I've done that job. Hardest part is to figure out where to put the disassembled pieces. On mine one of the wheels was seized on its shaft and out of round, I used acetone to break the glue seal on felt gasket. That glue they give you with the kit is outstandingly adhesive. I still have the tube 8 years later and use it for all sorts of gluing applications. Nice job Taryl!

A nice enjoyable DIY video, it's sure to help a lot people in the future. My old Sears dryer is over 30 years old and still on the original belt and seals, but a couple of sets of rollers along the way, I had to clean the gas valve once and I think that needs doing again. I sprayed the seals with silicon lubricant when I had it apart last time. I'll be lucky if I don't have to replace the belt sometime this week since I posted this (knock on wood). I think I heard or saw that dryer fires are the number one reason for fires in the home, from built up lint.

At 12:48 that little nylon spacer actually goes on the outside of the idler wheel so it doesn't rub directly on the retaining clip. When you put the wheel back on you turned it around. You can tell by the black rubber mark around the outer edge of the wheel. It was on the outside when you took it off & on the inside when you put it back on.

My ex had a dog grooming shop and has a front loader washer and I did the boot inbetween the drum and door and it was easy to get the old boot off but back on was a pain in the a$$. Other than that it was easy. Most appliance's are easy to repair. Really there is not much on the inside of any of them stoves included. Hot Water tanks (not gas ones) are stupid easy. I can completely rebuild the entire electrical on a hot water tank in 20 min. Seriously if you are having an issue with your hot water tank watch a video and do it yourself. For under a hundred bucks you can have hot water again. Good job Taryl
@allrock12384 жыл бұрын
The one step that really helps dryer efficiently when its cleaned is to take the time to access and clean the blower wheel of lint , its a little more work to access the blower wheel but one will be surprised how much lint gets built up on the vanes of the blower and it really reduces the Air the blower can move ..

One very important step. After hooking the flexible gas line back up to the dryer. Spray soapy water around the fitting and make sure you do not see ANY bubbles. If you don't see any bubbles this can prevent a gas leak.

I worked for Lowe's over 30 years ago as appliance dept. head. Maytag reps. would come, take a quarter on edge and beat the crap out of the top of Maytag washers and dryers to show their durability. Taryl. If you ever work on a gas appliance look over the flexible gas line for damage. If it's an older line that is not plastic coated I would recommend you replace it for safety sake. Stuff gets on the bare metal lines and can corrode a hole through the line and cause a leak. I've had a line on my gas stove and gas dryer that developed a leak where something got on the bare metal and caused corrosion and started leaking. I worked at The Hoover Company when Maytag bought us. Then Whirlpool bought us (Hoover and Maytag). Whirlpool didn't want Hoovers so they sold Hoovers to Techtronic Industries (China) and now Hoovers is no more in the USA and I work for someone else.

I had that same washer/dryer set until recently. Had the bearings go bad on the washer twice. Sounded like a jet engine on the spin cycle. Replaced them myself the first time. Two years later they failed again. Went out and got a new washer and dryer. Never had a problem with the dryer though.

Outstanding video Taryl. I can't believe how cheesy Maytag makes dryers now that is so sad to watch in this video,it's built like a child's toy inside with a tin box around it. I still have my mom and dad's commercial Maytag washer and dryer from 1976 and nothing is ever been replaced on either one of those machines,they both average about two loads of laundry a week and they were built back in 1976.(44 years old) The belt that runs my dryer is identical to one that runs a supercharger on a top fuel dragster, it's a big geared belt that's about 3 in wide,with 1 inch long teeth and it's never been replaced. The belt pulleys are machined stainless steel.
@quantumleap3594 жыл бұрын
If you think this design is cheesy, look inside a Junk Electric dryer (GE). They don't use idler wheels on the door side of the drum. Just a plastic slide bearing (?). Piss poor, but I have to admit, it will run for a long time before the front bearing (?) wears through and it starts squealing.
@RANGUIDRY4 жыл бұрын
@@quantumleap359 This is a standard Whirlpool/Kenmoor dryer design since Maytag was bought out by Whirlpool. Hey; if it works it works.
@jordandoe27684 жыл бұрын
great job and this absolutely would be the best way to do it for someone who has never done it before but having worked in the appliance field for a few years I can tell you that 99% of appliance techs would never need to remove the back to connect that belt. I would always completely remove that lint screen housing and reach my right hand back there next to the pulley while holding the drum with my left, once the belt is set correctly the drum will rest well enough to get the front cap back on and then assemble the front but of course after you do it a few hundred times its super easy lol. Just wait till the nut comes loose and the belt pulley falls off that Bravos washer, you'll have another fun project.

Stoppin' here for right now at almost the 8 minute mark with a question. Even if we diligently clean out our lint slot, are there other ways to prevent lint build-up inside the dryer to prevent a fire from starting? Getting ready to watch again...I could be back with more questions. :)

Something to mention in the name of safety, appliances like this are full of lots of extremely sharp, stamped steel parts. You have to be very cautious where and what you put your hands on or rub your hands over, you will get cut very easily.

I spose since everyone is fixing the stuff they put off; I just changed the drum roller wheels,idler and belt on my Kenmore dryer this morning. PartsTree wanted $54.00 + shipping, Amazon, was a fuzz under $29.00 OEM Whirlpool parts to the door. Ordered Thursday about 7:30 pm, in my hand Saturday, at 12:15. OEM, just like your stuff , just different. That stuff isn’t lint, it’s Juniors worn out socks I actually had to remove the back panel and the lint chute, the lint filter doesn’t catch the heavy stiff. Go ahead and give the old girl a reach around

Put 2 drops of synthetic motor oil on the bearings. Synthetic grease will work too, since it won't dry out with age. Dry metal on dry metal after years of running is a bad idea.
