Great drill for me to feel the swinging of the club with no impulse to hit at the ball. Thanks, really enjoying the more frequent videos.

Dan, Is this also possible with a driver?

isn't the shaft lean also caused by the wrist position at impact?
@danmartingolf2 ай бұрын
The wrist position should be caused by the intent of extending the radius - if you use your wrists to lean the shaft, then it is fake and will suck energy out of the swing. Thanks!

Thanks Dan. Is this what VJ Singh does in his golf swing?

Cool comment and observation. Vijay and Fred Couples both remove some of their grip on the club just prior to the club striking the ball. Vijay on the right hand and Fred on the left hand. I can't tell you how they arrived at that as their normal technique, but i think it's definitely related to what I'm talking about in this video! My guess is that letting go simply worked better for both of them and they just stuck with it!

I noticed when you swing the pro your lead arm bends considerably but when you swing a regular club it stays pretty straight. I guess I’m kinda confused about how swinging the pro harmonizes with making your regular swing if that makes sense.

Totally makes sense - let's look at this in a different way. What would be the optimal technique if we all had to play golf with clubs that had ropes or cords as shafts? Keeping your lead arm straight would probably make it really difficult to be effective. Because the golf club is rigid in design - it's naturally more optimal to transition at a point where the club is at it's most weightless point. This leads to a "look" of the lead arm being straight. Lead arm "straight", i would argue, is simply the evolution of a "natural" motion with a rigid club! In the hundreds of golfers I've coached with the PRO - a bent left arm has never resulted as the optimal way to apply the physics to the club. Thanks!

Absolutely! And remember that "shaft lean" is just a look - but it's definitely a product of the most efficient way to the ball!
