In this video I walk you through step by step on how to achieve a bright blonde WITHOUT USING BLEACH! I am allergic to bleach so when I found a hi-lift hair color solution that worked for me I was ecstatic! In this demonstration I lighten my grown out roots with hi lift color and then apply a toner to cancel out the remaining warmth. I also explain how in the next session we will pull the hi lift color over this warmth and it will lighten it up to a pale blonde like the ends.

Thank you so much for this video. I have been using Redken flashlift and shades EQ toner for a few years now but have been wanting to get away from bleaching. Love the color you did!

This was super helpful! Thank you! Can I make a request please? I’d like a tutorial on creating a teased root touch up with highlift, to blend in with my natural base. Like a super blended rooty balayage but no root shadow.

Good suggestion! It would be a little more difficult for me to find a model to do that with hi lift. I can definitely do it with bleach on a mannequin but that hair is treated so hi lift won’t work. I can look for models but in the meantime do a bleach one and explain the differences!

how come i have never not once heard of a stylist suggesting using color on root grow out over bleach until your video? i don't get it

A lot of stylists are afraid of hi lift! I was one of them for a while. It’s only doable when the natural hair is a level 6 or above or else your results will be orangey. I developed an allergy to bleach so I started experimenting with it and learned how to use it properly!

Really interesting! Thank you for the video. So does high lift colour slightly lighten previously coloured hair as you say the next time you bring the colour through the mid lengths it takes it to the more ashy tone on the bottom?
@haveagoodhairday
@haveagoodhairday 6 күн бұрын
I’ve noticed it lightens the hair if Demi permanent was used prior! And it will only budge this the second time around, not produce significant lift again. It won’t lighten through permanent color at all unfortunately.

Thank you for sharing your video! I would have started applying on zone 2 right before the last lifting session and to roots last so no orange band occurs. I found that 12/81 has the best neutralizing properties. I however converted to bleach and tone after a few years of highlift because bleach with 15vol doesn’t burn my scalp as much as highlift with double 40 and lifts cleaner. Also the ammonia was too much for me to tolerate, and low bleach doesn’t fume as much. Are you allergic to persulfates?
@haveagoodhairday
@haveagoodhairday Ай бұрын
If it was bleach I would have applied to zone 2 first but hi lift doesn’t work like that since it’s a color not bleach! That zone 2 wouldn’t have gotten brighter if it had been on longer, only if it had more heat to open the cuticle wider. And yes I’ve used 12/81 before as well! I have done an allergy test and they couldn’t pin point what I am allergic to, but I cannot use bleach at all on my scalp unfortunately. My whole face swells up and it’s pretty terrifying! No problems with traditional color or hi lift though so this seems to be the best option for me.

Is it safe to use high lift on a regular basis to do roots? I have fine naturally curly hair and used high lift to get blonde from light brown dark blonde hair. I used ion ash blonde to do the root with 30 volume developer

I really appreciate your knowledge thank you. So I put a Wella infinity (mixed 7 and 8) pearl on my colored hair that had so much warmth. My hairdresser added some highlights (bleach) but it was all just too Orange yellow. My hair really sucked in the Wella deposit color and it was too dark. it’s been a week and I have been using clarifying shampoo, and violet shampoo. I’m probably at a level. 7 with lots of warmth. Would you suggest a color remover first? I really want to use the high lift color violet in hopes that I can get rid of the orange. I could test first. Do you think 30volume would work or 40 volume? I don’t really want to be blonde but not orange toned! My roots are grey (1/4”) could I put this on my hair all at once? Any suggestions appreciated.

Unfortunately hi lift will only work on virgin hair. Since you already applied color, you’ll need to use bleach to lighten the orange out. Once the orange has been lightened out with bleach, you can then add a toner to the shade you’re looking for!

If you have dark hair and want to lighten without bleach but aren't necessarily wanting light blonde could you use a highlift and mix with a regular color? I understand its not using as intended and outcome would be less predictable especially on dark hair that lightens to orange just wonder if they are compatible enough for mixing
@haveagoodhairday
@haveagoodhairday 3 ай бұрын
It would likely depend on the brand! I like to step outside of the rules as well, but I’d suggest doing a test strand to be safe. Try one with them mixed, and try another where you lighten with hi lift first and then tone down with the color. I’d use 40 vol for the hi lift and 6 or 10 vol for the color/toner!

What!😮 We can use 40vol and highlift on roots. I mean many hairdressers say that you cannot use 40vol with hilift on roots. What could be the reason?
@haveagoodhairday

000 will produce raw lift and expose the warm underlining pigment on virgin hair only if it’s used by itself. It’s usually mixed with other colors to sheer them out by reducing some of the added pigment
