All makers are hoarders. Just ask Peter Brown! One of the other nice things about Nerf Modding is that you can cut out sections and replace them with textured EVA foam. It really makes the grips feel and look cool!

Whenever I sand my Nerf blasters' warnings off I like to keep the WARNING and symbol in place, and occasionally a few other words, so it looks like there were some instructions there on how to not have this thing blow up in your face like an overcharged plasma rifle.

Great video Bill! I'm glad to see that you did get some of that perf board that was recommended. It does make these electronic projects easier. The only thing that I would have added would be a momentary switch activated by the trigger that lights up a different color LED for a "blaster bolt" effect.

Looks really good, better than most of us could do for sure.. I think I would have done a little silver dry brushing around some of the high points to make it look more beaten up. The rub and buff on the screws was a nice touch.

I would love to see you mod the tools you use everyday to look cool, but still function. Like strip a heat gun down to the basics and rebuild it to look like a blaster, but maintain its functionality.

For a future project I suggest eather the vermin or plasma carbine from the outer worlds, both look awesome and would probably require different styles to make.

Looks Great! Did you thin the Tamiya paint? Tamiya paint generally needs to be thinned for it to have the best results. When spraying metallics, it's best to use a gloss black base coat to make it really pop. Other than that, love the cyberpunk vibes of the prop!

Superglue and baking soda make a great plastic bond. It basically becomes a form of plastic when mixed. You have to work fast but you can build it up, it is sandable and paintable...

*something else that might be useful if looking for an interesting texture, especially for grips and handles...gaffers tape... very tough and sturdy that can be weathered even more with acrylic paint...and then later sealed...especially useful if you want the weapon you're constructing to look like it's seen a lot of usage, and front line dings and infantry repair on the fly* *would love to see you do a collaboration with the create scifi channel here on youtube if you've not done so already*

Obviously it's going to vary from project to project depending on the amount/type of LEDs and batteries, but what's the expected battery life for something like this?

That's a great question. I imagine it's similar to a small flashlight or computer mouse, but I'm not sure!

That's really nice. I always like slot-barrel energy weapons. It's a cool aesthetic, since -who says it needs to be round-? And those old Dart Tag nerf blasters are neat sci-fi shells.

Old school techniques. No CNC machine or 3D printer. While those are useful, the classic frankensteining of a prop is always better.

Something that might help to reduce the amount of necessary LEDs is to paint the interior Crome or silver. I guess you could use aluminum tape.

Hey Bill, I have a technique question. Do you think plaster bandages are just as good as that fancy (expensive) plastic clay and the like for making mother molds?

You'll end up with the texture of the bandages. They'd work as a mold jacket (a hard shell that goes around the outside of some silicone molds for support). But silicone is pretty much always your best bet for making molds.

Fairly new to foam working. I went to TNT cosplay supplies and they have a lot of options of foam Eva -38 , EVA- 70 . I know that it is different shore hardness. But I have no idea what constitutes using one over another. Hope that makes sense any information that can help would be greatly appreciated.

That basically equates to density! The more dense the foam, the less flexible it is.

@@punishedprops ok sorry another question is there certain situations where you would want to use a high density foam for a type of build over another? Example: for a mask or helmet you would never use any other foam for that build other than EVA - 38? Or is it more of a personal choice ?

it kinda looks like a hand cannon or one of those rapid firing blasters from destiny2 , i forgot how the fast one its called, always used the hand cannon more

Yeah! Tons of folks use it for exactly that, especially in the Star Wars costuming communities.

When working with thin plastic or acrylic drill a small 1/8” pilot hole and then drill out what size you need in reverse and let it melt its way threw
