I’m applying to UT, my whole family graduated from there. I was top 5% of my class, BUT because sooo many kids dropped out I am now 6.1%. I was so heartbroken when I found out I didn’t make auto admission. I have a 5.13 GPA on a 5 point scale. I have a really bad ACT & there is no time to retake it. I’m majoring in Psychology, and I hope I get into the PACE program at least... but my ACT is really bad and I don’t have time to retake it. I’m so bummed about my auto admit.. :(

I have a weighted gpa of 4.6 but below average ACT and SAT scores and regular deadline is December 1st so i don’t have time to retake it :’( .I do well in my rigorous classes but I suck at test taking and could never afford extra help. Also my school is suuupper competitive. I really would love to become a future longhorn but I feel like my test scores are weighing me down. Any advice? I love your videos btw💕

Sydney Dawkins believe in yourself. I’m in a similar situation as yours but I’m sure you’re unique in your own way and that’s what you have to show them. Don’t assume all they care about is test scores.

Sydney Dawkins you have till December 31st to submit another score. Just make sure you have any SAT or ACT score by December 1st but you can take another test just rush the score send to UT

I used to be top 4 in my class but I went down to top 8 :( I know top 7 students got free admission to UT. I told my counselor and he said I couldn’t get into UT with my rank. I chose test optional for my application but I’m really hoping I can get in. My scores weren’t that good either but I’m really hoping I get in.

A- Goat I don’t think you can but it doesn’t hurt to call and ask! If they say I wouldn’t stress, your SAT score will still shine!

I have a 3.7 gpa as a junior it should go up after I’m done with this school year. My sat score in my first attempt was a 1360. I didn’t do the act yet. I want to major in either electrical or mechanical engineering. I plan to do 8 ap classes by graduation. I’m sort of lacking on the extracurricular side. I have many hobbies like playing chess and coding I might actually start a chess club at my school with some friends next year. I plan on UT Austin or a&m/u of h as safeties. Is there anything else I need to work on? I feel like I am lacking on the gpa and extracurriculars and my sat score might not be competitive enough but idk. Thanks if you read this :)

On the same boat as you, we have the same GPA! I’m also lacking the extracurricular area. My advice is for us is maybe to work on getting our GPA up in our senior year (All As!) I also think you should consider joining key club if they offer that at your school or something to get volunteer hours. If you work, that’s counts too, and it could be an excuse for why you don’t have extracurriculars.

Do you think extracurriculars play a huge part into getting in? And if I only took student council for one year is it worth putting on my application? I mean I already submitted but I was just wondering. I’m in NHS (3 yrs) STUCCO (1yr) FCCLA (1yr) Volleyball (1yr). It’s not a lot but it’s mainly bc I’ve focused so much on academics and keeping all A’s.

Mursi Graham it CAN help but I didn’t discuss essays in this video bc they are honestly a lot less important. I highly suggest writing on a topic that is genuinely important to you, have some people read it and give you feedback, and be as concise/grammatically correct as possible.

Not a senior, I'm a community college student at DCCCD and I plan on trying to transfer next fall. I graduated in 2016 but I been in community college on and off since then. Does my high school information still count? I honestly wasn't the best student in high school but I been making good grades in college. To transfer they just look at your college GPA + your resume (which would include high school jobs/extracurrics)
