Is there “hot mud” that you’d recommend?
@diywithcontractorken.61245 күн бұрын
@@junearras8643 90 minute hot mud from Home Depot or Lowe’s is what I use. It’s fine. I don’t like 40 minutes. It doesn’t give you enough time. Make sure you give yourself enough time to clean up your tools with the hose before it set up.
@NathanCobb-u1lАй бұрын
When you used hot mud to fill the gap between the drywall and shower walls, did you apply the double layer of mesh on top of the of wet mud, or did you let the original hot mudding bed dry before applying the mesh tape? Also, was your first coat of mud that covering the mesh tape next to the shower walls and corners a light mud topper, or was it another layer of hot mud?
@diywithcontractorken.6124Ай бұрын
@@NathanCobb-u1l Yes mesh tape on top of the wet hotmud. It won’t stick when the hotmud is dry. First coat of mud was hotmud but if you done have much experience you might want to stick with topping.

If there's a place in the ceiling of the shower where paper has separated from sheet rock n hanging down, can I just cut off the hanging paper n skim the spot with spot potty then paint. I'm gonna re seam seal stand up shower before painting, Thoughts also on good ceiling paint for shower/,bathroom water resistant paint that's not a fortune. S/W has the Duration matte. 100 bux min a gallon which would do entire bathroom. That's expensive but I gotta replace sheet rock from floor up a ft atleast around water lines so cutting holes in sheet rock etc.

Sum1 already installed a small shower, ceiling is bubbling up. I wanna remove it n put up cement board. Stand up is 32x52 i think. 32 is correct. How do i install cement board only on the ceiling they are 3x5ish so perfect size. Just rip off old sheet rock ceiling and install the cement board n caulk n paint??? Ideas please. It's a 32x41 base. So your sayn I could leave old sheer rock up n just repair n skim coat bad area n seal good n then paint with the stain n mold water resistant paint? That would be OK to do? I just went in there to measure stand up shower n look at the ceiling again, it's not horrible after I cleaned everything. Looks like I paper from sheet rock split n rolled down a bit. I could cut that look paper off, leaving sheet rock n glaze it? Would that be OK. THEN paint away with good water resistant paint. Sorry to bug ya
@diywithcontractorken.6124Ай бұрын
@@chuckaaron2014 ok so yes you must remove the old Sheetrock. If you use cement board the you will need to tape and finish like regular Sheetrock. You will need to skim the entire sheet of cement board and sand and finish like regular Sheetrock because cement buses is tough and unfinished looking.

Im confused. Why didn't you mesh tape the dry wall where it meets the shower flange before mudding?? Or did you off camera cause I dont see tape
@diywithcontractorken.612427 күн бұрын
@@NeSsA0aLani I did. I first prefilled the gap then mesh taped it then put the first coat of mud on.

It's not gonna be perfect anyways, unless i remove the base etc.. not gonna happen!! It's a small projecr job for a friend. Its not in a house but a lil room approximately 350 sq ft with bathroom. Kinda like an office. I think thats what it originally was but living in here i want it somewhat right. I'll be redoing the room. I think this person must have smoked 5 pks a day. Lots of cleaning in living area but im starting in bathroom. I got stand up cleaned and sanitized, its just ceiling is bubbling in shower. All the water n steam i noticed no fan in bathroom as well which I'll install. Ideas on ceiling quickest and cheapest way. Im sure i could figure it out n caulk n paint ceiling. Any help thoughts would be great Thanks

@@chuckaaron2014 maybe scrape it good then slap 1 skim coat of mud on it, sand smooth then a coat of kills original. Kills original covers anything!

Sorry to bug ya, again, the rest of the bathroom walls, mainly lower portion are missing and or cut off idk why. But its blk bubbled nasty AF looking around all water valves. Should i replace that with new regular sheet rock and paint with the good resistance paint. This person was nasty dear lord, i don't judge but i have eyes n im smart. Im a bit ocd, i have to have it done properly, to an extent....lol. any tile floor ideas, the grout is broken, very old and need new flooring. None are broke just the grout nasty between tiles. I atleast want to be able to stay here if needed. So i have to have it clean and sanitized. Should tile be removed and redone, id put peel n stick over em...lol Thanks for quick response

@@chuckaaron2014 sounds like there could be mold behind the Sheetrock. If so then you should test it out and replace with green board.

@@chuckaaron2014 maybe try scrubbing the tiles with a heavy duty cleaner to turn the grout lines white again. Maybe a cleaner with some bleach in it. Might have to match the grout color and regrout after it’s clean .
