How To Fix Astro A50 Audio Problems (And Other Headsets Too)

If you’re experiencing sound/audio problems with your Astro A50 headset then this video will help you narrow down (and possibly fix) what is causing it.
I recently fixed a strange static sound issue with my A50s and wanted to share how I went about it. I read loads of articles and watched plenty of KZbin videos, and while some did provide a couple of things to try, there was nothing that grouped all of the information in one place. So that's what I’ve done. I've provided everything I tried and have broken it down into simple steps for you to follow.
I can’t guarantee that any of these suggestions will fix your problem, but at the very least they should help you figure out if your headset is faulty, or if the problem is being caused by your setup.

Thanks, the reset worked for me 3:28, since for some strange reason the helmets reversed the power button when going down it turned on it was strange, another thing it seemed that they were unpaired because when removing them from the base they did not turn on.

Thank you for your assist! I actually have 2 headsets and 2 bases because i've had probs with these headsets since 1 month into owning them. My biggest issue is the firmware update most recently i could get 1 of the headsets to update but not the other the prob was the 1 i could update had horrble static issues your hard reset fixed it thank God as i've gone 2 days without headphones and i am a f/t charity twitch streamer no bueno again ty now if i could only get the other headset to update firmware i would be happy to have a back up so this doesnt happen again

Thanks for the video. For me my issue was my general channel for audio wasn't working but my voice channel was working. The fix was removing my USB cable to my Astro base station from a USB Hub Device I had connected to my PC and just rerouting it directly to my pc. Hope this helps anyone else.

@@AchillesGlorys If you can only hear the ticking noise sometimes, I’d say it’s likely there’s something else in your setup causing interface. Follow the steps in this video around identifying other devices that could be introducing interference.

Hard reset worked - i had nothing but bad crackling and static noise so could hear your video so visual copied - but it did work the worked out dolby setting was causing the issue so turned off rewatched your video and didnt realise you had to disconnect the base station then hard reset - so all in all it works like new now thank you!!

Not sure if anyone has solved this issue or not, but has anyone been able to figure out the AUX issue? I know the issue I'm at least having seems to be solely located in the base station and some say it might be a grounding issue. Tried multiple auxiliary cables and multiple audio devices, but the issue seems to be located in the base station. I did see someone say to get a AUX ground loop noise canceller, but wasn't sure if that has worked for others.

No. Not having an optical cable limits your ability to split the chat and game audio but should not introduce interference.

I was getting some interference on my A50’s. Sounded like putting your cellphone next to a speaker then hearing that interference from the radio signals. So, I noticed it was happening around 10-15 minutes on point! It turns out my phone has push notifications. Emails, apps, etc. So, when my phone was requesting info from my wifi it got picked up on my Astor A50’s. What I did to fix it was place my iPhone in Battery Save mode. Which stops those background app refreshes mentioned previously. After doing that the interference issue went away ASAP lol. That was my fix. No need to bother with wifi channels or anything.

Shut my wifi off and the crackling went away so I went in and changed the channel as you suggested and it seems to be fixed but the weird part is I have had the headset for about a week now and my wifi channel was already set to a channel below the A50 range so why the interference all of a sudden? Don't plug it into your TV. Unless your TV has audio sync settings there's no way to fix that. Your best bet is to run to audio directly from the source.

Make sure you’re running the current firmware. Power-cycle it. Plug it all back in and re-try. If it’s still working try it with another device e.g. PC/Mac

So I’m issue is the voice/game buttons seem to be synced as one. When I turn the voice button all the way up.. there’s is 0 sound. Saturday 3 September 2021 the Astro Command Center notified me that there was an update, after the update there was a problem with my phone, every time it goes into stanby or is turned off when I return the microphone was muted or echoed (I hear my own voice) I have to keep moving there in the command center and synchronizing the device. Does the Astro a50 Xbox version work on the ps5? I have tried everything but my ps5 simply will not let me use the EQ, everyone in the party echoes and my ps5 output isn’t registering to headphones only hdmi (tv) is there a fix for this?

I don't think you can use the xbox with playstation or visa versa and get full functionality. My understanding is that both platforms require different configurations for chat and other settings which is why the two models need to exist.

so I have a weird on for you. Recently got a new PC and updated everything with the PC and installed all of the Astro stuff for the headset. when i plug in my headset it makes my videos render continuously, and once i unplug the headset, the videos work fine again. there is also a red light that is just there now 100% or dead, its still there. nothing and i mean nothing works. hard reset, optical cables, nothing. it just wont work on my PC.. but i plug it in to my other, and it works fine with no issues..

Could be sound leakage that the mic is picking up. Try playing with the sidetone setting in the software.

@@goukigod unfortunately that wasnt the issue. played with the sidetone and put it at mute, but people can even still hear your video playing in the background. like if i have it next to my mic.....even when the sidetone is muted. ive never had this happen. weird.

I've never had so many problems with a headset. I've been in an ongoing battle with my astro a50s for 4 years. The biggest issue i had was that it wouldn't charge on the dock or with the cable directly. Also had the crackling static sound. Turned out they needed a firmware update. Now after updating the firmware, Im getting chat sound but no game sound. Seems like every issue i have with these guys is a deeper variation of problems others have had. There seems to be no answer. I've tried using different ports, resetting/repairing them over and over. Plugging them back into my computer and took off enhancments. making sure that the audio output on the xbox is astro a50s.

hey mate, ive got a astro A50 gen 4 for pc/ps. ive also got the xbox dock so i can have one headset & both docks for PC & Xbox. since the start of having them ive had so many wierd issues 1.audio being swapped (left/right) 2. audio starts to go slowly quiet or slowly loud. 3.audio completely turns off & need to reset dock & headset. please let me know if you know any good fixes for these issues please

Now that's what I call an edge case! It could be caused by both docks fighting each other for control. I'd start by using only one dock at a time. ie have only one dock plugged in at a time and have the other one totally unplugged. Try both docks this way. This might narrow down if there's a fault with either of the docks or if the problems are caused by the twin dock setup.

Is anybody else going through the situation where you tried resetting your headset and it doesn’t make the beaming sound when you turn it on (in ear) and it is not responsive right away? And when I try to put it on my base station it will have that orange light on so that it’s charging but the white blinking lights on the base station keep moving around they don’t settle to one blinking to know that it’s charging… please help Ps. Im on PS5 btw and my base station has been connected via usb to micro usb. It hasn’t had any issues till today. I’ve had it for 3 years or so

If I put my settings on headset and speakers for Xbox, my headset mutes when maxing voice chat, and maxing game chat makes me hear both of those at mid volume. I need headset and speakers enabled tho for my capture card, is there anything I can do fix this without having to put headset only? On Xbox btw

Capturing audio through a capture card is tricky. Elgato’s Chat Link cable is one possible solution.

i have white noise, high pitch sound in the backround tha gives me headache. i didnt have that the first 2 weeks, and now it wont go away, tried everything

I have been with these headphones for 8 months and they emit a white noise of static, I also noticed that the audio decreases a lot. I was really excited about this expensive headphone but I was very disappointed and now I use it as a decoration... I tried to fix it but I don't know where the interference is from, I'm really sad. I should have bought better headphones.
