I very much appreciate all your wiring instructional videos. I have found them invaluable. I'm working on a 1972 Ford F100 in which the turn signals work great but the hazard flashers don't blink and stay on constant. It looks like the simplest solution would be to add a flasher relay to the hazard circuit. All lights are LEDs so the installed and additional flasher relays are specifically for LED bulbs. It's never a dull moment. LOL

It sounds like you’re on the right track for sure. The hazards and turn signals often have separate flashers because the hazard circuits have power 24/7. The turn signals only have it with the key on. Good luck! I’m cheering for you!

I have almost zero knowledge of electronics and I wanted to learn something by building a simple toy for my kid. I planned to use two groups of three red blinking LEDs each for "turn signals" and three white LEDs for "headlights". I also wanted to add a couple of green blinking LEDs for the signal lights on the "dashboard" when the blinkers are on, and one blue LED for the indicator that the headlights are on. Each group of turn signals would have one switch (single throw), there would be one more for the headlights and maybe one "main" switch for the whole circuit. I also wanted to add one more LED which would be on whenever the main switch is on. So in the last few days I've been browsing youtube for useful tutorials and that's how I found this one. And I like it :). Since I have an issue with my LEDs blinking at different frequencies (and I have no idea why that's happening), I'm now thinking about using relays and making something like you did in this video.

Couldn't you tap into the fused power coming in to power the 4 way hazard light switch DPST first then have it power the turn signal switch which is on / off / on second ? Only one switch is going to be on at one time....correct? The way you are bridging power from one side of the DPST switch to power both sides wouldn't the same thing be accomplished by having the power come into one side of a SPST switch then splitting the power coming out the other side ( pole ) of the same switch to power both sides of the turn signal switch?

Excellent training. I'm rewiring my VW SP2 and your videos have been essential to my success. Just added the hazard flasher today. One question: the blinkers only work with key on (12V ignition), but I want the hazard to work with 12V Bat (no key on required). Without 12V ign power to terminal 30 on the blinker relays, the hazards do not work. How can I set it up for key on blinkers but no key on required for hazards?
@WiringRescue27 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! In many vehicles the hazard circuit is entirely separate from the turn signals. It will have two flasher too. So I guess if I were doing what you are doing, I would have a separate flasher for the hazards and it fed directly from a 24/7 power source (fused properly at the battery) going to pin 30. That way you’ll have hazards anytime with the car on or off! I think I may actually have a video showing this in my wiring playlist. Hmmm

Question? I have a ford E350 cube van. all my signals work including the dash indicator light. However, when I hit the hazard lights both front and back drivers are fine. The passenger side only the back hazards work. The front end does not flash and the right-hand indicator light is out. There are only 3 wires to the bulbs ground, running and flash. So, wiring to the bulb isn't an issue. replaced with 3 different bulbs and the same issue. from this video the hazards are set up by either left and or right. If it was a switch issue, the back passenger would be out as well, correct? I am stumped as to wherte to look next. and considering its a van front end, there is NO room under the hood.
@WiringRescue2 жыл бұрын
I wonder if your light socket is damaged in some way. if you haven’t done so already, back probe the light socket or a nearby connector with a meter or test light to see if the electricity is making it out through the wires. If not, you’ll have to dig into the opposite end of the wires near the steering column and see if the power is coming out of the switch properly (it probably is). It’s a crappy process, but you basically have to chase the electricity from the bulb back to its source to find out where it is getting lost. I’d bet the issue is somewhere near the bulb socket though. That would be the most common. Also make sure you have the right bulbs in the rear too. I know you said it works, but make sure it’s actually the right one too. The wrong bulb in a different location can cause weird issues too. Good luck! I’m sorry it’s not a super easy solution for you!

Each are 1157's So there are three 1157's on the right side and 3 1157's on the left side. I have hazards up front, not in the back. All 4 corners for Blinkers work, all grounds clean. Flasher switches are ok. Cables look good ( all power tested). Noone seems to find the problem. Bulbs are ok etc. could you help me with a guess, or even better, a solution. Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have the correct bulbs. It’s very easy to put the wrong bulbs in and lose functionality. If you are 100000% sure you do, you’ll have to follow the electricity from the flasher to the rear bulbs and see where the flashing stops. Good luck! I’m cheering for you!

