While this does seem like good advice, it isn't because he doesn't tell you what you should do after flushing it out with WD-40. Regular WD-40 is not a lubricant despite appearing like one when it's first applied. WD-40 is meant for displacing water and flushing debris/dust out of things. It isn't meant to stay in as a lubricant for something spinning at such high RPMs as a fan. Flushing with WD-40 also flushes out most of the machine-grade oil applied at the factory. WD-40 by itself will, rather quickly in comparison to oil, take on a more resin-like consistency, which will have that rattle coming back with the added benefit of putting more stress on your fans by making them work harder to spin. You're supposed to follow up a WD-40 flushing with actual machine-grade oil based on your needs. For PC fans, just a light machine-grade oil is enough to keep them spinning for years. Well, outside of any needs to flush them out again. There are also WD-40 brand lubricants that you can buy that are different from just regular WD-40.

Had 2 out of 3 Diablotek cheapie POS fans making noise in my Powerspec G433. I was ready to replace the fans but decided to watch your video and then I gave it at try. 45 minutes later my PC is running quiet as brand new. I'll eventually replace them with better fans as well as the SoHoo GameMax controller card, but for now this really helps. Thank You so much for the video.

Sometimes the fan has just dislocated, if so carefully pull the fan out. Other issues, inspect fan for cracks. Also cheap fans can have ball bearings, those eventually will make noise. You have magnetic bearing, they will be quiet usually until they misalign. But maybe lubing those helps, but impossible to tell if you lubing it or you you moving the fans fixed it. Just flipping the fans upside down might fix it. But maybe lube will reduce noise anyway.

One of them I keep in the kitchen because I use it when the dishwasher is done...I clip it to the counter upside down to blow in the dishwasher to dry the dishes because it works much better than the dry cycle....My question is... when it's in the upside down position, that's when it rattles...if it's upright, it doesn't.... It's whisper quiet if it's upright... is that normal for it to be noisy orientated that way? thanks

I had a rattle in my fans, I turned the off one by one, but it wouldn't stop. I finally figured out that I need the outflow fans (only two) to be at a higher RPM that the intake fans (there are three). Once I slightly increased the RPMs the noise stopped.
@KNTech
@KNTech 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you got it sorted, The usual way to set fan speeds (assuming you have the same number of intake as exhaust/outflow) is to have the intake slightly higher RPM than the exhaust, that way you has a slight positive pressure in the case which makes it harder for dust to get in when it running.

Hi there, looks like you are running a Ryzen CPU. I haven't tried this fix on CPU fans. in your case you should be able to get a wraith cooler online fairly cheaply. @KNTech
@KNTech 3 жыл бұрын
@@YoYoDancesOnYou Obviously if its rattling then something isn't fitting correctly, but i would let the temps of your CPU tell you what you need to know. If it starts running hot then you should change the cooler. Maybe run a benchmark, something like Cinebench every 6 months and monitor the temps, if they don't go up significantly then you should be ok. But as always, just keep an eye on anything odd

@KNTech
@KNTech 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Zan, very unlikely, the short screws screw into the plastic of the fan frame making a tight grip to the case. i guess its possible, but only slightly, that you may have stripped the thread in the fan frame. if you are getting vibration it is most likely to be a part of the case that does not fit correctly or maybe even some cables that are not tied down. A good starting point would be to take off all the panels on your case first and see if that fixes it, if that doesnt then try unplugging each of you fans one by one. if one of them stops it, take that fan out and run it out of the case. Good luck

@@KNTech I didn't have all purpose oil so I used chainsaw oil (lmao) and it was molded like yours in the video. I turned it on and it was rattling for a little bit and settled down and has been quiet since. So def. worked!!! I did order a couple Noctura fans but this was a quick fixed and I'm super pumped I found this video ty. Also I know nothing about building Pcs, it was my first time taking it apart besides quick dusting.

@@KNTech oh ok gotcha, i was going to do this to my fans. They are nice fans anyway i got cool master 120s the quiet ones, and some be quiets. All designed to be quiet fans... I went into my bios and raised my fan speed from standard speed to full speed and the rattle went away. They are super quiet now. And i got lower temps too. I think my specific fans were engineered to run higher rpms.

Some fans are just not so stable at low revs, with mine it was med to high it started, sounded like it was gonna shake out the frame. Try testing your fans by changing the fan speed in bios to fixed, then try different speeds to see if makes a difference. If not, try my fix, you can always replace a single fan quite cheaply, or move them around to accommodate losing one. Good luck
