Malia Parker I say that that is a lot of 'have to be's.' Call me a romantic, but I don't think that boys should 'have to be' anything other then who they want to be. They are people too and there shouldn't be a divide on how they act vs how the female population acts. Chivalry is nice, but, if that is not who they are, they could only keep up appearances for so long. Of course, I never really subscribed to the 'Just be you' talk that always circulates around this topic, because, at that age, there really isn't an idea of self. I think it's better to strive for the 'better you.' As my friend puts it, "if you want the prince charming in your life, strive to become that prince charming." Fanciful words and life isn't always fair or ends happily ever after, but my advice to boys would be that 'everyone values different things and just chase what you value. There are people who can understand you and people who don't.' Oh and of course, 'treat women and girls like diverse people who have desires and dreams which may or may not clash with your own. They are not trophies, dolls, or prizes. They are people with their own ideologies. Respect that.' Oh, and watch this video.

I realize this is an old vid, but here are my tips on girls: Be yourself Go after a girl with common interests Avoid girls with nothing in common with you (aka most preps/"hot girls") Talk to girls about common interests Don't be super clingy Try not to get too self-conscious, a lot of "flaws" guys see (insert gender roles here) girls either like, don't mind, or want Sex is not the goal Sex is not the goal Actually, this whole list can be reversed and work for any person towards any person. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with fininding someone who you're compatable with. It's hard to make someone like you're just not what they're looking for. One of the first things you should do includes finding out what you have in common, what they they're looking for, and what they're like. If you find that you're not what they're looking for, don't push a romantic relationship that includes you pretending to be something you're not (that's a horrible way to start a relationship). You shouldn't be showering them in complements or start buying a lot of stuff for them. A complement every now and then that you actually mean (and aren't just saying to get that person to like you more) is fine. But, if you keep compliemting them, that doesn't make someone more interested in you, it just makes them know you're interested in them. Also, when people give shit to you, it makes you feel like you owe them something, which is also an awkward and unhealthy way to starty a relationship. Just be nice, try to have fun together, and talk to them a lot.

As a nerd girl watching this I can say that girls definitely don't like it when guys get too clingy. Like I remember there was this boy who liked me, he tried to kiss me and I may or may not have broken his nose... One thing I find appealing in a guy is common interest. For example if girl really loves Pokemon then maybe you can learn a little about Pokemon so that you can have a conversation with her about it and not just have uncomfortable situations. Another pro tip. I know that me and a few other girls find it adorable when a guy's voice cracks for a moment, it might seem embarrassing to you, but to other nerd girls I know it is cute. Being a nerd myself, I would rather a guy just be kind to me and cut me some slack even if I don't fit into his criteria of any ideal type, which is less than imperfect. How anyone can fit into anyone's ideal expectations is beyond my understanding. But I guess that's life and I know I'm capable of loving anyone regardless of who they are and what clique that person or more is in. As much as I admit to looking into dating alternative guys, I honestly thought it wouldn't be enough when I had a gut feeling I would date someone who wasn't really an alternative person. While there's a lot of factors that help a relationships, there is no exact formula. It helps to be able to pay the bills, because that's less stress. It's helps to communicate, because that helps relieve stress. It helps to share interests, because that increases anti-stress. It helps to be with a partner who just works well off of your personality. However, these factors are variable, and there are many more which all add up to the lifetime of a relationship and the general happiness of it. However, a great way to create a terrible relationship is to be in one while being a train wreck of a human being. It doesn't make you a bad person, it just means you need to sort some stuff out, and while other people can help, that responsibility will usually fall mostly on you, and you can't expect a person to hang around if your not at least trying very hard to fix yourself, especially if it's still an early relationship. That person shouldn't sacrifice their happiness for yours, and vice versa. Everyone has needs. Basically, a relationship is not a cure to your ills, nor anyone else's, it's the reward you get for being complete on your own. That's a quote from somewhere, I believe.
