*Update - November 2019!* Please note that if you have just watched the video tutorial on KZbin, I have now simplified *Step 8* and have already edited the Frame Server script files, so that they now work without having to do any manual edits! All you have to do is download the zip file and install using the instructions at *Step 9* in the article. Detailed instructions are available on my website here: msz.tips/tutorial-vegas-handbrake

@MovieStudioZen Жыл бұрын
This tutorial is broken and does not work in Vegas Pro anymore. I need to try and fix it. What I recommend you do is use a completely different method, which does work and is a lot simpler. Install an app called Voukoder. www.voukoder.org/forum/thread/783-downloads-instructions/ It comes in 2 parts. You need to install the App and the Connector. Once installed, Voukoder will appear as an option in the Render As window. Voukoder uses a similar render engine to Handbrake and works just as good as Handbrake.

Quick question, I have used Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12 for several years now and was I recently offered an upgrade from Sony at what seems to be a reasonable price. I believe that its the latest version, however I am not sure of the exact software model. Would this new version be pretty comparable to the version that I am currently using? Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12, I know is a fairly old model, so I didn't want to get this latest upgrade if it was a very different approach, as far as work flow and usability. Thanks for your time and experience! Jerimy at Little Drummer Channel

One of the next videos I will be uploading is my (very late) review for VEGAS Movie Studio Platinum 15 and VEGAS Pro 15. Here is a simple answer for you: Movie Studio Platinum 12 was one of the best versions of Movie Studio ever released! Version 15 has a lot of User Interface changes to modernize it. The No.1 feature for Version 15 is the new Graphics Card accelerator and video encoder. If you have a modern Nvidia Graphics Card in your computer and/or use a modern Intel CPU, it is worth upgrading to v15. The new MAGIX AVC encoder will give you much faster render times! If you are using an old computer, it's probably not worth upgrading. Regards Derek :)

I have an update to my question, sorry I forgot to include this earlier. :) What I am using now is Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite edition with the True Blue extras. The upgrade offer is for VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Platinum or the Suite edition. Thanks again for your time and help through the years my friend!

Hello Derek and thanks so much for you speedy response! We just purchased a new desktop this week and this helped so much with the rendering time, what used to take about 1 hour and 45 min. for a 6 min. video only took me 18 min to render yesterday!! You mentioned graphics cards in your reply, here is what our new desktop has: NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 graphics card with 2GB DDR3 dedicated memory. I am not the most savvy person with my knowledge base about software, but it seems to be a big improvement from what we were using previously. Is this a good graphics card/software for the newer versions as well? Thanks again for your time! Jerimy at Little Drummer Channel
@maxcroon26126 жыл бұрын
Hey, I will also try to help you. The suite and the platinum versions are basically the same editing program, the suite is just the platinum edition with a nice extra portion of sauce. If you upgrade, there is no real difference if you take the more cheaper platinum version. Then, you just don't get the additional extras of suite. But the old ones from your MSP12 Suite editions should work just fine in the new build. So only upgrade to VMS 15 suite if you want the new extras, but you won't get any new features less in the program compared to an upgrade to VMS 15 platinum. Hope I was able to answer your question :) Greetings from Germany, Max

