Peeling nails can be frustrating in their appearance but also when trying to wear gel polish. The peeling layers easily peel off and often take portions of your manicure with it. In this video I will show you how to prepare your nails for gel polish and safely remove the peeling layer of nail. I'll also talk about what causes this type of damage to the nail and how to get rid of it.
Causes for peeling nails:
Frequent wetting and drying of the nails
Vitamin and/or mineral deficiencies
Removing polish too often
Difficult or rough removal of polish
Damage or trauma to the nail plate
Overly dry nails
Fungal infection
Always speak to a doctor if you are concerned about your nail health.
Thank you to my amazing GelMoment team member, Amy Unger for her help with this video and for allowing me to show how to heal peeling nails using her nails. Also thank you to Sara Lynn for her help with sharing her pictures of her peeling nails.
Colors used:
Keepsake
Clearly Frisky
Stardust

Great tutorial! I’ve been using GelMoment since November of 2015 but sometimes still have this issue because my nails have always been that way.

Thanks for this! My nails peel especially during/after winter, and it is the number one cause of my GelPolish manicures flaking off. Fortify and Repair have helped a bit. I was too scared to actually file the peeling bits off, but now I will carefully try.

I found that using 1 or 2 coats of Gel extend was very helpful before the polish. The key is proper nail prep for sure. This way your can grow out and eventually file away the length with the damaged growth. I 'm 6 months off of salon nails and two months using Gel Moment products. My nails are recovering really well now. Your videos are so helpful. Thank you.

I would use a clear nail polish. Sorry, I hate red and red lipstick.

My nails are sooo soft and peeling that I’m beyond help recommended here! 🤣 too thin to use gel. Plus I fast forwarded through the four minutes of nail filing to remove the peeling edge. I use a nail buffer to file the edge-that’s how thin and peeling my nails are. I’d change the name of the video maybe to indicate that it’s for gel or whatever that product is you’re recommending. Gee I’m gel-ous of those gal’s nails! 🤭

I would recommend speaking with a doctor. Our nails are often the first sign that something else might be wrong. With thin nails it could be a vitamin deficiency or a sign of something else. I’d just recommend bringing it up with your doctor.

Which product do you use for removal? You likely have very dry nails too so I would recommend the remover pads and allow to soak for the full 10 minutes before you begin removing. I have a few other videos on removal. Check out my playlists and you’ll see them there.
