The year difference in the long jing 43 was quite noticeable. The dry aroma of the 2018 was slightly nuttier. The 2019 aroma and taste were brighter, fresher, and greener. The 2018 was much less potent in the cup compared to the 2019 but still good. Thanks for the great flight box! Going to revisit the cultivar differences again before I can confidently comment on that, they’re all great though

Long Jing 43 from the box set is my favorite green tea so far! Superb flavor and effects for a great tea meditation! My gratitude to you, Don, and to every person along the chain of wonderful people who have brought that wonderful experience here and all the insights as well. The tea is so much more than just some leaves in a cup when we become part of the growing, harvesting, preparing and sharing with you. Thank you!

One of the major tasting notes I had when trying Jesse's Teahouse 2023 Longjing was roasted pumpkin seeds. I 'dont like' green teas but after watching this video I was able to understand the flavors of the Longjing tea better and I felt less dumb lol I feel so Cultured now 😂

I did the second tasting with this flight box and this time with porcelain gaiwan and tea cups, and I found everything completely different than brewing into clay hohin and shiboridashi; the clay did change the flavor and aroma of the tea. The only similar thing was, I got tea drunk after the first flush...after that....everything taste the same.....I love to be tea drunk...ha,ha... Hope to have two more gaiwans for next week and finally do the final tasting...

Thank you for the video! Maybe you could do a video on how tea industry in general works and who are the people that actually make the top shelf tea. Are those the same people that sell low grade tea aswell? What about the "middle" industry? There are a lot of websites that sell tea that is whole leaf but very low quality in taste. What if someone messes up a batch, could they redesign it into something else and then sell it somewhere online as high quality tea? A lot of people do not know anything about tasting or how something should taste and think that if its whole leaf it must be good.

As a general guide, is it better to buy tea leaves harvested in say, 2018 than 2019? Can I also say 2018 leaves are more expensive than 2019?

The only long jing I've tried was from Chunan, from 100 year old quntizhong plants at 1.300mosl, from April. It was so ugly, wild and plump. It was one of those teas that are too good to enjoy the flavour, to like them or dislike them. You just admire them so much forever without reason. It was also the tea that has given me the strongest tea high I've had. You drank for half an hour without notticing and suddenly everything was so weird, fun, sacred and even dissociative

How did you store the 2018 Long Jing 43? There would be a huge difference between storing at more or less ambient temperatures and freezing the tea @ 0 F (-18 C). Here in hot / humid south Florida, I have found storing green teas @ below freezing in screw top glass containers preserves almost all the flavors/textures of green teas for over 3 years.

Good tidbit of information. I'll keep it in mind. But... One must be very cautious about the condensation that will, not might, will, form on the container And on the leaf if not allowed to come to room temperature unopened. Allso a risk is the moisture present in the air during freezing which might condense on the leaf. Very risky and might ruin the tea. How do you prevent these problems? I can't bear the thought of having to toss good tea out

Can you please tell me what is the effect of polluted air and water on tea? I am afraid that it is significant and therefore I am afraid of some teas. I like Long Jing but unfortunately it is grown right next to the big city of Hangzhou where air and water pollution is rated high.

Remember folks that this video is 4 years old and they don’t supply this pack anymore, so this video is superfluous to say the least and should’ve been taken down if they were serious about wanting customers to go to their web page and order tea. Their old videos are both great and informative, but lately become rather silly and hardly informative any more. Disappointed to find this.

Don, I have a serious question that I've been trying to ask everywhere with no answers yet, so I really hope you have the time to find this comment deep in your archives of comments: China has extraordinarily poor health standards for food production. The water in the country is contaminated with so many microbes and factory waste. It's so bad to the point where people there literally cannot drink tap water, let alone natural sources. This is common knowledge. However, I have never heard about this in regards to tea production which would, I assume, to fall into the same terrible health standards as the rest of China's produce. I understand that China is the king of tea since it was first discovered, but can we really trust what comes out of Chinese soil at this point in time? Obviously, you can't pasteurize or pre-boil the leaves or else you'd ruin them, so how do farmers cleanse their leaves of the filth that they grow in and are sprayed with? Am I drinking heavy metals and carcinogens from my local tea shop's supply? I know they get it wholesale from a Chinese vendor in the bigger city nearby, and that it does, in fact, come from China. If you ever find this comment, thank you so much for your time in reading it, I feel as though you are the only person left who would be able to answer this question from a professional standpoint

Hi Connor. I think that a bit of perspective is required here to get a deeper understanding of everything. China has big issues with pollution in urban areas but China is so, so big and the countryside and mountains are some of the most idyllic and pure places that I have ever witnessed with the purest water and soil. So please do not think that all of China is affected like urban areas. Of course it is worth being cautious and trying to select tea from good sources and there will be tea on the market which has been sprayed but the same applies to most tea countries (I have seen so much more spraying in Japan and Taiwan than I have witnessed in China for example). Regarding heavy metals, again this relates mainly to proximity to urban areas and would be the same for any fruits and vegetables but unlike vegetables, the great thing about tea is that the right terroirs is in the mountains which tend to be farther away from those places.

LOL I bet the you've never drank a pot of Chinese spring harvest dragonwell tea picked 2 days before consumption, flown out here with fedex next day air. I bet you've never had tea so fresh that it awakens your senses and instantly catapults you into a deeply satisfying mind space. For me? That’s normal. That’s a regular day for me. I do it so much I probably couldn’t fit all the fresh, expensive tea leaves I’ve had in the second floor of the Queen's castle. you couldn’t get on my level even if you tried. My tastebuds are too advanced for you and the same tea that tastes like music to my tongue probably tastes like grass to you. that is all.
