Hey coach, great video as always. I have a really big problem that I don't know how to solve it. After I recorded my shooting, I notice that even tho I finish holding my follow through, it always seems like I'm pushing the ball with my arms, instead of getting that nice touch to put in the basket. Is there any exercises I can do to improve this?

Coach is shooting off your pointer finger bad?
@GottiGzz243 жыл бұрын
Not at all Kyrie shoots like that, just try shooting off ur middle finger to see I its more comfortable, if not the keep using pointer finger
@Fartyguy Жыл бұрын
Pointer, middle, and ring are all fine. Ring finger can cause some issues but if you have a solid foundation it won’t cause any. Some people shoot with pointer and middle finger (like me) which is totally fine as well

Hey coach, I used to flick with my off hand thumb all the time and until recently I’ve changed that and making that change on my spot up jumper and free throw was relatively easy. My problem is that I go back to the habit when I’m off the dribble or taking a post fade or any type of leaning shot. Any tips regarding that problem?

Basketball Flick
@kevinsutube1p5283 жыл бұрын
All good advice. Except for the main point of the video. Why should young players try and avoid using an off hand thumb flick when the current greatest shooter on the planet, Steph curry, uses a thumb flick? So does Kyrie.

Stephen Curry doesn’t thumb flick… He actually keeps his thumb tucked in at the last second before he launches the ball. (curry has even said this himself). So he doesn’t thumb flick. Kyrie Irving and Seth Curry, Brandon Ingram for example are thumb flickers. Thumb flicking is just common sense it adds an extra factor in shooting the basketball. You would generally want the EASIEST most simple way of doing something. Relying on an extra step in the process leads to a smaller margin of error. As a college basketball player, shooting coaches generally say “If you shoot extremely well then why change your form” however 3/4ths of thumb flickers tend to shoot worse. That’s all. Don’t forget thumb flicking only happens from shooting too far aka forcing yourself to reach the court from distance. It’s essentially a bad habit mostly from people who shot too far as kids. So it can be prevented in general at a very young start.