One of the components for this tutorial has been upgraded to a new version. I am talking about Debugmode FrameServer 3.0 I have written new instructions in my online article here. Please read carefully! msz.tips/tutorial-vegas-handbrake
@G.T.E4034 жыл бұрын
You're tutorials have always been easy to follow and when I had trouble with Frameserver you where quick to help me fix the issue. However a new but very slight issue has occurred when I click on "Send2Handbrake" in Vegas Pro 17. It's all the normal automated activity that runs in the first "cmd" window, but when the second "cmd" window pops up, Handbrake takes a very long time to open and by the time it does open, Frameserver will begin to un-mount. It is solved by me having Handbrake already open which seems to get Frameserver to wait for Handbrake, but it will always open a new instance of Handbrake so then I need to close the old window and then go ahead with encoding my video. The only thing I can think of that could have possibly effected this are updates to Pro 17 and Handbrake, is it a possibility that I need to install a newer version of Frameserver ?
@MovieStudioZen4 жыл бұрын
Vegas Pro 17 should still work OK with my original instructions. It was only after Vegas Pro 18 was released, that you MUST install the new version of DebugMode FrameServer. I would recommend trying the new version of DebugMode Framerserver. You will need to uninstall it first, before installing new version. I would also recommend reviewing ALL your settings. Please note that in my article, I have now pre-edited ALL the scripts, so you only have to download and install them now. Read carefully my updated instructions here: www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/sony-vegas-pro/590-render-video-from-vegas-pro-to-handbrake#a5 It might be a good idea to uninstall Handbrake and re-install from fresh download. ADDITIONAL: You may like to try a different rendering option that is now available and much easier to use. It is called Voukoder for Vegas. Install Voukoder and the Vegas connector. Voukoder uses the same render engine as Handbrake. With Voukoder, you can render directly from Vegas without having to do FrameServing. www.voukoder.org/

Thanks Dex for a great tutorial. One question: Will all of this apply to Movie Studio as well as Vegas Pro, as shown in the tutorial? I'm using both Studio Platinum 11 and 15 (by Magix).
@MovieStudioZen6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately this technique will only work with VEGAS Pro, because you need the Script functions in Vegas Pro to make this work. You can't frame-serve video from Movie Studio to Handbrake. Vegas Movie Studio Platinum users need to render a high quality "intermediate/uncompressed" video first and then do a 2nd render with Handbrake. It gets tricky, because uncompressed videos are MASSIVE. I am looking into a solution for this problem and will report back in the next couple of weeks.
@cjay26 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dex for the reply. That would mean rendering to an avi-type result, then importing that to Handbrake to reduce size but maintain quality - usually done with the Quality-Speed controls I imagine.
@MovieStudioZen6 жыл бұрын
I will be uploading another new tutorial that helps out Vegas Movie Studio Platinum users render a high quality intermediate. It requires adding some extra things to Vegas to work.

On my computer, the Volumes folder is empty - if you don't have that folder, just create it. I am using Windows 10. I recommend you read my online article and check everything step by step. I have never tried using Vegas to Handbrake with Vegas Pro 10, so I don't know if that has anything to do with your problems. www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/sony-vegas-pro/590-render-video-from-vegas-pro-to-handbrake

Here's hoping you might be able to help me figure out an issue I'm having. Any help you could possible offer would be greatly appreciated. I was originally going to comment, asking for aid in that I could not get my project to properly forward over to handbrake for actual rendering; Just before doing so, I opted to follow your advice properly and throw a small file/project at it and to my surprise, it actually worked. Now, my problem lies in that while these smaller, few minute clips seemingly export from Vegas 13, through frameserver, to handbrake without issue, throwing the properly large project at it (admittedly, quite large at 5h 30m or so) just leaves it seemingly stuck in a loop. The progress bar fills (admittedly, quite slowly due to size) and eventually disappears leaving the frameserver window open, and the first command prompt window simply cycling through the same if GTR 160000 ( or something thereabout) goto hbstart and the 2 second timeout text below it. I figured perhaps I hadn't waited long enough due to the massive size, so opted to stop and let it keep trying, but after 2 hours (1h45m or so of which being with the progress bar filled and gone) I opted to stop the process. Is this an issue of just too large of a project? One of not enough disk space for the vegas.avi file that gets built (the drive isn't large, but it caps out at ~2.2GB or so with space left on the disk)? I'm just at a loss for what might be going on here. My only real reasoning for this is Vegas 13 and 14's refusal/inability to properly use the RX470 GPU currently in this machine, and the far far far worse render times compared to the antiquated HD6950 that it replaced, going from a roughly 1:1.3-1.5 runtime to render time ratio, to a 1:4+, both using the same MainConcept settings. All of this is on Windows 7, because stubborn reasons.
@MovieStudioZen3 жыл бұрын
1. Windows 7 is probably the No.1 problem. You really should upgrade to Windows 10, which is far better optimized! 2. It sounds like your computer cannot handle the massive size of the project. You need large amounts of RAM (memory) installed for working with LARGE projects. I would recommend an absolute minimum of 16GBs, but 32GBs of RAM would be better. If you only have 8GBs of RAM or less, this is probably part of the problem. 3. The newer versions of Vegas Pro (versions 15 and newer), have a new rendering engine could MAGIX AVC, which is now fully compatible with AMD Radeon and Nvidia graphics cards. If you want better rendering performance, download the free trial for Vegas Pro 18 and test it out. 4. If you don't have enough Hard Drive space, that is also going to be a problem. If the size of the project is causing Vegas to Handbrake to fail, I recommend you try a different approach. Instead of trying to Frameserve, do a 2 step render. Render the project with Vegas Pro first, using AVID DNxHD - this is an uncompressed format - you will need a large amount of Hard Drive space for this. Then import the AVID DHxHD file into Handrake and render a 2nd time. when you are finished, you can delete the Avid file. Read this: www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/sony-vegas-pro/593-render-avid-dnxhd-video-vegas-pro-movie-studio

