You said that there was no rubber cement in the repair kit but the rubber strips were sticky. Kits I have use have had dry rubber strips in but came with the rubber cement so I suspect the stickyness was supposed to be enough but using the extra cement was worth while. I've used such a kit to fix the back tyre on a Harley Davidson which I then rode all over Europe until the tyre needed changing. They really do work!!!

I never thought about carrying an air cpmpressor. It makes a lot of sense!!!! I have to plug another tire and found my old plug tools and a couple of sticky strips. Except they aren't that sticky. So now i have to buy the whole kit all over again!!!! Also good tip on the rubber cement! Thx so much!

Mark location of penetration with a white crayon. You did the repair on a front wheel which can be turned, in daylight in good weather. Flats happen on the traffic side of the vehicle, in the dark rear tire and its cold and raining or sleet. Also on my trailer tire, I used 2 plugs in a shoulder area to get me home then had a tube put in after the hole was patched properly. Thumbs up

I got a Milwaukee M12 1/2" impact and an adapter that fits on my scissor jack. Lifts the car real quick. Lighter than a floor jack.

you can also heat the plug with some fire..... it helps

some tyre shops (Bridgestone, Bondi Junction) uses this plug system and charges $30. Tyrepower in Rockdale was the best in doing it correctly. I am happy to see Bridgestone, Bondi Junction is now closed down. One question, when taking out the screw with full air in tyye, is there no chances of tyre bursting due to high pressure inside.

I lost count of how many tires that I had screws in in the UK and every time the tire firm said I needed a new pair of tires at £100 each. Very rare to have a tire get to the tread wear indicator over there. Very different story in Japan where my tires now last for years. And my car does not have a spare tire.

Good video, but the rubber cement is not necessary. Those plugs are self vulcanizing and do not require adding rubber cement. Kits that include rubber cement will include patches as well; and the rubber cement and patches are needed for bicycle tire repairs only. Some people claim that plugs are not safe, but I've been using those plugs for over 30 years and have never had one fail.
@warrenpacholzuk91906 жыл бұрын
Well dude, I am telling you they are not safe. Been in the tire industry for 30 years. 20 as a licensed tire tech.
@jamiemccort83886 жыл бұрын
They are for temporary repairs to get you to the nearest tyre repair centre. I live in Scotland and the recovery company's like AA and RAC use them for cars that don't come with spare tyres, to get them to the nearest tyre centre. But they are not classed as safe to use long term. (here in Scotland anyway).

Very good, if you have all the repair kit in your car trunk. Most people will keep driving or call Triple AAA to tow to nearest gas station to buy tires. Good thought but unreal in real life situation

I have to make a note that oftentimes you can't get the lug nuts off especially in winter with that lousy four way wrench. you're better off investing in a bolt the size of your particular lugs ( 17-19 mm 3/4.etc.) and 18" pivoting extension .
@blackozzysabbath465 жыл бұрын
Better yet...you can get a spark plug socket...I have found it to be better... I have tried deep well sockets and they always get stuck on the lugnut...also a breaker bar

Mate you'll never put spare tyre with ATK speed limit on the front of a car. You should always put on the back and then put the back on on the front. In my kit I bought many years ago it said to put the glue on the Rhema when you rhemaing out the hole. Cheers Graham.

Shouldn't the tire be emptied before removing the valve as it could just fly into you ?
@samali1086 жыл бұрын
Yes, the air should be taken out or have something in front of the valve so the stem does not fly out from the air pressure.
@brianvandorp255 жыл бұрын
Hahaha, Really! It's 35 PSI! I could probably almost blow that hard
@jackmartin90085 жыл бұрын
did you not just watch him, do it the valve just flopped out with nil pressure at all an an inflated tire so clearly its not necessary.

In the USA, Plug or patch only repairs have long been considered unsafe. The only safe method requires removing the tire from the vehicle and repairing it from inside. For an extensive article on lawsuits & the correct repair method: @t or for a lawsuit about a patch only settlement: @t If you're not concerned about yours or your family's safety, use this video. When you're injured, add KZbin & Junky DIY guy to your lawsuit.

It's not super dangerous to fix like that on the edges of the tread. Worst that can happen is slow failure of the tire. It won't explode randomly.
@jjenson20066 жыл бұрын
That really depends on what the hole looks like and exactly where in the sidewall it is. The tire flexes a lot on the sidewall as it's going down the road which could cause the hole to tear and blow out on you. The rubber on the side is thin and does not have support such as steel belts or heavy thread
@billfrete84873 жыл бұрын
Agreed, I have plugged over 20 times around the edge and never had an issue 5yrs later the plug was still holding. (I also dont drive 160km on them either, 60mph is max where i live.)
@keepingdistance44045 жыл бұрын
No!! This is not an RMA (Rubber Manufacturers Association) approved method for a tire repair. These are NOT meant for automotive Radial construction tires, but rather for Bias ply construction such as ATVs and riding mower tires. These are fabric and will draw moisture into the steel belts causing rust and corrosion which will lead to a steel belt separation. Temporary emergency solution at best. A proper repair is done from the inside of the tire. Get to a tire shop that follows guidelines for your safety!
