One thing to keep in mind about this is that you can accidentally drain your tank onto the floor this way, especially if you have ADD tendencies like I do. So, don't put the upper end in your aquarium very deep. Only put it about an inch or two under the surface. That way if you do forget and go to bed, it won't drain your whole tank while you sleep. Yes, you can drain your tank a drop at a time. :) Another is to just set an alarm to check it every 10-20 mins. I do both.

What if you plop and drop and the PH from the fish store or if you got your fish online has vastly different PH's? I brought home a group of Orange Venezualan cories the other day from my LFS, and put them in a large fry tub to inspect them and target feed them some really good foods, then added some aquarium water from the aquarium where they were going into. It turns out that tanks PH was 6. The store is in the mid 7 range. Don't quite know why but when I added that water in that tank to the fry tub the cories were in, one died almost immediantly. I put some other water in and the rest didn't die, but 2 more died in the next few days. Plop and drop would of killed ALL of those fish...right? So how important is teh shock from PH? Would of a nice drip saved those fish? I brought home a small group of C. sterbei today and the tank was still at 6, so I did a 50% water change, got it to 6.8 and am dripping. I kinda feel if I had plopped and dropped those fish, they would have died...true?

Hi there! One of the drip acclimation method's strengths is helping fish transition between pH levels that would otherwise be too stressful for them. We definitely recommend dripping fish you get from that LFS in the future!
