. In other circumstances, the labels "helpless" and "powerless" may be more realistic, emphasizing the lack of options and means to escape their situation. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Appreciated 💖💗

Yes I’d like to almost ban that phrase ‘thinking like a victim’.. who uses the phrase most? Narcissistic abusers.. ..many victims have not only been profoundly victimized, but a major part of their abuse has also been, being told they are over-sensitive and ‘thinking like a victim’ when they try to stop the abuse or express their pain. I think Maté has an excellent understanding of general trauma, but he doesn’t really understand or talk about narcissistic abuse.

@@annastone5624I understand what you’re saying and agree that in this context, it’s not a good choice of words. But it’s a generalization and no matter what phrase is chosen, someone will feel hurt or offended. I’ve been a victim of a narcissist. But I chose not to be a victim of Dr. Maté’s choice of words here…. Knowing full well that that is NOT what he intended. I hope you are well and can see the nuance there ❤

@yourinnerchildmatters
@yourinnerchildmatters Жыл бұрын
Good question! 'Heal your true self' refers to the psychological and personal growth process in which we attempt to connect our behaviors and ideas with our authentic views and goals. While the concept of'self' can be difficult to understand the goal is to treat emotional wounds and bad patterns, allowing us to live more genuinely and positively. 🌱🌟

Hi! I’ve watched a couple of these videos and they’re interesting. One of the issues and struggles that I have in my life and I’m going to therapy for is having walls. As much as I push some people away deep down, I do desire a deep connection with someone
