Love your videos. Thank you for all the effort you put into making them and the good info you provide! I'm 178 cm tall and 61 kg with all my race gear. I have two Tony Karts, one with an IAME X30 S125 and Komet K2M tyres, the other with a ROTAX MAX EVO and Vega XH3 or XH4 tyres. I'm racing the UAE, so outside temperatures are typically between 30C-40C during the race season. What seat would you suggest under these circumstances?

When you're referencing seat pads, are those a substitute for a rib protector or a supplement? Also, any information on seat position and it's relation to front/rear grip characteristics would be a fantastic video! Love the channel and the help it provides as someone relatively new to karting!
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic 3 жыл бұрын
yeah they are in addition too, good for a final firm fit to the seat if the drivers ribs are a little loose. thanks for the suggestion and also the good vibes 👍

Would be nice to make a video on optimizing the choice of seat by measurements. Jecko for example are mentioning seat sizes specs at ribs,hips and legs. How should pilot measures be taken and does an additional gap should be kept in mind? Thanks!

Another great video! Could you make a "Part II" about seat positioning and adjustment? I have noticed that many fast drivers have their seat in a very "reclined" position. Why? Does that make them faster? Would it make a beginner/weekend-racer faster too? What about kids? We are all more or less beginners in our family (wife and 5yo starting now, while me and 9yo started two years ago) and struggle with seat fitment and positioning.
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic 4 жыл бұрын
thanks broski for the positive vibes. I can tell you that fast drivers are fast because they have done a lot of karting. Similar to Michael Jordan shooting a lot of basketballs. We position our seats with the flat bottom parallel to the chassis rails (just like our seat fitting videos). kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmLGiaqsm7hkZq8 then you can move them forwards or backwards of the centre chassis cross rail depending on your drivers height and weight. No magic tricks, just go to the track more than everyone else and you will become the best version of yourself. Hope that helps

Question; I like the look of the Jecko to stop my legs flopping around but will it change (improve) the kart? Arrow X5 with rotax and 183Kg on the track, first year karting so nil experience to call on. Love the vids, down to earth, full of intel and funny too.
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic 2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t used one myself in an X5. The improvements will come from you going to the track more and testing things, rather than the things themselves IMO. If you like the look, have the budget, then get one, they are good seats. But not if you are so tall or long legged that your legs don’t hit the sides of the seat.

great video! Derek could you do a video how to install a new chain .. how do you determine the length ? Because i gotta take both motor clamps off and tilt the motor backwards to get the chain off..lol any info would be great..thanks
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic 4 жыл бұрын
well, a chain measuring tool is what we use but you have to remove the chain first. otherwise mark on link with a paint pen and start counting, remembering to double the final number i.e a 54 link chain is actually a 108

Excellent video- mostly confirmed the direction I was heading, but I have not been able to try the Ribtect seat anywhere over here in the USA/Texas. I just can't justify buying without trying. At 6'4"/215 lbs, I really need something that holds my body in place. I picked up a birelART AM29 w/ lo206 and the stock freeline seat killed my ribs from flopping around.

Great video Des, just one error to mention. Carbon fiber is NOT super strong , carbon cloth is weaker than fiberglass cloth. Carbon cloth is good for making parts light, but it is definately 100% NOT stronger than fiberglass cloth of the same weight

Great video as usual ! I am curious, when you say that the Tillett T11VG seat is the ticket for OTK drivers in Rotax etc. Which tyre are they typically running. With the new Mojo D5 there is lots of grip and less need for the soft seat. Maybe on D2's or on a slippery track the soft seat would be required? Cheers!

Where/when would you use an IMAF adult sized seat? Which karts do these suit and are they a stiff or soft design? Thanks!
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic 4 жыл бұрын
They have both hard or soft. Get one of each and use them both at your local track. For us, hard seat in cold slippery conditions mostly, and soft seats when it is hot and grippy. Could be different for you and your tyres so try them both IMO. Jecko suit all karts, same for OTK seat or Tillett, mostly user preferences not silver bullets.

@PowerRepublic

@@TEKNOTRONIC954 mmmm not sure on the compensation, other than try the TllVG machine made in a 36cm and maybe just pad it out with the seat foam. that way the seat with the padding will be comfortable and the chassis will still perform like a dream.

Seat comfort was my 1st priority. Mine has 2 inches of memory foam in the seat base, pressure relieving gel surface for that, the sides and back has stiff kart seat foam and its all covered in black PU leather with green stitching. I also remounted the ecu and water pipe behind the seat so i didnt need to have unnecassary bolt heads by using abit of glass fibre to mount bendable brackets onto the rear. Bolt heads for the side mounts are recessed completly into the pads and i cannot feel them at all. Its tight to fit in, and i pop into it when getting in with no room for body movement at all. Once in, its more comfortable than an arm chair. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6ubeoJ5pallgLs. I also mounted it on rubbers underneath the base to the frame mounts, to reduce vibrations being transmitted into the seat instead of the old solid mounts. It weighs a few pounds more than a normal seat, but that shouldnt be a problem as id probably need an extra 20kg adding to make it race legal weight as is, so id prefer to be comfortable than carry lead which does nothing to add to the driving experience.
