So I'm 20 days into this journey, and I gotta say it requires a great deal of dedication to learn this move. Even though I'm fairly lean, it still took a beating on my wrists and shoulders. After 20 days, I finally learned the finger press and release Chris was talking about, and I was actually able to hold it without the wall for 5 seconds! Some tips for beginners is -making sure you strengthen and stretch your wrists and shoulders daily (Fitness FAQs has great content on specific movements) -fully master each progression before moving on to the next. It's very tempting but developing that strength will result in better form in future progressions. -Be patient and remain consistent in your effort to master the Handstand. You're going to want to give up at times, but stay persistent and the results will come. Hope that helps! Will update once I get full 10 second Handstand Update: So it has been around 50 days now since this journey began and I finally held the handstand for 20 seconds! For me, once I figured out balancing between my palms and fingers, I was able to find that sweet spot in between where it seemed almost effortless to keep myself up. My kickups are still not perfect, but they are slowly becoming more consistent. I get a good kickup once every 2-3 tries. I think I will be able to reach a 1 minute handstand within another month and start learning the Handstand Pushup soon.

@@xavierjacomealarcon1637 I think I practiced pretty much every day except maybe 1 or 2 to let my wrists recover. I only practiced for around 20-30 mins daily so that I could keep the skill fresh in my mind while not overdoing it and becoming too sore for the next day.

Man i am stuck on the kick. I mean every time I kick, I feel like my body is straight and then hold the position for about 2 seconds. But when I take a recording, I see that my legs do not reach the top. if I use too much momentum I fall forward. Do you have any tips?
@MrGypsyTown4 жыл бұрын
@@vanitas8582 Assuming you are kicking up with your hands starting from the ground, a tip that really helped me was to have my shoulders directly above my hands when starting the kickup motion. Another useful tip is to emphasize pointing your toes as soon as you kickup. This actually helps activate your core muscles, thus making balancing a bit easier. If these tips don't help you much, then I'd recommend spending time kicking up against the wall.

I have significant upper body strength and have extremely low body weight. I have been doing handstand pushups with the support of a wall since a year but i havent been able to attain balance. Or mainly i never focused on it. I just held a handstand for 10 seconds through your technique and it feels really amazing. I dont know if a handstand requires proper straight elbows cause i could never properly fully straighten my elbows since i was born. This may be a limiting factor but..who knows.
I was not able to hand stand despite training for the past 6 months!, but I did my first hand stand against the wall just from the smallest tip in the video which was looking down at the floor! it was the key for me to find the balance upside down, now am trying to balance without touching the wall! I’ve been trying to learn for 4 months. Although I’ve improved significantly, I was still having trouble getting off the wall. I have watched soooo many videos on it on YT on Hand stand. This is by far one of the best videos that I have ran into. It has answered so many of of questions, that I’ve been searching for. Thank you so much!

I love this! It's so good that you have progression criteria like holding for 20-30 seconds or being able to do 15 consec reps so we know when we can progress. Will give these a go!

Thanks Chris! I started practicing handstands a few days ago. Your tip about using your fingers to control your forward or backwards momentum was key! In alot of ways it's like snowboarding, slight shifts in your ankle are what cause you to turn, slow, or catch an edge. ;)

Chiss I love u, I've been watching your videos and you're my inspiration for real, when I started to do the tips was really difficult for me to do the first exercise but I keep consistent and today I could stand, against the wall but was A step for me just for the fact that I keep consistent. I u for real. ❤❤ *Apologies for my English in case of any grammar mistake *

I remember a year ago in algorithm bringing up one of your videos and I saw you but didn't watch your video. I was in my ego at the time and I was like who is this skinny guy making KZbin videos. I've been bodybuilding and powerlifting for 30 years and I am humbled by you. I thought it was impressive that I could deadlift 500 pounds for 10 reps in military press 225 for 10 reps and squat 415 for 15 reps and I have to say none of that is really impressive. What you do is impressive. And you and a few other KZbinrs who do calisthenics have helped to change my life because I am no longer in egotistical bodybuilder and I am humbly becoming a man who loves calisthenics. Thank you for playing a role not just in my physical development but in my Spiritual Development
