FYI most seeds do not (require) light to germinate but it does not hinder germination. The reason you cover them is to keep the humidity high. Bottom heat also helps. There is a hemp product that also comes in a roll that can be cut to grow micro greens in.

I did a cost analysis of the mats I got from city hydro and it costs about $3 per tray (18x24 I think) A huge cost when you think about it. You should also consider adding a little Azomite to your soak water. I use RO water too but RO lacks minerals thus even more need to use Azomite or similar product.

Thanks, I am planning to start a business growing microgreens!, some folks make a lot of money delivering to restaurants, in a very large city. I am also in a large city, but I will actually sell to the public mostly. Fresh microgreens. Not even plucked, unless they want it plugged and then I will go north like New Jersey or New York maybe chicago and plant there in home and build an underground green house. A very large scale greenhouse! But I will not leave my customers in the place that I live now! Never! My microgreen business will never go under mass production that is unhealthy. That is the reason to grow microgreens, super compact healthy greens that can be grown extremely quickly
