yes, in england, we pronounce it ‘rooter’. hilarious, i know..
@pim19437 жыл бұрын
But isn't it the Brits that pronounce the word route properly, and the Americans that say root? (route as in a way or course taken in getting from a starting point to a destination.)
@ShadowCorgo7 жыл бұрын
What's hilarious is when Americans try to correct a Brit. It's fine to have your own way of saying things but when you're trying to correct the people who created the language, it's a bit stupid. When someone makes a game and people change the rules around to have a bit of fun it's okay. What's not okay is when the people who changed the rules around start saying that their rules are the official way of playing the game and say that the base rules, the ones that the creator made, are wrong, it's just stupid. Now I don't see many Brits correcting Americans but I do see alot of Americans correcting Brits. American pronounciations are fine, but don't make jokes about the original way the words are supposed to be spelled and pronounced.
@Ray035957 жыл бұрын
Route-Some Americans say "root", some say "rowt", depends on where you are in the states. Router- pronouncing it "rowter" is a nationwide thing. @Joseph Mateo Nobody is making fun of brits or saying they are wrong, who even did that. if anything Brits enter endless debates with Americans about football vs soccer, to the point it's ridiculous. Either way, who cares. When a language migrates even to a different state/district/province it's bound to change.
@ShadowCorgo7 жыл бұрын
Ray03595 "Rooter lol making me laugh" "Rooter" "Rootuh" "Hehe rooter" "Rooter. I love a good Rooter." "ROOTER" Some of the comments on this video. Well then it may only happen to me, but it is very common to see or hear. Yes, there are variations of languages. There are many dialects of the languages. However, the changes between British English and American English is too small to have been worth changing. Again, it's fine to have the differences, but it's extremely annoying when people will do things like make fun of the others. Like you said, Soccer and Football. There was no need for people to start going "hehe rooter" and whatnot but they did, which is annoying. In a different language I might pronounce things wrong which sounds funny and will evoke a laugh which is understandable. What's wrong is the pronounciations easily being the same thing and understood yet being made fun of anyway.

Same here, I guess Nintendo throttles their band width. Funny I have a 400 Mbps download service with 35 Mbps upload, and on my switch the maximum I can get is 14.2 Mbps download and 8 Mbps upload. Wired connection, obviously due to the limitations of USB 2.0, is no better with an adapter. The good thing is that the games aren't really huge to download, thankfully my Xbox one X even wirelessly gets nearly 300 Mbps download. I guess it's all relative, if I got the kind of speed that I did on my switch on my Xbox or PlayStation there wouldn't be enough time in the day to download even a single AAA title, LOL.

For those wondering, MTU stands for Maximum Transmission Unit. Your internet sends data in packets, and the MTU essentially more or less defines the packet size. Raising it means more data is sent for each request at one time, raising download speeds, but you only want to push it as high as your router supports. Pushing the MTU BEYOND what your internet and hardware determines as the cap can create packets too big for the transmission, causing packets to drop (most common result of a too high MTU, creating choppy internet) or the system unable to break them down rapidly enough (software lag).

Sorry guys, my KZbin isn't the best about notifying me for comments and I just got the more recent one. Easiest way to explain it, is think like youre shipping 3 items in separate boxes, but decide to ship it all in ONE box to save shipping costs (data wise, having to send multiple packets for one file slows it down, but also decreases latency, while larger packets result in faster speeds, but slightly higher latency or processing times). So you get the biggest box that will fit all three. This box will hit 3 different distribution centers on the way to the destination (your ISP). Let's say the all encompassing box weighs 1500 Oz (coincidentally, 1500 is the maximum MTU setting). Your mail carrier (in this analogy, your home router to your ISP) supports boxes this size and ships it. Distribution center 1 (the next hop router, en route to your ISP) also supports boxes this size and it continues. However, distribution center 2 DOESN'T support boxes greater than 1480 Oz (another common MTU, 1480 bytes) and has to take the time to break the big box down into 2 separate boxes, with one of your boxes in one, and the other two in a second larger box (called packet fragmentation) and it takes time to do this. So now you have a fragmented box (packet) in two pieces, and it won't get recombined until it gets to your ISP where they have to do everything in reverse to send your reply packets. The goal with tweaking your MTU is to get it as high as possible where it doesn't have to fragmented, but also making sure your latency doesn't get unacceptably high for your current internet connection. There's ways to do this. Best bet is to Google "MTU ping test" without the quotes. You'll need a computer capable of running pings, and access to your routers admin interface because you'll want to change your switch to match or be below your routers setting. Keep in mind all of your home devices will have their own MTU setting for how they communicate so you want your router to match the highest of them all without risking packets breaking up along the way, or latency getting unacceptably high.

