Lately I’ve been thinking of buying cryptocurrency for retirement, I’ve set asides $350k to invest but along the line,I usually get cold feet, maybe because I have no idea what I’m doing, please I could really use some guidelines.

I’m retired, and in my retirement I’ve gained a 2:1 Honours Degree and have become an author with books published. It took simply years to turn my belief in myself from “I’m rubbish” to “I’m not rubbish” and this podcast helped me understand why and how I was able to make a belief in myself change to the positive. Thank you.

Got my NHS consultant job yesterday (after 18 years from starting medical school to this point) and thought I'd listen to this for some tips on how to find fulfillment at work. What I got though was a pragmatic round up as to why the NHS is floundering in terms of staff retention and has one of the highest attrition rates. I pledge to use whatever authority I will posses as a consultant to change this having been inspired by this episode of the pod 🙏

Touching on the comment Steven made about an employee turning down a promotion. I did exactly the same thing 15 years ago working for a large UK retailer. Had worked for them for 7 years and had been spoken highly of throughout the management. Had an email from my regional manager inviting me to an meeting about taking over the store manager role at the store I was working in as a consultant. I called the regional manager up declining the job offer as I didn't feel ready for the job and that I was comfortable with where my career was at. They held so much respect for me after that and would always ask for my opinion on new procedures and policies. Few years later I did take the promotion and ended up creating a successful team and store. Not a moment regretted!

I've just shared this podcast with my executive team - we are struggling with engagement and integrating teams - the section on the fact that every company has multiple cultures is bang on the money! I'd never looked at it like this before, as we are always trying to make a 'one size fits all' culture which everyone should align with and sign up to, when in reality it doesn't work like that. Thank you so much for your candour and for sharing!

I'm not sure my company is big and we have like 1 big culture caretakers to the office to letters etc etc as we all meet every month have separate teams meet up for huddles training..partys ..every other month a motivational speaker comes in everyone from the bottom up is welcome on all training even if its not relevant in their job role...u can go up in the company if u dont do so well in that position u go bk to your previous position... bonuses..health perks...wellbeing allowance which is free but can be topped up to make it huge even tho the free version is £30per month which covers alot already... mental health champions aka mentors within the company and all positions the list just goes on.. if u can think of a new job role theres a chance it may come possible etc etc etc..saying that we are the only company in the country to win the IPp award and twice if I remember right

Going to listen to this one a second time! What he said early on about focusing on what you enjoy, instead of what you're naturally good at, hit me hard. I hadn't heard that before, and it got me thinking A LOT. I was never talented musically when I was young, but when I got a guitar as a teenager, I had so much fun with it that I would play all day and all night and eventually became skilled. 20 years later I now sing and write songs as well. I was a scrawny kid who sucked at sports, but when I started lifting weights at 25, I enjoyed it so much that it wasn't long before I was deadlifting 445 and could run for hours. In school I had a talent for writing, but I hated it. What was fun for me was math. Going to get on Khan Academy today, start doing math for fun every day, and see where that takes me.

Thanks again, really enjoyed this. I left a long time role to enjoy a year off in 2019, where anything seemed possible, rediscover my creative side, have some fun, Covid came - world shut down and options, ideas and the world of possibilities seem to shrink, it also messed with my head for a myriad of reasons. 2022 still not really settled again work wise, questioning why I ever left a secure job, but this has really helped me to think about the red threads and to try and remember what they were in my old role and how I can find them again with any new role......

I did the Clifton’s Strength Report three years ago and was surprised to learn that ‘achievement’ is a strength. Bring my number one strength shed a light in part of my characteristics that in the past have been described as ‘full on’ or ‘over achieving’. As a CEO and founder I now use this to energize. Each day I make a note of the small wins as well as the big ones to remind my small team and I that we are making strides even it may not seem like it. Thank you again Steven for another insightful conversation and another great book recommendation. Ludwina from Australia xxx

Thank you for this guest, he knows my world. I had a 'feedback' boss and the things he gave us feedback about were the same things he needed to work on. He demanded certain behaviors but he couldn't role model those behaviors himself. A hypocrite. We loved our jobs and the purpose of our work, but he killed it with his arrogance. He needs to watch this video although he was so arrogant he probably thinks he doesn't need to. On the positive side, he taught me how NOT to manage. I love what our guest today is saying and that's the kind of supervisor I want to be. To bring out the best in people.

Jan 2023 I left the business, started a new career. This is good, but I think he missed an important point. He talks about finding what you love doing and then trying to align yourself to do more of that in your job and then listing the things you dislike. This makes sense but it’s not that black and white. sometimes you have to look at the bits you don’t enjoy and ask why? Is it that you don’t understand them so you avoid them? What if you put in some study hours to those areas and then learned that you understand and enjoy it now? I wouldn’t be quick to list all the bad bits and use this to move or quit. I for example, used to hate programming in my role, but then realised it’s because I didn’t understand enough about it. Rather than lost it as a hate - I questioned why i dreaded it so much and then worked on it for 6 months. I grew to enjoy it and makes up a good part of my job.

Cause this Culture is a 80yo human experiment that began after WWII to prevent another Post war Economic Collapse like the depression Post WWI. And while the rationale behind it was logical given the human devastation that occurred during the depression The reality is we were never designed to live this way or work this way. And the result has been trauma and psychological disorders and physiological diseases and a complete breakdown of the humanity that we have evolved inside of for millions of years. And nobody really wants to look at the system that's creating the circumstances and producing these results in humanity not in production. Government and industry tends to only look at the economic output and it looks really great on the books. But the price that the individual human pays inside of creating that output is beyond any economic devastation that it was intended to prevent.
