Thank you so much for posting this. Acquired 8 extremely rare Iron Maiden albums. And some moron put the hype sticker on the jacket of the albums. Was very nervous and very scared to attempt this. I have been using the sticker removal method with a heat gun for decades! You have to be careful with laminated covers. There are heat guns with adjustable temperature starting at 50°/60°C. Of course, the vinyl should be removed from the sleeve first!

Use lighter fluid instead of wd40 to get rid of any residual adhesive. It dries clean without a trace: no smell, no stain.

Wow, this method actually works well. It works on all sizes too. Just got a large round orange MSRP sticker off a Dickies record that's been stuck there since '79 and you wouldn't have even known it was there. I have generic goo gone that I used to get any remnants off. Thanks!!

My "go to" to remove the sticky residue? Good old plain furniture polish (pledge, etc.) Works every time, and super cheap.

DO NOT use a lighter on a record label sticker. The heat will cause the label to bubble up, even if you only do it for a second. I know from experience unfortunately.

I do the lighter-trick since my early twens when working at a recordstore. Always works since 20+ years - never burned a cover (nore vinyl, haha). Also easy trick to open new shrinked vinyls: rubbing the side to open quickly on your jeans (jeans - no cotton or some else fabric). The foil heatens up and opens briefly.

Yeah, I should have given credit for the lighter trick to a really great guy I met out in Colorado Springs. Owner of Leechpit Records showed me that one. I always pay attention when someone who handles hundreds of records a day shares a tip! Thanks for yours, BTW.

... I agree to your technique, but it depends on the (surface) material of the Cover. pure paper, laminated, fully laminated e.t.c. instead of a wd40 PEN I Use washing gasoline for the glue-leftovers. instead of a hairdryer, I know some big 2nd hand buyers/Shopswho handle hundred lp's a day use a heater- Tool...

Yep, I've got an industrial strength heat gun in the shop (basically a heat gun on steroids), but have been hesitant to use it. Kicks out an incredible amount of heat.

Much safer to use parchment paper and an iron placed on the synthetic material setting.

Thanks for this tip! Doesn't the WD40 pen stain or yellow the cover? That can't be good for the paper as it ages, even if it is wiped off. What have you seen over time when you've done this? BTW, I did an order from your store a few months back and I was really impressed by the care that went into packing my records. I hadn't heard of Deaf Man before, so I was nervous, but you definitely convinced me! Thank you so much!

I've not had any trouble with the WD40 staining. But I've used this method primarily on covers with coated stock. I imagine that something more "papery" - like the Allman's Eat a Peach album - could have issues. On something like that, I'd use lighter fluid, which dries quickly and doesn't seem to leave any stain. And thanks for your order, BTW. Appreciate the support!

Well i tried the method it works but unfortunately it damaged the cover. When i took of the stickers cleand it with WD40 over a short time it left white spots where the stickers were on the glossy cover that i cant clean off. I not shure but i think that the problem is that its a glossy cover. If there is any suggestions how to fix this problem please let me know.

You have to make sure all the WD-40 is completely cleaned off. After you use it take a damp cloth and run it over the top of the album cover very lightly don't soak it and then take a dry cloth and wipe it down and that won't happen the WD-40 is leaving residue stains

I wouldn't done that, the only thing worthwhile of any Kansas album is the price sticker.

I use Goo Gone. It's orange oil, and the price sticker comes off after 5 minutes. Easy Peaszy. Thats all I use. 😊👍

Ouch. Some of them are pretty stubborn. Another approach is to carefully soak the area with lighter fluid, which does a good job of loosening the adhesive and drying quickly (no fire with this method).

I've been using lighter fluid lately (not lighting it!) and it does a good job of loosening stickers. Then hit it one more time to get the residual adhesive off.