24:25 Hi, dont know if anyone had this issue before, but this line from start_vegas2handbrake.bat you have to specify the directory where handbrake is installed, if you have it installed on another directory. Line 23 By default is: start "" CALL "C:\Program Files\HandBrake\HandBrake" Change it to: start "" CALL "LOCATION DIRECTORY\HandBrake" always end with \HandBrake at the end, because is the name of the executable For example in my case i installed handbrake on D: Drive so my line is: start "" CALL "D:\HandBrake\HandBrake" Hope it helps

How to Batch Render from Vegas to Handbrake using this trick bro...? BTW, Thanks for this tutorial, its save my time a lot ...

Hey derek, I I stalled everything g close to a year ago and just recently I accidently cancelled a render before handbrake loaded and now when I try and do the process I keep getting a signal saying "unable to locate signpost avi file. Please close any applications that may be using this file and tey again" another box comes up and says "mount status" and its blank. Then another box comes up saying vegas pro has stopped working and gives the option to report it....this has been driving me insane because I'm working on a major film.project and I'm right in the middle of editing it. Any help would be really appreciated.

And the black box with all the coding stays up and keeps loading lines of code but everything else closes down.
@MovieStudioZen5 жыл бұрын
I don't know how to fix this problem, because I have never experienced this problem myself. "Signpost" is directly referring to "the filename for the output file" - the name of your project/video. What I recommend you do is post your problem on the official VEGAS Pro forums. Someone on that forum is bound to know the BEST solution for your problem. www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/vegas-pro-forum/ It may also help to reset Vegas Pro. Hi Derek. Good to see you. I have a question about rendering 60fps footage using Movie Studio Platinum V15. Is it possible to slow the footage down and match frame for frame at 50fps so that the 60fps content is slower but at least gives the correct number of frames for the UK? Not sure whether this is possible on the software although I suspect it is..... Most of the action cams only offer 60fps.
@MovieStudioZen6 жыл бұрын
Which make and model action cam are you using ? GoPro cameras can be switched between PAL and NTSC, so you can record at 25, 50, 100 and 200 fps. Cheap Chinese copies are more limited. Vegas should be able to handle the down conversion automatically for you. Make sure to manually set your Project Properties to 50 fps Progressive. Import 60fps video - but DON'T use Match Media. When you render at 50fps, Vegas should be able to convert OK without major problems. If you want to do proper Slow Motion effects, set Project Properties to 25fps and slow down 60fps to 25fps - you will get very nice and smooth slow motion.

Yi 4K which will be mixed with Sony AX at 50fps. Trouble is that the Yi will be taking racing cars from drone. Movement is my biggest concern and twitches with missing frames. With ‘Don’t match media’, does the programme stretch the video out frame for frame? I find the match media settings and project setting slightly confusing. I’m guessing match media setting sets the project settings to the same as the imported video? Cheers. Ian
