Great video. Simple, straight forward and easy to follow! I was able to buy the agitator dogs online and fix this within a few days. Glad the Kenmore washers were designed for easy repair, that is some very good longterm thinking. This unit I have is 15+ years old and still going strong.

THANK YOU for this video. We were afraid we'd need an expensive visit from a repairman, or even a new washer, but with your clear explanation we ordered the agit dogs and fixed our machine in five minutes once they arrived. We didn't have a square ratchet in the right size, but a file fit in that hole diagonally and worked just fine. It was also nice to get the mildew cleaned out of the innards of our agitator -- who knew? Thanks again.

I was a little confused a first because my fabric softener cap is slightly different, but I popped it off and proceeded with your directions. I cleaned all of the components, removed the screw and replaced the dogs. This took less than 5 minutes and now my machine is working great. This saved me a $175.00 service call. Thanks

Great Video !!!! I have a 17 year old Kenmore. It does not have the square hole that yours does , where you put the end of your extension into. It has a bolt and then you need to take off the top half of the agitator to get to the dogs. Yours looked a lot easier to fix , you did it with a load of clothes in the tub. This will be the first time in 17 years that I have to replace the agit dogs. The motor coupler I had to replace about 4 times. Under $10 for a 2 pack on Ebay. ( 20 minute job ).

Worked exactly as described! I had to wait a week for the dogs to arrive, then made the replacement in all of ten minutes. Only differences between my machine and the one in the video were 1.) the cap on top of my agitator had no "locking ring," it's bayonet-mount. So I removed it by rotating it slightlyclockwise, then lifting it off 2.) the inner works on mine were held in place place by a 7/16ths hex nut. But it was just as easy to remove with my socket set and an extender. Thanks, FogoFox!

Great job! Good detail. My model 110 was slightly different. After removing the fabric softener dispenser, there was a cover that I had to pop off with a screwdriver to reveal the screw underneath. I removed the screw holding the agitator in, but did not have the square hole that needed the 1/2" drive to unscrew. I simply removed the screw (needed a magnet to get it out of the recessed area it was in) and pulled the entire agitator assembly out of the machine and then pulled the top part that looks like a large "screw" from the bottom part that has the 4 big fins. Pretty self explanatory, but needed to pay a little closer attention!

At 2:25 where you say "the agitator piece will just lift right out"... well mine won't come out at all. I've tried grabbing it with pliers and pulling... trying to pry it up with a flat screw driver... wiggling it back and forth to get it un-stuck (if in fact it's stuck), etc. Just will not budge. I took the whole column out of the tub to have a better look and can't see anything holding it in from below. This is a slightly older machine. I changed these parts about ten years ago but do not remember having this sort of trouble with it. What could be wrong?

Great job.. my Kenmore 110 has a center locking nut(7/16), in the agitator. If it feels like it is free spinning, then just hold the bottom of the agitator, and give a little twist of the ratchet, and bam. The job is simple, and pretty idiot proof.

meldaniiiii If your fabric softener dispenser isn't on, gently pry off the cap. I used a thin bladed knife. You can mount the dispenser or replace the dogs from that point on.

If you are in a hurry, or it's Sunday and you cannot get the parts, then remove the dogs and insert them upside down. That will get your washer agitator working again until you can order the parts.

I had the same problem. Your post is really old, but I figured someone else may have the same issue. The center screw was too tight. I placed a screwdriver in one of the four pockets on the top of the centerpiece to get the counter pressure needed to loosen the center screw. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the great vid FogoFox! I learned the hard way that if one or more of the dogs are installed the wrong way the agitator will make a pretty loud ratcheting noise in operation.
