One I found easier for myself to ease into was to say to myself “I am no more and no less worthy of love as everyone else” it felt more true to where I was at at the time and then change it later to “I am lovable”

I so agree. I am terrible about my hateful self talk. It seems so ingrained in my soul. Lots of negative comments that must be healed. Never good enough no matter how much I try. I wished I would have heard this video 30+ years ago. But thank you Michele for some of the best videos on codependency. I'm close to 60 years old and my parents were negative comments as their total go to. I don't remember every being praised and I'm starving for it. I married a mid range narc 34 years ago. We've raised 5 kids, and they all have issues. Why wouldn't they?' They grew up in a volatile, not a stable household. I'm so very sorry for them. I realize how much work is involved in our healing process but it's got to be today.

The bonus tip is great. Internalize the compliments we receive. I usually say thank you and move on. Today I had a transgender woman flirt with me. She said I was cute and adorable. I went to my doctor's office to change my insurance and there she was in the reception area, flirting mightily with me. I did not know what to make of her, but I was gracious and polite and briefly talked. Tried not to stare and process at the same time. Only the second one I have ever encountered. Both men to women.

You’re a great therapist you really know how to talk to people you have really helped me so far I used to have a lot of self-esteem issues because of a fact and they call psychiatrist but today they call him psychologist she would say to me, Dana you have great concentration, but you are slightly retarded, and then I took the Kleenex and I wipe my nose lumen nose then I threw it against the wall. If we were today I would’ve thrown it at her. I was so angry and sad at the same time nobody ever calls me retarded ever again they don’t use that word anymore they now use mentally impaired or Please..