@@WiringRescue thank you for the quicl reply! Y You rule! I actually have signal up till the bulb socket, both for hazard and blinkers. So it has to be the bulb, which is weird cuz i tried other bulbs and also didnt work. But it really comes down to that. I guess 😅 but if it doesnt work than i’ll have to press-depress the stop pedal to emulate them hazards 😂
@WiringRescue Жыл бұрын
@@ChiruStone - haha! It could also be the socket itself - but I’ve seen the wrong bulbs more often than busted sockets. New sockets are cheap and so are bulbs, so you could swap both and cross your fingers! Good luck!

Awesome video!! I am trying to add a hazard light switch to my motorcycle. Someone said this type of wiring will burn out my existing turn signal switch....any thoughts on that? I am not sure why it would but need a little input before I try...THNAKS !!
@WiringRescue2 жыл бұрын
If you use a relay, it shouldn’t. If you skip the relay and run all the electricity for the lights directly through the switch, it will 100% burn up the switch because it was not meant to handle that much amperage. The beauty of using a relay is that all that amperage goes through the relay instead, and your existing switch is just turning the relay on and off. Hope that helps and good luck with your project! Disclosure: I’m just some guy on the internet so don’t trust everything I say, definitely do your own research on the topic to be safe :)

@@WiringRescue THANKS for the quick reply! I guess I am assuming that the current turn signal set up is already run thru a relay.....but maybe I am wrong...are you saying it's probably not run thru a relay and i need to rewire what I have to run thru 2 new relays? Which I can do, I want to be as prepared as possible w/ parts, etc. being so hard to get right now.

@@michaelspedden1078 - there is probably an easier way to achieve your goal now that I think about it. You are really just trying to turn on all your turn signals at once… so you may just need to find your existing turn signal flasher… tap into the output of it… and send it to a double pole / single throw switch. The other side of the switch will have two output wires tapped into your turn signal wires. This would keep your cost and complexity down, and use mostly factory stuff. Do you know if your bike has a normal flasher on it, or if it is some kind of weird electric module?
@michaelspedden10782 жыл бұрын
@@WiringRescue hmmm, it should be a normal flasher (it's a 2014 Yamaha)..when u say tap into the output..if I push the switch to the right, the rt turn signal lights...push switch to the left and left turn signal turns on, push the button and the signals turn off.....so I believe that when I pull the switch apart, I'll have wires going to the rt and wires going to the left...am I somehow jumping them? Thanks again for all ur help!!

I am running led directional lights .Do I have to go through a relay?
@WiringRescue2 жыл бұрын
It depends. Is your switch rated at a high enough amperage to handle the amperage draw of the light bulbs? Are the wires and flasher also rated at a high enough amperage rating for the bulbs you are using? If so - then it should be fine. The only thing to watch out for at that point would be somebody in the future adding regular bulbs in place of LED’s and it burning the circuit. If you have the fuse properly sized though, it will pop the fuse before it burns the wires or switch. Hopefully that made sense. Lol. If not, I can try again.

What’s the purpose of the relays? Could one not wire the lights directly to the flasher? One flasher for each side?

Does Increasing the load accross the flasher relay not cause it to break down, as you've changed the load from 2 bulbs to four...
@WiringRescueАй бұрын
As long as the flasher is rated for the amperage going through it, it’s fine. I actually made a video on this topic, here kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5ndf2mLmdOghqMsi=zXx5TG9C1GgBEL1P

Hey! I followed your method here and I can't find a double throw single pole hazard rocker switch for my roxor. Would match all my other switches. I thought about buying a rocker switch with alot if poles. Long as the wiring diagram is correct then just popping the top off. Not sure What else to do

I need some help. What could cause everything to work except for the rear right brake light? Flashers work everywhere except the rear right. The turn signal works everywhere except the rear right BUT when I hit the brake and have the right turn signal on, the brake light works. Both filaments work when I connect them directly to a 12v power supply for the lightbulb in question. Could it be a bad turn switch or the hazard switch? Any suggestions?

How about when you use the left or right turn signal and the hazard lights come. What would cause that???

I was wondering what if just connect the power supply to the flasher relay and the output to the switches therefore not needing the 4or5 pin relays? Will it work?
@WiringRescue2 жыл бұрын
It depends. If you use the wrong amperage switch, wire, or fuse, it will possibly light on fire. I always prefer less fire.
