Running and cold doesn't bother me , biggest challenge I find is the wind. Absolutely hate it 😂

Same i quite like going out when it's cold out. The wind though? Its the worst. 😂

This day confirms that for me too haha - the wind was INSANE

Hate the wind also, but cold is the biggest challenge where I live. Sometimes it gets so cold that breathing becomes difficult. I Have to wear a scarf or some kind of cloth in front of my mouth so that the cold air wont hurt my throat/lungs. So january-february is only easy runs for me if I want to run outside.

My biggest fitness adversary at this time of year is winter illnesses. Getting cold/flu, just about recovering from it, and then getting another bug massively hits my consistency, and my sleeping pattern. I find at this time of year overall fatigue is so much higher and recovery is so much harder.

It can be really tough huh, especially (from what I have seen) if you have children as schools seem to act as a Petri dish for illness.... Quality sleep, nutrition, habits, and sensible training adjustments are all we can control around the challenges of this, I've had a bit of cold the last few weeks and it doesn't half sap you!

I love winter adventures, don't have any friends to have them with though xD I wish Britain was consistently icy/snowy enough to use traction tools on the road. Normally it's just black patches of death then bare tarmac. Need to do some more trailrunning, I've been tempted to put my trail shoes in my race vest, carry them to the nearby trails and then swap as needed.

With over 45 years of running experience out in the mountains and weather elements carry a pair of skiing goggles with you when out in the hills can come in handy especially when in a whiteout and hailstones 👍
@ferguscrawley952 ай бұрын
Absolutely, I've just moved house so couldn't find mine - and this was the forecast for the following day so got a little caught out, hence turning around for safety's sake rather than hitting the full loop!

@ferguscrawley95 very sensible Fergus, sometimes you have to make the right decision at the right time. Enjoy your channel and content to, as a aging athlete I have adopted the Hybrid athlete approach to training now especially carrying a injury myself at the moment to.

really useful video. i had what i call an "adventure" last weekend when i was on a long run during storm bert in the moorlands around where i live.. safety as you say is paramount but if i am honest i did enjoy battling the elements 🙂

I'm 3 months out from my 50 mile ultra. However, is it more important to be able to do the big miles on a Sunday, or run a shorter distance but do all the miles off road to mimic the race?

‘Disregarding females’ has a time and a place? Care to elaborate? I’d like to know the context because that comment worries me, as a female follower of yours who feels generally threatened by the narrative towards us online and in politics these days.
@ferguscrawley95Ай бұрын
It’s purely in reference to the narrative of focusing solely on yourself and not looking for a partner/the pursuit of one as a focus/dating etc - which IMO can have a time and place if you’re starting a business/training for something demanding etc, as examples. It was purely a passing comment in the context of the ‘locking in, bro’ narrative that has developed recently around ‘The Winter Arc’ on social media, where the message is to just focus solely on your own development. There also used to be a mid 2010 phrase of ‘disregard females, acquire more gains’ which was intended to hammer home that lifting to get jacked/training hard should be for the individual rather than in the pursuit of a partner/partners. And became a bit of a point of pride for some people (wrongly, arguably 😂) that they weren’t ’distracted’ by anything other than their focus in the gym. So thank you for the prod as there wasn’t enough context given - but the broader point is I think there can be a time and a place for getting your head down and blocking out other pursuits to focus on something singular, but only strategically for short periods of time. A similar concept to ‘’monk mode’ which has also become popular online. Hope that clears things up 🫡
@Nayz13Ай бұрын
@ Thankyou Fergus, that does clear it up. To be honest, my heart sank (I actually unsubscribed) when you said it because I do consider you to be one of the intelligent fitness influencers on here and I worried you’d become part of the internet bro culture that is hell bent on hating women at the moment. So Thankyou for taking the time to explain, it’s appreciated. I absolutely understand the need to focus priorities in life. I will continue to follow you.
