If you want to install this hardwire kit and NOT needing it constantly powered, then just connect the fuse tap to a 12V ignition power source (instead of constant 12V). Doing it this way will have the dashcam turn off when you ignition is off.

That's the best video I ever seen on here to due stuff, I'm a backyard MECHANIC a DIY to save money, I learned from a very young age due to my father working for GM or General Motors just in case no 1 knows what it means, i took 3 years of AUTOMOTIVE CLASS at my HIGHSCHOOL and we had a Voc Tech school next door that most attended for 1 thing or another. You my friend explained tjis wiring system perfect and the best way, even I might of made the mistake of putting the wire into the fuse panel BACKWARDS, now after WATCHING this, I'll make sure that don't hapoen at all. I wished all dash camera companies offered these setups to buy seperate, I've been looking for awhile but dash cams are a 50/50 on a good one, the one I'm looking at now threw CNET in march of 2018 has it listed at i tjink 3.9 out of 5 stars and 1153 review's, thats great, I have and older vehicle and as of 6/1/2018 my STATE will be HANDS FREE DEVICES FROM CELL PHONE'S to GPS, They are sending out the entire FORCE threwout the STATE TO GIVE TICKETS OUT, THEY EVEN STATED THAT THEY WILL BE IN UNMARKED VEHICLE'S ALSO TO SEND THE MESSAGE THAT IT'S AGAINST THE LAW NOW. THATS RHODE ISLAND NOW. SO PASS THE WORD ON AND NO BREAKS ON TICKETS AT ALL, THEY MADE THAT CLEAR. SO Having a DASH CAM that I'm tired of calling the POLICE BY CELL PHONE due to reckless drivers thats driving real bad and almost hit me, I call and its the same story, I'll get someone out there when mo one is in the middle of doing there JOB, I once stated so why are there 2 POLICE cars just sitting in the parking lot now where we just drove by and car slowed down, they said there all tied up on calls, i state thats bs because there sitting and drinking coffee because you csn see threw windshields of car, I blow the horn and point but nothing, POLICE dispatch don't send out mgs fast in my city, once we had 4 cars blicking our road and couldn't leave, my wife got out to find out whats up and 1 car was brojen, so we asked if the other cars can move, 1 guy grabbed my wife by her throat and there was 4 big guys with gang tattoos that looked SCARY, well i gunned my SUV at HIM as my wife was looking into my eye's, the guy let go and i tryed to hit him and dialed 911, well 25 minutes later, they showed up and all gone, even the broke down car from tow truck. Just us and neighbor's bitching that we caused the problems with there GUEST, they didn't want to hear it, a dash cam would if showed all player's involved WITH license plates and their faces also, yeah it wouldn't be us causing problems but them causing the problems and what we stated was true and wasn't a lie and good thing they didn't have a knife or a gun or maybe they did and got out, I was not happy and nervous for my FAMILY after that. Been looking for dash cams even HARDER since, most don't work very well, sent a few back because they don't show much and hard to make out, unlike a home surveillance camera you can freeze frame each shot and blow it up to get the face or a license plate. I thought of buying a gopro since there a top CAMERA but over kill for ny needs, I would of but i found out the BATTERY only last up to 40 minutes to 1 hour or so, that's no good for dash cam at $400 or rvevenen the $299 one. So Again I thank you for this and I'm gonna look at the camera you have that you hooked up, if I like it then I'll go with it but I'm leaning on the other 1, they even show the negative on it, you must shut off when parked or put in parking mode and the screen will stay on unless you setup the screen saver for 30 seconds or longer, if not yhen continues with screen on, the camera still records if it gets bumped & records until you stop it. Again best VIDEO I seen yet with the best step by step how to install and very clear on it. Its wasn't rushed or nothing like that. GREAT JOB TO WHO EVER DID THE VIDEO UNLESS YOU DID IT TO THEN GREAT JOB, NO ISSUE'S AT ALL WITH CAMERA GOING OFF OR GETTING DROPPED. I'VE SEEN SOME GOOD VIDEO'S FROM BIG COMPANIES THATS SELLING CAR PARTS AND NEVER TO MY VEHICLE OR EVEN TO THE KIND LIKE FORD STYLE, IT MIGHT BE ON A TOYOTA, NOT THE SAME IDEA'S WHEN THINGS ARE DIFFERENT ON CERTAIN THING'S.

Thank you. That is very informative. I bought a hard wire kit for the dash cam that I'm about to install in my daughters car. I asked at the shop if it was easy to install and their technician said that it was. All I had to do was find the wiring under the bonnet (hood) with constant power and switched power as well as an earth. When I opened the kit, it was very similar content wise to yours. Having watched your video, it is a much easier job using the fuse box than he intimated. My only difficulty is there is the tighter space in a Skada Fabia 3 fuse box. I'll take a look at hard wiring my own dash cam too, which has a different connection on the power lead.

I have a question about the crimping wires part. Do you only put in the exposed metal into the add a fuse area? Or do you just put in the wire all the way till you couldn't go anymore?
@dial2fast5 жыл бұрын
When you crimp a wire, you first have to strip the end about 1/4" to expose the wire. Then insert the wire into the crimp connector until part of the wire's insulation is also in the crimp connector (so no bare wires exposed on the outside to cause any short). The bare wire should be inside the metal part of the crimp connector, then use the tool to crimp it down.

