no problem man, was so relieved when this worked for me, glad it helped you

the smoke comes from the WD-40 it's oil and you put some serious amount of Amperes in there ;) usually first thing I do is clean it under water and turn it by hand. after that I put a lot amount of brake cleaner in it, so that every little drop of water gets out of the motor. afterwards i put a litte WD-40 in it and let it dry over night that worked everytime

Hi, I have a latrax Teton and I would like to drive it in the forest but the times that I tried it my motor would die (I killed like 4 motors) is there a way to seal the motor so nothing can get in? It’s a brushed motor. And will it overheat because the motor temps are already hot I can not touch it but that has always been that way Btw I will try this trick because currently my motor is dead
@RickysGarageVibes4 жыл бұрын
Change to a brushless motor, they’re sealed ... it’ll save headaches. Try HobbyWing Axe ... if the brushes aren’t done you can try the fix

I have a normal working motor. I just want to clean it... I sprayed wd40 in the motor. It smoked when throttling and it became slow. What should I do? I think its damaged bcoz of the spray?
@RickysGarageVibes2 жыл бұрын
Seems brushes were already low if it’s slow. Brush motors don’t usually last long, try brushless they last much longer. I like the HobbyWing QuicRun Fusion motors. Next time - spray WD40 to clean the debris off the brushes, spin it with your hand, don’t power up & throttle it, spray it down with water after to clean off excess WD40 and it won’t smoke

@@RickysGarageVibes thank you. Before wd40 its normal and pretty fast. I just want to clean it. After wd40, its slow & smoked. Should I wash it with water now?
@RickysGarageVibes2 жыл бұрын
Yeah absolutely try washing it down. The brushes are low, that’s why it’s slow, wash or not wash, WD40 or not, water or oil can’t shorter or lengthen brushes, brushed motors are notorious for getting low quickly … happened to me too many times to count. Good luck brother

would it work if the motor overtrax or burns out ? please answer, fast.
@RickysGarageVibes4 жыл бұрын
Anonymný kraken if the brushes are too low that’s the end of the motor, but if it’s the first or second time the motor stops WD40 will work. After every hard or dirt or water run use WD40 to clean the brushes to get out any grime to make the brushes last longer. Now that this has happened make plans for a new motor and think about going brushless
@RickysGarageVibes4 жыл бұрын
Take the motor out the first time it stops to clean and spray it really well. After that for maintenance you can spray the WD40 on the motor while still in the truck and turn the wheels. Take it easy running it right after you use WD40 for the motors sake
@RickysGarageVibes4 жыл бұрын
Best of luck man🤝

Dude u gotta flush out the wd-40 after lol, of course it's smoking, u got oil between the brushes and comm! The smoke was the amperage burning off the oil, but now you burnt a residue onto the brushes and comm so she won't last as long if u flushed it with contact cleaner and blow dried it with compressed air. But bro that's sad even a hobby town chain store can't stay open. I got 1 hobby shop left in my area, and I think the only reason it's open is cause the owner is well off and just keeps it open for the community as it's been there for decades.

I drive mine in crazy rain, mudding, slinging rooster tails 20'& even thru water deep enough to fully submerge it a few times by accident. I'm an Electrical engineer & yes if waterproofed correctly you can play in the rain. Waterproof brushed motors like what came in my Redcat Blackout SC are meant to endure moisture but not full on water. I had a Hobbywing 10BL60 WP 60A brushless ESC & brushless motor I put in it. Unplug ESC fan it's not waterproof. All brushless motors are waterproof. There is nothing making contact inside & they're sealed. You'll know if water has gotten in it. It will be sluggish & lost power. By morning it will run new. BUT IF YOU PLAN TO FOLLOW WHAT I DO I WILL TELL YOU IT REQUIRES A LOT OF CLEANING AFTERWARDS & MAINTENANCE or you will be buying parts constantly. It requires quality SEALED bearings. I use Fast Eddies ceramics. Yes sounds expensive paying $80. Cheap steel bearings will rust & then fall apart causing more damage. They will have a catastrophic failure & either seize up or your wheel will fly off damaging or loosing axles & dog bones. So everytime I spend a day running in water & mud I completely take apart the car & gear boxes & clean it. Then use a good PETROLEUM based bearing oil on all bearings including & especially on the motor & I use hi-temp automotive bearing grease in my diffs. DON'T USE SILICONE SHOCK OIL! IT IS NOT A LUBRICANT! IT'S DESIGNED TO WORK AS A HYDRAULIC FLUID! It feels like oil but 3 days later nothing is there & you will be running unlubricated bearings which will get hot & fail. DO NOT USE WD40 TYPE PRODUCTS ON BEARINGS. IT WILL DESTROY THEM! But use wd40 on ball ends & A-arm pins & any other metal to inhibit rust. It's gonna happen but this will significantly extend the life of the parts. After putting your car back together cover the diff bearing with a rag & w/the red straw that came with the wd40 LIGHTLY spray diff seams to repel moisture. Only use quality waterproof electronics & my waterproof reciever is inside a waterproof reciever box I got off Amazon for less than $10, PUT DIELECTRIC GREASE ON ALL PLUGS or the high amperage combined with the moisture will cause the aluminium inside the battery connector plug to completely oxidize turning a light grey matte finish & loss all conductivity. Unless u have a solder station & soldering experience w/14 gauge wire you're buying new battery packs. Soldering that large of wire to new connectors is not that easy. if you make the mistake of cutting both wires & arc a 3s 6000mAh battery its gonna short out & if it just catches fire you'll have a bad day. Good possibility it could explode on fire & you'll have a really bad day. Be careful w/lithium. If it catches fire don't throw water on it. Lithium spontaneously combusts when water touches it. Even high humidity. So that's another thing to protect before playing in the rain. Only buy high quality hard plastic encased lipos & mist them with wd40, wipe clean. Cheap blue shrink wrapped lipos off that are on the web for sale I wouldn't run in water. Lastly, get some gorilla tape & make inner fender splash guards just like your full size car has to keep water off its engine & I used it to make a debris shield come up from the chassis which makes clean up 100x easier. I was always told if I think I cant do it that's my fault. You gotta be smarter than what you're working with. It's a technical hobby but not near as technical as people think. Learn your car, have spare parts on hand & start googling & KZbin vids to learn everything. If you smoke a ESC don't just throw it away. Learn to use a multimeter & soldering iron. Guarantee it's just a capacitor. If any are swollen, split or smell fishy there it is. That goes for TV's & all electronics. Before you just toss them, open them up & check for blown capacitors. 99% of the time that's all that's wrong & they're cheap. Penny's. Any electric motor can be fixed. Cheap chinese junk isn't worth the trouble but even a $20 motor off ebay is cheaper to fix than replace. Plus once you figure it out its actually all pretty simple & your neighbors & buddy's will think you're a genius while you try not to laugh. Have fun! Drive fast, dont be scared to break something. It's gonna happen, at first your gonna feel like it's a money pit but learn from each mistake & you'll find the right setup for you & with experience from mistakes you'll find yourself not needing to buy parts much. Do your maintenance
