Put the baking soda and salt down the drain first. Then pour in the vinegar. Quickly cover the drain and let set for at least 2 hours but overnight is best. Flush with boiling water. It could possibly take more than one treatment. Also, red wine mixed with a few drops of dish liquid makes a better trap. I had a terrible time with drain flies and these tips really work.

I live in an RV. I had these gnats flying around my home for weeks. I would find them dead and alive in my bathtub . I didn't know where they were coming from until I watched this video. The gnats we're aggravated when I ran my AC. I actually thought they were coming through the AC somehow. I followed the instructions on the video. I took out my AC filters and scrubbed them. After I poured the solution down the bathtub drain and toilet black tank. I let it sit over night. I poured the boiling water in and let it sit for 2 hours. Then dumped both the grey and black water tanks. I have been running the AC and so far no more gnats. Thank you for the video.

Hey bud, Nice tips for pest control in general. But the only way to eliminate sewer flies for good, is to repair the breach that is in contact with the soil. I am a sewer inspector for over 30 years and this is the only way to eliminate the source of the problem. Most topical agents like the ones you shared will never reach the middle and upper sections of main drain or sewer line, Although they will likely kill any actual flies in or near the secondary traps. For the main drain or sewer lines, a topical agent would need to be delivered with some type of foaming product that would cover the entire surface of the inside of the pipe. The guy in the HOA needs to contract a Sewer inspector with a camera to identify the source of the break. Once repaired, flies are gone. Cheers

If you have a garbage disposal, I believe it's better to mix the baking soda and vinegar in the drain. Pouring it down the drain after much of the chemical reaction has occurred in the bowl seems to prevent one from being able to effectively coat the outer edges of the disposal. Just a suggestion, but I believe the foaming reaction is what allows you to coat the entire surface area

Mine are coming from the metal plate that screws into the wall, above the drain. It doesn't fit flat onto the tub due to corrosion and bubbled tub material (been like that since I moved in 10 years ago. I get maybe 5 drain flies per day and kill them individually when I see them. I also have cats. Will this solution work even though the problem doesn't seem to be coming from the actual drain, but rather the plate above it?

Here's something I discovered a few days ago. I'm guessing they take their naps in carpet. I steam cleaned my carpet with very hot water, a couple capfuls of white vinegar and about 5-8 drops of Tea Tree oil. There were hundreds in the dirty water tank. And lots in the 1st plain hot water rinse and still a shocking # in the 2nd rinse. Will be doing a third rinse today. Since gnats breed in the disposal and drains, I find it's smarter to flush the dirty water down the toilet in case some aren't dead I won't be pouring them right back in their penthouse!!

For my camper, I put about two inches of apple cider vinegar in a big clean whipped topping bowel and sat it in bathtub and closed the door and caught about a hundred drain flies in it. I did an experiment and I killed more using just apple cider vinegar. Also put it under a light in kitchen sink and they are attracted to light and white bowels I found out. How I got the drain flies was I paid my neighbor $20 to weed eat around my hook up since I was away from my camper most of the summer. He cut my sewage hose and it was leaking black tank when I pulled the tank for a week before I could order and replace it. I left my gray tank open and they came up in it that way. So if that happens to you don’t leave any tanks open until you can fix the problem. And treat the grown with a water and soapy bleach solution where sewage was outside. I cover my kitchen sink drains so I realized where they were coming from. My stupid neighbor could have told me he cut the sewage line but he is acting like he did nothing. Werid. But the smell was terrible, so I used a couple mason jars and put scran wrap over the top and lid around edges and pokes holes in it and caught about 50-100 and didn’t have to smell the apple cider vinegar.

I brought exterminators, and a few days later, they returned. I don't have them as badly as this house does (yet, and I stress YET! haha), but it's getting bad. I know there has to be a cracked drain somewhere underneath our houses.