It is not always true that 1500 will improve your internet speed, because there are other technical things behind the scene. When using a value between 1400 and 1500, fragmentation of internet packets may happens, and when it does the connection speed will drop significantly. The real maximum MTU may be 1400, 1420, 1492, 1500 and in rare case other value depending on your setup. That's why Nintendo put 1400 as default. If increasing the value to 1500 will slow you down, experiment with the values in between. And check your router settings ;)

Might be better to specify that you are improving download speed. This doesn't exactly improve its internet capabilities. All this will do is help with things that requires/benefits from a higher packet size so online gaming and video streaming (under normal circumstances, maybe HD streaming could see a difference) will not be affected.

Any downsides to this? Why was it set to 1400 to begin with and not the stronger 1500 by default? Why not 1600 or more? does this work with all consoles? ANSWER ME!
@teriinekoyama13697 жыл бұрын
I have no idea who set that at default over at Nintendo, but they need to send that person to get a Network+ (or equivalent) certification; 1500 MTU is the standard for all networking equipment. There's no reason to go over 1500 MTU for this kind of stuff in the first place. It's not like we're transferring storage data over the network.
@jasonclifford27 жыл бұрын
VPN's... That is why the default is 1400. If you have any packet encapsulation it increases the size of the packet. Also, because the MTU is set to a different size...that is a MAX setting not really what the device will send. It really depends on how the data is streamed out the network device. So all packets aren't 1400 MTU or even 1500 if you set it.
@tristanweide7 жыл бұрын
It's because a faster send/receive strains the system more (which causes occasional dropped frames and more battery drain). The nintendo servers send pretty compact information for online play and downloads, so a faster speed is not needed unless you are downloading a lot of stuff or are trying to improve your online receive rate for games that require lots of data reception (like multiplayer doom). This is usually only problem for handheld consoles, as normal ones don't have batteries and have better performance. You can change it for the 3DS in the internet settings like the Switch. If you have a PS Vita, it automatically lowers the MTU for battery saving. You can't manually change the number, but you can change it to it's Max setting for MTU by going under battery saving and turning off "Use Wifi in power saving mode" (The phrase is a bit misleading, turning it on limits wifi to save power. Wifi is always used when you put the system into power saving mode, this setting just gives it a longer battery life in idle state by limiting the connection 24/7) If you have any other questions feel free to reply and ask.
@komodot92497 жыл бұрын
Short version the internet doesn't send you one complete file instead it sends you it in multiple packages. By increasing the MTU you increase the amount of data per package so you will have faster install times ,but can cause performance issues when gaming(cause more for the CPU to handle at one time). 1500 is the protocol standard and putting the mtu over that can cause data corruption cause the router is not designed to deal with that much information and it will either not get the data and send a error to the server or split it into multiple smaller packets which can cause the data to be corrupted. This is why you can not put the mtu over 1500. Here's what I say raise it to 1500 when docked and only when installing something and lower it to 1400 for the best results for online gaming or when in portable mode this can help save yourself from draining your battery and from perform issues online.

The reason why many devices have an MTU set to or around 1400 is for compatability reasons mostly. Some routers especially networks that have a proxy or some sort of portal gateway can cause connectivity issues when the MTU is too high.