Well explained. I made the mistake of populating one fuse socket on the piggy back cable, on connecting to central locking fuse. Camera worked fine, but I couldn't lock my car! Soon realised why. The cables did not with any instructions. May be obvious, but do not use a fuse that is connected to critical systems, eg. ABS brakes, or engine management systems.

When you park your car and turn the car off, how it starts to record parked: 1) when you hit the door and the sensor detects the movement and starts recording (Parking mode), or 2. It doesn't stop recording all the way until you power off the dashcam manually? Thanks.

Great video. When adding the second fuse to the fuse tap does the fuse need to be the same amperage as the existing one that was pulled out?
@dial2fast6 жыл бұрын
The fuse rating that came from the factory must remain the same. The other fuse that you are using to power the dashcam can be one suitable for your aftermarket accessory. I know these hardwire kits come with a 10A fuse and most dashcams only requires 250-500mA to power. You can put in a smaller fuse if you want for the accessory. So the two fuses you install in the fuse tap does not have to be the same.

Why is it important what side the add a fuse device is facing or which one is left or right? Is it so that the fuse will take the surge if there is one and not go straight to the dash cam?

Because when you look at the 'add a fuse', there is an input side and there is an output side for the accessory you are connecting to. If you flip it opposite to what I showed you in the video, you will connect the output side of the add a fuse to the input side of the factory fuse box, therefore the accessory you are connecting will always have power without passing current through the add a fuse.

The box is sending 5V and 2A to the camera because that is what the USB spec says and the camera is powered by a USB plug. The box is accepting 12V 10A from the fuse tap and monitoring the voltage coming from the battery and will turn off power to the camera if the voltage from the battery gets too low. This is so the camera doesn't just totally drain the car battery if you leave it on for an extended period without driving (like at the airport or something). He is using the 10A fuse because that was what came with the hardware kit (the little box).

Thank you. Really informative and well-explained video. I did have a question though. How do you know which fuse tap is appropriate for your car? I bought a dash cam that came with hard-wiring cables, but no fuse-taps, so I'm realizing I will have to order some, but I'm not sure which type to order.

Go look at your fuse box and see what fuse type your car uses. Then order the appropriate fuse tap (see buying links in the video description).

Hi, i just want ask to ask when the car is parked on parking mode and sense something and turn on start recording.. You mentioned you have manually switch off it doesnt automatically switch off. Its will drain a battery?
@dial2fast4 жыл бұрын
The manually turning on/off of the dashcam is to do with the way this particular dashcam operates. Many dashcams will record the parking mode events and automatically shut down, and go back into standby mode. The hardwire kit will provide power the dashcam and once it reaches the cutoff voltage, it will shut the output voltage off to prevent further draining of the car battery.

Great video, but where do you hide the Power box?
@dial2fast4 жыл бұрын
Just tuck it under the dash and tie it up with some zip ties.

I have dash cams, rearview dash cam, radar detector and dedicated power pack for dash cams, and I'd like to hardwire all these items. How many fuses can I tap (pull) from the fuse box? Also, does it affect the operation of the car electronic components? Thank you. Great content. Thank you for your contribution.

Hey, I found a hardwire kit that has a build in battery protection that stops at about 12.4 Volts. I’ve got a brand new car and want to hardwire my car. But I have two concerns: do new cars have problems with something’s that is constantly draining the battery? 2. how long would it record until it shuts off? I’ve got a AZDOME gs63h. Never used the parking mode but on my new car I want it to always be on. I’ll even add a back camera for the cam since i don’t want to mess with the oem rear view cam.

Some new cars will monitor battery drain and give you a message on the dash telling you of this. An example is the Hyundai / Kia vehicles. You can still install dashcam and other accessories. It will just have that message on the dash. As to how long parking mode will run for, it depends on the type of dashcam, how many channels, how the parking mode record the video (time lapse, impact, motion). Also the runtime depends on the health of your car battery. If your battery cutoff is 12.4v, with a 2 channel dashcam, you might get 2-4 hours of parking mode runtime.

What's the other, circular cable that's plugged in to the left of the USB power cable on the dash cam?

Really good video. Yours is the third I’ve watched, and the only one that gave me full confidence in doing this myself. Thank you! Off to buy the kit now.

The kit i have already has a 5amp fuse. Where i want to place it currently has a 20amp fuse. Would that be a problem having two fuses like this? Thank you.
@dial2fast4 жыл бұрын
No problem. Install the factory 20A fuse in the bottom slot on the fuse tap, then keep the 5A fuse in the top slot. So the factory circuit still uses the original 20A fuse.

Is there a certain fuse I can tap into that will turn the cam on and off automatically with ignition but still record with parking mode if someone backs into my car?
@Mixwell19834 жыл бұрын
No there isn't, the power is either constantly on or only on when the key is in the accesory position.

Good video. The only thing I don't like is the need to manually switch the dashcam on & off every time the vehicle is used because of the need for permanent power for the Parking/Motion monitor.
