As an honors graduate of the University of Texas (2 different degrees), the best advice I can give anyone is to work, work, work. You need a social life, yes; but your school work comes first. And while I was at the university, I had to work at outside jobs the whole time and so I had very, very little free time. And if I had some free time, I used it to rest. But do continue to go to church and make friends in your classes. You are all in this together and you can help each other. Also, I suggest taking notes by handwriting them instead of typing them on a laptop. You remember things so much better when you physically write them down. Form study groups; go to tutoring sessions; know your TAs and don't hesitate to ask them and the professor your questions during their office hours. Go to the library to study because it is almost impossible to concentrate in a dorm room or apartment. Also the university has so many wonderful libraries and museums. Avail yourself of seeing them while you are there. You can join clubs or honor societies while you are there at the university, but I think future employers will be more impressed with maintaining some level of employment while you were at the university. I do think the university experience at UT will be one of the most difficult times of your life, but it will also paradoxically be one of the best times of your life. It is wonderful to be in an environment where you can learn so much and be exposed to a large variety of cultural experiences. "HOOK EM HORNS!"
@rizzoli73 жыл бұрын
wow really deep. thank you, could you expand more on your faith
@faithfulforever63313 жыл бұрын
@@rizzoli7 On my faith? I've relied on my faith throughout my life to get through difficult times. Faith is not just a belief for me; it is also a guiding force in my life. It guides me morally and spiritually and my life would be very shallow without it. If you have faith, you will find that not only do you not need much else in life, you also find that possessions are more of an encumbrance than a means to achieving happiness. And a developed faith helps tremendously in any type of human relationships you may have and of course, it is the means to a closeness with the creator too. And I want to strongly add, that if you are at the university, have faith in yourself. You would not be at the University of Texas if you didn't have promise and ability. When things get rough at the university (and they will), believe in yourself!

How sad that you party when you lose. I hope it isn't true. And your grammar isn't correct. It should be: "When we lose, we party; when we win, we party even more." Are you sure that you are at the University of Texas?

Interestingly enough, I did feel overwhelmed at times due to the huge numbers of students at UT; but I don't think I could ever say that I felt like a small fish in a big pond. I think I was too excited about seeing all the possibilities for learning and for meeting so many interesting people that UT offered. And as anyone will tell you who went to UT, that big pond gets smaller with every year you are at UT. You make so many friends over time that you can't ever cross campus without seeing a friend. It may still be a big pond, but you no longer feel like a small fish. You feel part of something that is great!
@faithfulforever63313 жыл бұрын
That is interesting that you said everyone feels like a hot shot at the university. That was not my experience at UT at all. I rarely compared myself to others because you will always find someone better than yourself and someone worse than yourself. So just focus on doing the best for yourself. Forget comparisons.

I go to Boston University and I am currently a Sophomore, and want to transfer for next year. I don't vibe with the people and Boston and, so my social life has been unfortunate. BU's communication school is one of the best in the country and I know UT is really good too! I have never been to Texas, but I am definitely looking for that hype because there was no tailgaiting and that classic college culture at BU. I LOVED THIS VIDEO

Hannah Scott as a transfer I don’t know from experience (I got accepted as an incoming freshman from high school) but I can say it is super common. all the fresh transfer blood replaces all the people that for some reason or another left each semester. for that reason, I’d say you have a high chance.

@@edwardryaan ,last question, how many credits do you need in order for you to be a junior at ut, because i plan to transfer to ut after community college.
@edwardryaan5 жыл бұрын
Leila Anderson that’s an excellent question. You need 120 credits to apply to graduate so I would say 60+ transferable credits would make you a junior which A LOT of people do! they will take basics elsewhere and then take all their core degree classes here.

Rashi Bhalerao I am currently in Prather Dormitory and I will be there again next year! I highly recommend it if you want to save some money for a decently sized room, larger than Jester’s rooms. The only downfall is that it doesn’t have a sink in the room and it isn’t renovated. Either way it’s a great dorm and I would recommend it!