But also check and make sure you don'y have a broken pipe in your plumbing. You will never get rid of the drain flies until it's fixed they can lay 30 to 200 eggs per day they live for only 2 weeks and the will make nest in your furinture your bedding and window tracts. the are drawn to light. don't use boiling water just really hot water boiling water may cause damage to you PVC pipes as they are plastic...

Ya i tried to use the baking soda and vinegar in my shower drain and salt and also tried drain fly gel from home depot 2 bottles quart size and im still infested. Idk what to do?
@adeelrais37353 жыл бұрын
@@erinmacmurdo9917 for spray mixture i used a 0.5 liter spray bottle and added 1 tea spoon of dish washing soap. I found out the more soap u add the better it works. So here is my success story against the drain flies... It took me around 40 days in total to completely get rid of them through a continuous operation against them. So in my case drain flies infested my indoor garden through cracks in the sewage manhole. I sealed those cracks and killed all the flies i could see using the dish washing soap spray and they kept returning next day. I noticed more cracks and sealed them too and kept killing those flies every day for 3 - 4 days. Meanwhile some of them entered my washroom through a window and lay eggs there after a week or so my washroom was infested too and to further add to my pain air draught from ceiling fan in my room kept pulling them out from underneath my washroom door and each day i would have to kill 50 + drain flies that would gather behind my window curtain because they are attracted to light. I even removed carpet from my room to check if there are any possible cracks on the floor from where they are coming ! On all the drains of my washroom p-traps are installed that prevent bad odour and insects from crossing over to the washroom but i was being paranoid so i installed fiber mesh on the drains to check if they were coming from there, this didnt stopped them. I concluded that they have laid eggs in the washroom which explains why they keep coming back. I gave an acid wash to my washroom. I used drain opening acid and a squeegee to make sure all the corners come in to contact with the acid purpose was to kill the larvae and eggs as they lay eggs in damp places. This seemed to work. Next day their number significantly reduced instead of 50 only 16 showed up and i kept the spray bottle in the washroom and every time i saw one i would spray on it and kill it. After few days their "size" became smaller which means they were the new onces who just came out of larvae phase. The idea behind killing them every day was to break their breeding cycle which i did and after a month their number reduced by 90 % after 40 days they were gone. As for my indoor garden, yes they seemed to bread on the damp soil but they disappeared once their breading cycle was broken by continuously killing them and sealing the cracks from where the new onces could enter. The soap spray did not harmed the plants i had in the garden but i made sure to shower them with clean water after i used dishwashing soap spray. To sum it all up, to eliminate them u will have to seal all the openings from where they could enter and keep killing the existing onces until their breading cycles breaks and they die before laying more eggs. Remember each female lays 30 to 100 eggs at the age of 3 weeks. The females are larger in size then male drain flies.

*There is a drain hole on the either right or left side of INSIDE your garbage disposal is where they lay there eggs, thIs SMAL DRAIN HOLE needs cleaned, they build whole nest of eggs INSIDE its a hole/drain that goes to THROUGH to the other side of the other sink, if this isnt cleaned "FORGET IT" you have to have a flashlight and SMALL brush to clean OUT LOTS of eggs NO ONE CAN NOT SEE THIS DRAIN HOLE.*

Vinegar is acidic and will take the chrome off of anything it is allowed to remain on. Use something else.

I'm helping my gma who is like 70 get rid of her drain flies, but I don't think I'll be successful bc she refuses to listen to anyone. I told her what we have to do, and that it needs done for a couple Days, but she refuses to do it more than once, and keeps going to those damn food giveaways that give old fruit and veggies out to the needy and lets them sit til they go ripe, and that's how she got them in the first place. It's frustrating trying to help ppl who ask for it, then refuse to listen or follow instructions bc they're older and "know more" (sarcasm). I'm really frustrated if you can't tell.

@@Housebarons I managed to talk her into it. I went by her place this morning just to do another boiling water treatment this morning. Seems like they're almost all gone now.

Get someone who can speak. This guy is so annoying. Takes forever to say a simple thought. Is he reading from a tiny que card? Awful.
