Yes, this is very good stuff, Jeff. Even in an MMA or other fight, this can be used should you simply get caught with your hands down and there's not enough time (or energy) to shell up. Or even to duck out and get some distance like you've shown. At any rate, it is good practice, good exercise, and helps put some diversity in your repertoire.

You get angry when you just miss. I would try to use a lot of feints and fakes before hitting. Also I have heard that long chained (fast) combos are good against an evasive opponent as evading one single hit is way easier than 5 in a row. Maybe Jeff could do a video on "How to fight/spar an evasive fighter". I would appreciate that.

@Nergal1234 жыл бұрын
Head kicks are a problem when using philly shell. But if you haven’t seen it already, Ramsey Dewey has made a video on its effectiveness in the pocket. He explains that the philly shell is a great counter grappling stance since you will get an underhook if they try to tie you up. Also in such a close position it’s very hard to head kick you and they will probably have to clinch or post on you to do so, same with knees, which as said before it is difficult to be clinched in the first place when in philly shell since your most likely to get the underhooks or the over under position. And we already know it’s effectiveness against punches in the pocket. Great stance for the Boxer Wrestler, especially infighters.
@theboltthrower86614 жыл бұрын
@@Nergal123 I`m also subbed to Ramsey but I`ve not had the time to watch all his material, that vid looks interesting I`m gonna check it out right now after this one, now that I`m in quarantine and today is rest day. BTW I said in this vids comment box that the Peek a Boo would be more MMA friendly than the Philly Shell... what is your opinion on that?
@BRAINFxck104 жыл бұрын
@@Nergal123 yes but the Ramsey Dewey video on countering grappling from this stance only shows wrestling based grappling and not Thai clinch grappling because elbows will land over the shoulder but Israel Adensanya has been able to incorporate the better aspects of the Philly Shell defense into his MMA/Kickboxing game
