Do want to emboss using embossing folders, texture plates and stencils but you don't have a die cutting machine? No problem! I'll show you how to emboss the low tech way. Even if you have a die cutting machine you can emboss with I'll show you how to emboss a large sheet of paper with a standard smalll embossing folder. We are kicking it old-school today! I just discovered this for myself with the embossing folders this morning. I settled on plain old damp printer paper after using other weights of paper. I tried many things and the least messy and best that I came up with was 2 pieces of damp printer paper with 3 pieces of thin tin foil between them. Then let dry with the foil left in the center because when I separated the foil from the paper some of the shape relaxed out as the paper dried. In the back of my old mind I remember something about embossing with heavy clothing starch. As soon as I go to the store I will be trying that to. Dampen the paper with heavy starch instead of water.

Thank you for sharing, I love that you are using the same techniques I used when I first started crafting some 15 years ago! You also have the same stencils an texture plates. I must get them out again!. I found that an upside down glass oven dish over a led tealight works just as well as a lightbox. ( in fact you don't have to use you precious storage space ;) )

This was a great video. I remember when I first started crafting way back in the "dark ages" we used a rubber mallet and tapped the design in the paper and we made our own stencils out of cardboard or thin wood. I don't have any of those great machines used today but I still do manage. Thanks

Mind. Blown. 🤯 Here I am, ELEVEN years later, learning that there are several organic ways to use my embossing folders and even die cuts without a machine. I can’t tell you how HANDY 😂 this is if I don’t want to bring my Sizzix with me on a trip! … or even to my dining room table. Lol Thank you!

Love your cost saving techniques! Just checked on ebay....your rolling pin is selling for $90. Looks like it is a Murano...might want to set it aside and get dollar store wooden rolling pin!

Thank you for sharing this, even though it's 10 years old! I wasn't even into embossing 10 years ago, and had no idea what fun it is! BTW..absolutely love your rolling pin! It's gorgeous!

Found this old video, but I LOVE it. These older methods are more artistic and give a great handmade feel to a project. Thank you.

Ok, I laughed so hard with the rolling pin because it's actually one of the method I tried to emboss without a machine :) But I wasn't putting any water on the paper so it was really a bit of a workout to get an embossing :) Then I tried putting the folder between 2 sheets of plywood and steping on it. The problem that way was having the same pressure on every inch of the surface. But it still worked on thicker paper. Since then I bought a Cuttlebug on sale at Walmart and I don't regret it ;)

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have been hesitant about buying a machine because I don't think I would use it all the time. This is definitely worth trying. I love watching your videos. I learn so much. I can watch you all day.

Excellent review of each technique. I have used brass stencils for longer than many current crafters have been alive! Machines have taken the “handmade” basics out of crafting and expanded the creative possibilities infinitely.

Love your videos! I'm new to this, and I can't believe how expensive everything is. On KZbin, a lot of the videos are just trying to sell things, not actual tutorials. Thank you for your help!

Every time I peruse your videos I find one I haven’t seen. This is brilliant! I have a Big Shot but it has to stay stored when not in use and is a big hassle to pull it out and set it up. This tutorial just saved me a bunch of time. Thank you so much for teaching me these tips!
