For AMD GPUs this does not apply. AMD cards will not get detected if any of the caps on the PCIE are knocked off when connected on X16 PCIE but will work on pcie riser as PCIE riser is X1 to X16 connector. But will not get detected at all if the caps on the first pair are knocked off.

Thanks for this helpful video friend! However I think I may need to clarify my problem a little more. My GPU is working with all Lanes (x16) as it works on my other computer. I suspect the problem is either with the Primary PCIEX16 (Top Slot) or it is an LGA Socket Problem, specifically a broken BGA. Here is the interesting part. I have 3 Intel 10th Gen CPU's and they all work on the particular Motherboard in question (which is an ASUS ROG STRIX Z490-E Gaming Wifi), so it must be the BGA under the LGA 1200 Socket or a bad solder joint on the slot. Here is the weird part... Depending on the CPU I installed I would get a different amount of lanes detected, with my Celeron G5905 I get x8 lanes on the Primary slot, with my i3 10100f I get x4 lanes, and finally with my i5 10400f I only get x2 lanes. I don't understand this which is why I asked you, I was wondering what your thoughts are. Thanks! Cheers!

This is a weird one. I assume you are using these CPU's in the same motherboard and the GPU in the same PCIE slot which is the X16 slot. Let me clarify my understanding.. so depending on the CPU you insert like the celeron, the GPU runs in X8 , i3 in X4 and i5 in X2. Is that correct? Normally in this case the GPU is fine and the CPU is also good nothing wrong. My assumption at this point is that either the CPU socket is damaged (most likely) secondly I would also look at the X16 slot (least likely but a possibility) if you are using ATX motherboard can you try out the X8 slot at the bottom and check if it's running in X8 on all CPU. If It's doing the same thing then like in the X16 slot it's the CPU socket that has the fault. If it's running in X8 with all CPU then the X16 slot is the one at fault. The end result is the motherboard is the one with the fault.

@@GraphicsCardRepairs-tk7ql I wanted to thank you for taking the time to help me. I really do appreciate your help. I believe you do understand the dilemma I am dealing with. Yes, this is all happening on the same motherboard (the ASUS ROG Strix z490-E - which is my Backup PC / My Primary PC is newer hardware and the Video card is detected as x16 on this one). I agree that it can't be the slot as the an lanes detected would be the same for any CPU and any GPU correct?. I just don't understand why the lanes detected are different depending on the CPU installed. It must be a cracked BGA under the LGA1200 Socket. Oh yeah, yes I get the full x8 on the middle PCH x8 slot. So it must be the CPU Socket which makes this a difficult repair. Have you ever heard or Reversing the Data Lanes? I hear it can be done by jumping two of the pads on the bottom of the CPU using sticky foil tape. If I can reverse the data lanes maybe I can get more lanes. Just curious if you know anything about this.

Is the GPU running at X8 in the second slot with all the CPU's? If yes then the issue may be with the X16 slot. you might have to put the motherboard under a microscope to check the pins on the back or replace the PCIE X16 slot. If not then it's the CPU socket that would need replacing.

@@GraphicsCardRepairs-tk7ql Yes the Video card runs in x8 in the second slot with all CPU's. I am hoping the problem is the Primary slot because I don't have the proper tools to solder a new socket. I've seen a couple videos of some guys managing it with just a hot air station, but I would need an adapter to fence in the socket and not blow up caps and such. I'll let you know after I examine the slot thoroughly. Maybe I'll get lucky as many of these heavy video cards can cause this kind of problem. Thanks for the help Friend! Cheers!

My Gigabyte AMD RX 5700 runs at x2 instead of x16, I wonder why. It started microfreezing in videogames after 4 years of working properly, I only recently checked GPU-Z and found out it's running at x2 even under load

Normally on AMD if a cap gets knocked off the GPU does not get detected. But that's in the 6000 series. Can you check if any cap sis knocked off on the PCIE at the back of the card. If you don't have a microscope you can use your phone and zoom in to peek

Is there a difference in performance after repair? Because my RTX 3080 has x2 4.0 16 GT/s link speed which is the maximum of x16 4.0, and it is running games normally.

At X2 there will be a difference in performance. At X8 the difference would have been negligible on gen 4 but at X2 there are only 2 lanes transferring data.

First I would recommend you take the GPU out and take a look at the back of the GPU to check if any capacitors have been knocked off. If nothing is knocked off then it's the PCIE slot at fault

@@GraphicsCardRepairs-tk7ql It shows running in x2, i have tried diffrent gpu and it runs fine, when I tried this gpu gtx 1050ti with core 2 duo cpu the pc doesnt even . boot, Wright now it just boots and runs in lane 2 Things I have tried reseting ram, Powercables, CPU, and sata ssd would you mind tell me what could be the problem? from your experiences and knowledge.

Sure if the GPU is running in X2 that means that one of the first 4 pairs caps are either knocked off or not making proper contact. To be precise the 3rd or the 4th pair.
