I still remember my ultimate shiny fail. So basically, I was on Route 5 and decided to randomly use the PokeRadar. There was a sparkling patch of grass, right there. I absolutely freaked out. Little did I know that I wasn't using a repel, and ran into a random Pokemon instead. I died inside.

There are so many guides online that think they've got it all figured out. And every time I followed them, my chain would get broken even though I felt I was doing everything right. So I thought: You know what? How about I go find someone with some actual credit behind their claims? Someone who walks the walk so I can hear them talk the talk. And not just armchair programmers thinking they know the system inside out. And then I found you. I see your VOD's. You simply start a stream, go from 0 chain to 40 chain without breaking over a couple hours, and then catch the shiny. Simple as that. And you're right. Well, that explains a few things I did wrong. xD Knew about most of it but didn't know about the two patches right next to each other thing, nor about going to patches 3-4 tiles away. I knew the fast music did something cool but I didn't think it boosted the odds to 1/200 for as long as the music was round. I do believe I finally have motivation to keep learning pokeradar. XP To the radar with me! Thanks for posting this vid, it was very helpful!

I relate, I was in the same patch that smk was in for the video and I was going to run to rechange the radar and I was being really careful but it missed that one patch and ran straight into it, I was pissed too because I was at a pretty high level chain too!

The edge pieces and distance dont matter just look for one space of grass to shake harder or bigger than the others and make sure there is only one that shakes the biggest. Go for that and its super efficient.

The only issue I have is trying to chain a shiny Zoroark because when i start to chain, everything BUT Zoroark appear! its so annoying because Ill run into one before i use the pokeradar, but then as soon as i spray a repel and use the radar, its either Ditto's, Gothoritas, or Amoongus

God, I wish someone would pick apart the data for the mechanics of X/Y's radar like they did for gen 4's. Chaining in those games got so much easier after it turned out that most of the rules were superstitious bullshit all along, but I wouldn't put it past gen 6 to actually have weird formation rules and etc. just to complicate things :( I guess it's a feature most people don't really care about since the DexNav is so much less frustrating lol. By the way, it's still 1/200 *per patch* at max odds, yeah? So effectively 2.5% if five are shaking?

Just started playing X and Y and the Radar is a little trickier because of the grass shakes that try to confuse you! And there’s a false sense of security where it’s a good grass but it isn’t! RNG can mess you up but once you reach the golden number 40, it’s all smooth sailing! Never give up!

I was failing so many times.. I know this is old but I was reseting so many times, failing so many times, that when I come back to do it again and I forget about my repels shinier just happens out of no where, I was shiny hunting bunnelby for example failed it 5 times when I was getting close to 40 then just out of nowhere a wild shiny bunnelby shows up and I haven't even started doing the radar.. this other one happened again with another pokemon, I forgot since I lost my game data.. I did the same failed then came back to redo and a shiny appeared.. it is if I failed yet the game wants to reward me for trying. Which I am greatful.. sadly the game data is gone due to corruption in my SD card..

No. Friend safari is set at I believe 1/512 for every encounter. Running away is fine. I've captured a shiny charmeleon, and a shiny dragonair just messing around running away and encountering more.

Are you walking/running? You can't use it if you're on skates or if you're holding any other key items like the dowsing machine. It works in both tall and short grass. Just make sure you're using the up/down/left/right pad instead of the analog stick

I am trying to learn 4th gen radar and it is a major pain =.=' Having to keep track of the same type of patch is so much harder than just finding the hardest shaking one. The main thing that I was following was staying in the same type of grass which was working as long as l could keep finding that grass type (I was also looking over more recent streams of others who do 4th gen radaring hoping to get ideas of how to figure it all out)

Well, if you haven't seen this already, it's basically the only 100% correct guide out there: www.smogon.com/ingame/guides/dpp_pokeradar I've gotten a ton of successful chains this week (and unlike chaining in X/Y, your shiny odds don't reset once you find a shiny - I got like six shiny Nidoran patches in the span of about 20 minutes lol). XY chaining really seems to be its own separate beast, though. Doesn't seem to be as much consistency to it and I have a hard time telling which grass patches are good. :/

Frez Person ah, thank you for sharing the guide with me. One similarity I did see between gen 4 and 6 chaining was the best place to look for a new patch is 4 squares away and to keep away from the edges (aside from keeping a repel activated). I will have to try again at some other time though ^-^
