Rocco, i found your channel for the second time today after doing colour grading reasearch for the pre production phase of my travel video. you remind me of Aidin Robbins. His channel used to be my go to stop for youtube filmmaking tutorials. Now hes switched to documentaries, and ive switched to Davinci resolve from Vegas and Premeire, so, i think i will stick around with this channel. You're an inspiration. You Earned a sub buddy 🤞

I'm legitimately considering switching from premiere to davinci, not for every video, but premiere just cannot handle when I edit an entire project. Plus I could learn more about color grading in Davinci!
@RoccoGermani2 жыл бұрын
Davinci is certainly a powerful software, provided that you have the hardware to run it. Premiere pro destroyed my old computer, but Davinci Resolve ran excellently on it, and this newer one I built last year is 10x better for Davinci. I don't have premiere installed but I bet it would be better. If you do a ton of editing it's definitely worth investing in a good editing setup for sure. The possibilities with Davinci Resolve are incredible and I know you'd create great things with it Wesley! Thanks for watching!
@WesleyProductions2 жыл бұрын
@@RoccoGermani I'll have to research how Davinci runs on a mac, because premiere pro is awful. If I get the free version what would I be missing out on compared to the studio version?
@RoccoGermani2 жыл бұрын
The only things you would be missing with the studio version would be GPU acceleration, ability to access 10 bit footage within the software (unless it's prores/dnxHR), and having a few creative effects not available to you. I'd say it's definitely worth getting the free version to check it out and learn on it to see if you like it, then you can make your decision on whether or not you want to get the studio version.

Thank you for this. I just got resolve last week and am finishing a few premiere projects before i dive in. I'm shooting on a z cam e2f6 in case you have any insight!
@RoccoGermani2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the video! I have no experience with Z-Cam, I don't think their color spaces are recognized by Resolve by default. If you use an external recorder you might be able to capture blackmagic raw externally. I'm not sure what Z Cams can do it but it's worth looking into. That way you can have full integration with Resolve.

Love this tutorial , my only question is what if there is a streetlight or lights in the video? I like the effect but if i want to keep the light source looking like its natural color (white/tungsten etc.) How do i keep the blue tone without changing the light?
@RoccoGermani Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! What I would do for that scenario a layer mixer setup and create the blue look on the top node, but on the bottom node, I would isolate the highlights using a luminance key within the qualifier/hsl tab. (Disable hue and saturation, and just select the luminance range first. If that's not enough you can add in hue or saturation, but you should get there with just luminance, just make sure to soften/feather the key) By doing this you are effectively taking those brighter areas and then putting them on top of the blue area. Hope this helps!

i have a canon EOS Rebel SL3 how do i do the color space transform with it?
@RoccoGermani Жыл бұрын
The SL3 only shoots 8 bit footage, so you'd enter in both the input color space and gamma as either Rec.709 or sRGB. They're basically the same thing.

Can i just know why im a doing the exact same thing and not getting the same reslut ?
@RoccoGermani8 ай бұрын
There could be a few things contributing to this: Is your footage shot in the same color space as mine? (CLOG-3) Was your footage shot on a moody day? Were your white balance and exposure correct in camera? These will have an effect on the color grade.

What about them?
@smalltownparanormal95 ай бұрын
@@RoccoGermani would everything in the video apply with these cameras? tried with my Canon and came out pretty different.
@RoccoGermani5 ай бұрын
@@smalltownparanormal9 well, if you're grading footage from an EOS R, the input settings will be different as that camera only shoots Canon Log 1 within Rec.709. So, your input color space will be Rec.709 and your input gamma will be Canon Log 1. Everything else should be the same after that. Now, this grade is designed for use with moody/dark/foggy footage. Don't be suprised if it doesn't work well on there.
