I have the standard HD 1080p plan, have the settings set to High, have extremely fast internet, and a fantastic monitor and Netflix plays like I'm watching movies on a flip phone. Only Netflix does this. All my other streaming services are fine.

I was amazed how bad the 4k resolution looks at Netflix, especially the very dark colors look very blurry, not even near Blu-ray. They use a really low quality compressing codec to save bandwidth at 4k.

I have tried this and still the resolution looks too grainy and it’s driving me nuts. I don’t have this issue with Disney+ and discovery+, so I know my device is perfectly capable of streaming in a high resolution. It bothers me that I pay the most money for the streaming service that delivers the worst quality. Does anyone have suggestions for alternative ways of fixing this?

Have the same problem. I am in an expensive Dutch hotel with fast internet, but my 4k Netflix looks really bad, like DIVX-format 20 years ago. This is fake 4k for people, who don't know better and pay for it.

@@luxembourger well the resolution is 4k but compressed. high quality 1080p might have a higher bitrate as the compressed 4k stream of netflix plus the bitrate of netflix is diminished by 25 percent because of corona (that is their excuse).

There are HDMI settings for that, if you choose the wrong standard, it is dark, just toggle setting, you will find out.

@@comicdune667 I don't know the Sony, but my 4k Samsung has not the highest setting, and it never has. Noticed this when I used my PC instead on the same TV and network cable. Much better quality. Still darks blurry, but it was real 4k. Tested it several times.

No, you have to do on every device. Most smart-tv software, or even all I saw, can't do this. You have to attach a pc if you want a decent 4k experience.

I have a 4KTV, 200+mbps broadband and the UltraHD Netflix plan and display settings set to high. I was watching Witcher season 2 and for initial 10minutes it displayed in 2160p/4K resolution. However I paused the show and went to make some snacks. Came back and it was turned downed to 1080p. Never turned back up again to 4K. Why can't users have control over this? This is epic level bullshit. Canceled Subscription in 3days. Prime/Hotstar/Torrent/KZbin are your friends. Netflix can suck it!
