I'm dealing with this cough now and I've had it before where my throat itches all the time. It's your brain telling you there is gunk in your throat that needs to clear. Coughing just becomes addictive to your brain so it's a cycle that never stops. You have to replace coughing with another method of ridding the gunk. Drinking water is the preferred way to 1 distract your brain from having to cough temporarily and 2 flushing some of the stuff down. You have to try your hardest to not cough. Think of it like everytime you cough, that increases your itch more...every time you can prevent it, your taking one more step to getting rid of the cough. Easier said than done, I've had nearly 4 weeks of it once before I knew what to do.

The only over the counter cough syrup I have found effective is a guaifenesin one as it moistens the mucus in your lungs causing you to cough it out. Most I've found though as pretty ineffective. I use a netty pot for nasal rinsing as it's easier to sterilise and not as aggressive on the nose. Tumeric is also great to add with ginger.
