Doh, I was trying to do this with particle hair... I didn't realise it was so easy, the right way! ;-)
@FirechildVideo5 жыл бұрын
I played around with particle hair when I was researching this tutorial. That's another way to make it work. I wouldn't call it the wrong way. Something I always tell myself when I sit down to create something in Blender is, "There's more than one way to Blend a scene." There really is no right way, just varying levels of difficulty. The challenge is finding the best result with the least effort. Hopefully that's what I did here today. Thanks for watching! (Shameless promotion ahead) don't forget to like, subscribe and hit the bell notification! Lot's of new stuff coming soon!

Welcome back! I kinda forgot I was subscribed 'till this video popped up. Great work! Simple tutorial with awesome results. Can I suggest using Blender 2.8 for future videos? It's getting close to it's final stage for release so more likely than not Blenderheads will be using the latest version. It's just a suggestion though, still your call. I'm staying subbed either way :)
@FirechildVideo5 жыл бұрын
I will most definitely be making the jump into 2.8 pretty soon. When I originally recorded this tutorial I talked a little about why I'm still using 2.79, but I cut that bit out to save time. Really it just boils down to my comfort level with it. I don't want to be sitting here fumbling around with things like, "Oh, yea... it's left click now" or "Where did they move that tool to?" That'll end up getting annoying for viewers. LOL. My plan right now is to use the remainder of the Beta period getting comfortable in the release and then when the full release arrives hitting the ground running. I'll more than likely be updating a few of my (very) old tutorials in 2.8 as well since this latest release is SO different. 2.8 is the future!

Thanks for this, but ... when I hit Shift Z, at Approx. 4:14 of this video, it does not change to Cycles Render which is important for the curve settings. What am I doing wrong?
@FirechildVideo5 жыл бұрын
Oops. That would be a bad edit on my part. I had to pause the screen capture at one point to cough and I must have switched over to cycles before I started rolling again. SHFT Z toggles you in and out of Render view. To switch over to cycles, click the button on the top of your screen and select "Cycles Render" from the pop up list. It's not important for the curve settings, exactly. It's important for the material settings and render previews. With a slightly different material setup, the same effect can be done with blender internal as well. Apologies for the confusion there.

@@FirechildVideo Thanks so much, I figured the problem out, but wanted to know the shortcut. Thanks a bunch.

Just downloaded Blender last week and your layout is different. As a first time user, I'm having a hard time finding some of these options you are talking about. That "Cycles Render" pull down menu doesn't seem to exist for me.

Nice, please focus on Blender 2.8 Eevee - a game changer :-)
@FirechildVideo5 жыл бұрын
Most definitely. With new releases I typically use the beta period to get familiar and experienced with all the changes before I record tutorials. I like to wait till the official release just in case there are changes between the beta and final release (there almost always are) that way the tutorial has a longer life before needing to be revised. Especially with the drastic changes between 2.79 and 2.8. You are right, though....it's a game changer! Thanks for watching!

This is not the latest version of Blender ....Why TF is my layout always different when i try to do or learn something...i can not find my particle button on Blender 3

Apologies for the confusion. Blender has changed an awful lot since this video was made 4 years ago. I haven't made tutorials in quite a long time, but I'm certainly entertaining the idea of bringing this channel back to life. If I do, updating old tutorials like this one is tops on the list.

@@FirechildVideo May 2024... that would be a great idea and start with this tutorial! I started b3d 6 months ago and am using 4.1. I started this video, and all was going fine until 6:30 on the timeline, "We got some stars". Well my stars were no longer there. I traced back and my steps were the same until we got to the physics tab which has some significant differences. But being the stubborn SOB I am, I will play with it until I can find out what is different with 4.1 and what you have in 2.x Thx!

Lol stars aren’t falling cus gravity settings are turned off. Yeah why not turn off physics as well. Nobody needs that.
