I had no idea some birds won't eat veggies. I've only had mine for a year and a half, but they eat pellets, veggies, pretty much anything offered. I've switched their pellet type 3 times, attempting to find the right balance between nutrition and waste, and they never refused to eat. (Started with Zupreem FruitBlend, switched to Top's for nutrition, and then Hari Tropican Alternative to stay healthy but with way less wasted food. They seem to be willing to eat any veggies and fruit offered (carrots, leafy greens, broccoli and cauliflower, herbs, berries, banana, etc). Sounds like I got really lucky! They just love eating!

Because of Australia's current bad spring weather, all my garden veggies are seeding. Turns out my conure loves the flowers and seeds from kale,coriander, parsley etc. We just walk around the garden in the morning and I pick her off bits of plant to eat between her screams at the local native cockatoos. 😀

When I adopted a 5yr old conure who didn't have much experience with fresh veggies and primarily ate fruity pellets and fruit, safe to say he didn't like veggies. After I quickly replaced the fruity pellets with non-sugary ones because that was an easy switch (and I didn't want him to go hungry when he was experimenting with veg and trying out bird chop), this is what worked for me on the veggie front: When giving new foods, cut it up into small bits that resemble their pellets. Large bits or a whole piece of anything can be daunting for a smaller bird who doesn't know what it is. My bird was more likely to try it when it was chopped up. Other than corn, peas, and peppers, carrots usually are one of the easier and healthiest veg to get fruit lovers to eat since for a veg, it has some natural sugars that make it more appealing. Green veg was a harder sell. When eating it in front of him didn't work, sometimes I pretend I have a yummy treat in my hand and feed it to him directly in tiny bite size bits, instead of just including it in the chop. When they reject a veg, keep on trying. For some green vegs, it took 6 times for him to start eating it and not outfight rejecting it. Then it was a lot easier to incorporate. Oh and try different parts of the veg. For example, my lovie loves the florets of broccoli but my conure didn't like them, instead he prefers the stalk which is funny but works perfectly. And experiment around with raw vs cooked. Good luck!

how your channel has grown I have been here since 100 subs, and now you have nearly 20k good job keep going and about the veggies, I gave him veggies since he came to my home, but he did come for a pet store and they only gave him seed, so it was hard, but I mixed the veg with his seed and he got a tast of the veg and he loved it.

A fun tip to get ur bird to eat veggies especially if they don’t like them even at the sight of them is to hide very small veggie bits into sunflower seed shells, just to get it into your birds system. This should be a last resort though because we don’t want to stress our birds out if they can get stressed by this. But, I tried this with my sun conure and it works wonderfully

Any updates? My conure still doesn't eat veggies after a year. I've tried different ones and different ways of cutting them. Frozen and fresh but still nothing..
@lynniia2 жыл бұрын
@@elektrapapakosma8144 If your Conure is on a pallet diet and only has seeds as a reward or nuts or something maybe you can try this tip: (I got it from someone I thought it was a wonderful idea but had to learn him to eat his pallets first which was a pain tbh I'm also still learning him to eat his damn veggies😅 ) Make a special bowl or plate for your bird. Like add his fav things like sunflower seeds or almond or any yummy treats and add your veggies that you want him to try eating. He/she will prob search for the yummy treats and will try the veggies in the meantime as well. And ofc try the different sized and textures too! It prob takes a LOT of patients if your birb is picky (I have the same problem) but eventually they will learn to eat it and never give up! 💕
@elektrapapakosma81442 жыл бұрын
@@lynniia I'll try that. One thing that has worked a bit it's crushing the pellets into a powder (we do that anyway only way he eats them) defrost the chop add a little water and mix it together. It has the same consistency as the crushed pellets alone do but with some bigger pieces of veggies here and there. I take him to his play stand and pretend i am eating and slowly let him have some, i continue pretending i eat from his bowl until he doesn't want to eat more.
@elektrapapakosma81442 жыл бұрын
@@lynniia also unrelated but any tips on how to make him start play with toys? He has quite a few, different types too but doesn't touch them.
@lynniia2 жыл бұрын
@@elektrapapakosma8144 I will also recommend putting some pellets in whole or half with the powder so he also tries to eat them whole. Also if you haven't already keep his waterbowl next to his bowl where the pellets are at. Mine likes to eats some pallets with the water to dip them in there. You can also put his fav treats in some foraging toys or any toys where it is possible so he can search for the yummy goodness and he will also interact with the toys in the meantime. And change the toys to different ones after one week having them in the cage for example: I put the woven taco in his cage for a week and after that I switch it up to a bird kabob and do that with all toys or most of them so it doesn't get boring. My bird only touches his woven taco with shredded paper in it after a few months and destroys it after a few days or he will never touch it at all (He also sleeps next to it ALL the time) He also likes some toys with natural rope that he can destroys and some times he also never touch it at all. BUT he LOVES his foot toys.

I feed my flock of 9 the birdtricks seasonal feeding system. For some reason the combo of veggies in their recipes are really good for convincing picky eaters to eat veggies. I've also found that by simply leaving the chop in their cage, and removing their food for at least an hour or two, they're more likely to at least give vegetables a try. Often it's from boredom when they finally try it. My blind birds are the hardest to get into vegetables because birds are very visual eaters. It took me 3 months to get my blind IRN to eat chop, and now shes one of my most consistent chop eaters.

Hi Grace. I know your comment is from ages ago, but did you think the Birdtricks feeding system was worth the money? I ask because I am contemplating buying it, and for me it will be $65 Australian dollars. My partner will be annoyed at me if it isn't worth it! 😒
