Most of my music from the past year has come from audio network. My Cinematic masterclass music was all from music bed. I don’t have an FS7 2, just the mk1 but it isn’t my main camera these days. I have used the FS5 with shogun inferno more last year and recently it’s the Canon C200, Kinefinity Terra 4K and yes A7R3 Thanks for making this.

He is the calm voice in a sea of waving hands on KZbin. Totally agree his music is the glue that binds his compelling video.

So glad I found this video this morning. New to film making and recently discovered Philip Bloom and was captivated by his videos, the style, color, composition, slow motion etc. Spent yesterday taking notes asking myself, how does he do that? - makes it look simple yet to make it emotionally and stylistically appealing obviously takes great skill. Thanks for sharing.

I love Philip Blooms style, and imho there's a few things that need to be added here... 1. He's been shooting with the Kinefinity Terra 4k for the last couple of months. 2. He's a big fan of the Fuji cine zooms. 3. One thing that it's important to notice is that so many of his shots have no camera movement - you could call it 'quiet camera' - it seems to draw you into a tranquil place and ties the image in with the generally atmospheric music choice. 4. His subject matter is generally candid, and is often people or animals which gives the viewer a hint of someone elses day and their emotions. 5. Black levels always high, contrast and saturation always low (unless a secondary colour is being used to pop something like a London bus). It's a unique style, and I always look forward to his stuff, both from a technical and film-making perspective.

Enjoy guys :) I hope you like my take on Philips style. Just a couple of corrections - Philip is still using the fs7 mk1 and has also been using the fs5 and Kinefinity Terra 4K recently

One more very important part of getting "Bloomy" footage -- a tripod! Obviously he uses a gimbal and does some handheld as well but so much of his work is on a rock-solid tripod.

I saw an IG post from Philip that showed a chart where 10% was film/production/editing and 90% was sourcing the right music for the final cut. I guess that's why the audio & video seem well matched. To see more about lens whacking go to Philips channel and watch his brilliant video on it. Great topic Harv 👍

Really great work here, Harv. Some of your shots had me fooled, I thought you were using clips shot by Philip himself. The only real difference I noticed was that his footage usually seems locked-off and doesn't have a ton of motion. But honestly, this was great and very thorough. Great job!

Great insight, good video and although Philips “style” doesn’t fit the kind of video I make, both his and your technical mastery are very inspiring. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks Harv - Insightful material as always. The PB style is a favorite of mine also. Other things I've noted with PB is the generally locked down shot. An interesting contrast to the gimbal shots of the younger filmmakers. I like both. Also favor his choice of coloring - seems to favor rich blacks along with what I'd catorigize as "taupe" colored tones (and of course the reds). The orchestral music beds - classic PB. Good luck with your music launch!

The Bloom look??? Don't you mean the 'Corporate Film/TV Look' aka everything has evened in color, brightness, contrast. That's why his documentaries look so good! And that's why he hasn't don many scifi or thriller movies....

I loath that 2.35:1 overly used aspect ratio by most KZbin videomakers. Unless im watching your masterpiece on the biggest Imax screen i don’t care for it, it’s a waste of screen real estate. It’s just pretentious! Other than that, great work! 👌😊
