We used to call this "dieting".. You can call it what you want, but it muddies the waters when you're saying fasting but still taking in calories. It's just a contradiction in terms. So fasting" isn't the right word for it.. "Dieting" may not be the right word either. "Restricting.. maybe, would be better to say. We just need to create a better word for "caloric deficit".. WE need a nice trendy word to represent what you're doing.. because it's obviously working well. "Abstaining? maybe..

Terrific video. I just don't understand why some fitness influencers won't use the proper terms. Fasting has a literal definition, that is a medical term as well. So to say you're fasting, then describe your eating pattern during your fast, is simply a false statement. Mark is describing extreme caloric restriction. He is not describing fasting, in the sense that the medical, or even the current fitness community understands and defines the term. He is right of course, he does not know about autophagy or any of the neurological status effects of proper fasting. If he did, then he obviously wouldn't use the term fasting while describing caloric intake during that period. ANY Caloric intake during a fast, compromises the neurological responses that could happen if you were actually not eating. Denying the body food, purposefully, causes a mental reaction and response that has physiological consequences. Extreme caloric restriction does similar, but the consequences are different. It's simply disputable to imply that both Fasting and Extreme Caloric Restriction are one in the same. Giving your body a little bit of food tells it one thing, giving the body zero food, tells it another, and it will respond accordingly.

I've been using fasting for several years. I fast after dinner Sunday until Tuesday morning/noon. I only drink water with electrolytes and coffee. Sometimes I also use intermittent fasting, or prolonged fasts up to 72 hours. Autophagy occurs after fasting without food for 48-72 hours. “Auto” means self and “phagy” means eat, so the literal meaning of autophagy is “self-eating.” It's basically an evolutionary self-preservation mechanism through which the body removes dysfunctional cells and recycles them for cellular repair and cleaning, so if you're concerned about health, doing a 2-3 days fast--without food--every now and then can give remarkable results. Even fasting for 24 hours has shown to increase HGH levels significantly.
@LauraB.3352 ай бұрын
Depending upon who you listen to and how metabolically healthy you are to start with, autophagy starts at about 17-24 hours, and then peaks at either 48 or 72 hours, at which point stem cell production kicks into high gear.
@A2Fan712 ай бұрын
@@LauraB.335 The data suggesting autophagy occurs after fasting for 24 hours largely comes from animal studies, but shorter fasts can lead to mild activation, while longer fasts lead to increased activation. This is the case with HGH as well. Fasting for 24 hours can increase HGH levels five times, while fasting for 72 hours can increase HGH by 300%. As you stated, it depends largely on your metabolic health, and there’s other factors you want to consider with longer fasts such as loss of muscle mass. I agree, it does depend on “who you listen to” when it comes to the length of fasts and benefits you’ll receive. My doctor has told me he doesn’t really recommend fasting. Needless to say, I don’t “listen” to him when it comes to fasting, because I’ve been using fasting for years, and the benefits I’ve received are remarkable!

Hey can you break down your fast days , how long, which days you do 24 hrs , what days you do less time etc

For the average person that doesn't take trt that can't overcome carb addictions, it surprises me that you're fasting on trt cause you me both know them carb addictions on trt is so so much more. I actually got off trt to get my food control back, it was the only way. Carnivore and fasting is the best choice for optimal health and strength

I am sure fasting (short or prolonged) is essencial for resetinh you physically and mentally. You have to adjust it to your needs.🙏🏽 No excuse, we are usually overfed and weak without this challenge.

I’ve heard 2 opposed ideas when it comes to fasting and testosterone levels. I’ve heard that fasting can BOOST test levels but I’ve also heard that being super low body fat can reduce test levels. Maybe fasting will boost test levels UNTIL you get super low body fat. Anybody know?

Fasting boosts HGH, therefor boosts T

The way people used to “cut” was by eating low fat (like bland chicken breast and rice) and over training. That lowers your T. It was BS, now you can fast and for your one meal eat fatty grass fed beef and eggs and avocado and fruit and train hard but don’t overtrain and your T actually goes UP

Speaking of really really heavy, I’ve been doing 1 day fasts once per week and I’ve gone from 427 down to 330. Got a lot a work left but it’s in the downward direction.

Back in September-October of 2023, I went 28 days water only. It was tough, but it worked. I really appreciate your no-nonsense approach this, too. Sometimes, we make things too difficult. Gonna put some of your advice to use during my next fast...💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿‼️

After years of not listening to me, my wife started fasting and do OMAD. She went from XL to S in a year. Her transformation is insane, and still all the jealous morons can only say how dangerous it is .....

I'd be curious to see your take on a protein-sparing modified fast. Basically only eating a certain number of grams of only lean protein, no fats or few fats, and no carbs. It purportedly has similar effects to fasting, but helps keep lean mass loss down because you still get your protein macros but little to no energy substrates. It also helps to do resistance training while on such a fast. Thanks.

Can you have a protein shake and creatine after a workout?
@aiami26957 ай бұрын
Nobody talks about how protein and fat diet or fasting effects on the normal waste extraction and gut health. How many times needs to go to the toilet, what is normal and healthy stool, is there any constipation, is there any hemorroides problems etc etc... 🤔🤔

For me, multiple long fasts fixed those issues, but that is just my experience. I can’t speak for everyone.

I had none of these issues on my recent 48 hour fast. Maybe some mild diarea. Other than that its a pretty simple equation of eat less = poop less.
