How to free up locked ATV/ dirt bike motor.

Freeing up frozen/ seized Suzuki LT 230s motor.

Just curious to ask, I also got a similar problem but mine doesn't have a kick starter, its a self starter. when i press the start button, just some noise from the relay and the starter doesn't move. I wonder if just opening the cover of fly wheel and rotating it, could this possibly unseize the motor without pulling off the cylinder head. In your case, was it necessary removing the engine head revealing all the cam-shaft and valve springs ?

Hi, It wasn't completely necessary to remove the cylinder head ect.. I did that more for viewers to see the inside. I have had good luck at times by just filling the top end through the spark plug hole. then like you stated remove the fly wheel cover and put a breaker bar and a socket on there and easily try and break it free. @@AdamzGarage thank you for the reply. if i want to remove the cover and turn the flywheel, shall i first empty the engine oil. i am not sure if this compartment contains the engine oil?

@@halalmeatshophk Hi.chances are it won't have oil on that side. Depending on the machine, there are some 4 strokes that have a "wet" stator, they would have oil. Might just as well change the oil anyway if its been awhile.

I have a 87 Suzuki 230 I have the same problem of the kick start freezing like that...will this free up the kick start....the engine works fine but the kick starts not kicking down ...but what you just showed me looks like it will work

It's definitely worth a shot. It should work. Once it frees up, just make sure to put in fresh oil. Good luck 👍

I have a 2004 crf250r that seized on me, is it best to do what you did in the video or is it best to put oil in the spark plug hole to try and loosen it up?

I would try a little oil down the spark plug hole and see if it frees up. Definitely worth a shot before you tear it down.

Having issues with my 4 stroke 2020 raptor 700r, flywheel is definitely seized, it takes all my strength and wont break, should I rebuild the whole engine or just PB behind my spark plug and try again?

You could give it a shot. Being such a new machine it sounds like something locked up. The pb usually works on motors that have sat for a long time and the rings hang up on the cylinder wall. But you don't have anything to lose, I say try it.

I really do not want to rebuild the whole engine and spend 4000 bucks or so, but it’s killing me I need to get it back up and going, the starter gets hot and is trying to rotate and it is good, took housing apart by stator and see nothing to catch it and keep it from spinning. Only thing worth noticing is the flywheels bolt seized. Thank you very much

I'm having this problem on a yamaha blaster the kick start is stuck but it will run if I push start or pull with another quad. Should I just take off the cover and try to loosen it?

Your issue sounds more like something with the kick start mechanism itself. If you can push start it then your piston is free. Usually when you can't get the motor to spin from sitting its usually the rings seized up. But again Your issue seams to be in the shift mechanism itself.

I got a yamaha grizzly 125 and I think my back brakes are seizing up will this video fix it? or will it be the callipers its RWD

If it has a rear disk brake, chances are the calipers are starting to hang up. Good luck, hope it's something easy.

I would certainly try it. It's one of those what do you have to lose situations. If it didn't seize really bad you may get lucky. I've had it work a time or 2. 👍

Hey I have a stuck kick starter and I believe the motor is seized so you basically took it apart and loosen the screw? If I’m not mistaken

Yeah pretty much, let the penetrating oil set in for awhile, it will hopefully loosen everything up.

It's definitely easier in my opinion to remove motor, I would try something a little stronger like ob blaster if the wd40 isn't doing the trick . Definitely let it sit overnight

Hey, If its definitely the bottom end , then you will have to split the cases and see what's going on. Possibly a broken gear? Or if it sat for a long time could just be seized up if it got water in it. Make sure it's not the top end. Before you dive into the bottom. The top end is much easier.

if the motor was overheated as cause for seize. after unseizing is it possible to not have to rebuild it and still be effectively useable ?

If you can get it to free up completely. You might be okay. If it was ran without oil you may not be so lucky. But I say try it and see what happens I've had pretty good luck in the past. It may smoke a bit, but you might buy yourself some time.

It's worth a shot, usually on a 4 stroke it's the valves that get stuck. Chances are your piston is seized to the wall.you could remove the spark plug and add the penetrating oil in there and let it sit. I wouldn't say you'll be in top shape if it does free up, but you may be able to get it running and buy some time. When your done make sure you change your transmission oil. The penetrating oil can get past the rings ECT. Hopefully it's not your bottom end that is hung up. That's a whole other issue. Good luck with your project.

I would get the rear tire up in the air and with it in gear try and spin the rear tire. If it's locked up make sure it's not something with the chain ect.

If nothing is hung up chain, brakes ect. Then I would get it in neutral and see if you can kick it. If it won't kick it's possible the piston seized.

so I have a Kawasaki kx 250 and the kick lever is locked and won’t let me kick it over do I have to replace the top end or should I try something? sorry not real good with explaining things

Being a 2 stroke, chances are the top end is locked up. If its been sitting for a long period of time and the rings are hung up, it might be worth a try. But if it happened while you were riding your probably into a top end at least. Good luck 👍
