Joel Bottomley of Harrop Engineering shows us what supporting modifications can be performed to a supercharger for increased performance. The Harrop TVS2650 positive displacement front drive front inlet supercharger feeds a 427ci LS V8 engine built by Dandy Engines and tuned via a FuelTech FT600 management system.

@dj4monie
@dj4monie 5 жыл бұрын
@@yolofullsend That depends, superchargers need more air in than turbos do. That's why Kenne-Bell sells 100+mm throttle bodies. This TVS blower with a 102mm and 15-17 psi the output is very typically about 1000hp on the dyno. However by the time it travels through the automatic trans, drive shaft and diff it's down to around 950 hp. Still nothing to sneeze at, much easier though more expensive to upgrade supercharged cars, though 4 cylinder supercharging is lagging WAY behind, though you can get 500-600 whp out of Rotex setups and 2300 TVS on Honda K motors.
@midnight347

E85 is an automatic 5% power gain from fuel btu. I'd say it's knock limited to maybe 900 bhp on 91 octane. any tests? btw, 1-7/8" headers are plenty for this engine. you'll only see incremental gains with a 2" primary tube.
@fullboost
@fullboost 6 жыл бұрын
The collector was more of an issue. We did a back to back test on an NA engine using these headers and picked up 10hp up top. Yes they do still make good power on unleaded. It was tested on E85 as that is what it will run in the car. 👍

Queensland produces masses of sugar cane. E85 is less available compared to a few years ago, now it is in every major city at a bit of a premium compared to where it was widely available at a big discount. I think most people using it are doing so for performance and not saving money these days.

@user-pi6cs3ue4s
@user-pi6cs3ue4s 6 жыл бұрын
@@GIGABACHI Depends, E85 where I am at this year ranged from $1.30aud to $1:46aud and 98 premium ranged from 1:30 to 1:80. If E85 is 30% cheaper then it is economical. Otherwise its just for the performance benefit. I get about 60kw and 50nm of extra power on e85.
@user-pi6cs3ue4s
@user-pi6cs3ue4s 4 жыл бұрын
@shane marz Depends on your engine and setup, e85 is effectively acts like a higher octane, so if your engine timing is limited by detonation then e85 has more headroom to get the full potential out of the engine. On naturally aspirated engines you may not gain anything unless they have high compression 12.5:1 or higher. With forced induction it gives more headroom before being limited by detonation. So with the supercharger. with less efficient intercooling, I was getting +30% power on e85 vs 98 octane. For turbo with an efficient intercooler and decomped engine, the gain is about 10-15% and other advantages like reduced turbo lag as we are injecting more fuel producing a bit more exhaust. In the worse case scenario on low compression naturally aspirated engine not tuned for e85 (newer than 2009 or you could have fuel system issues) you could lose 10-30% power instead. E85 does have the disadvantage that you need to use synthetic oil and need to change the oil twice as often.

@@dj4monie how is the twin screw better when it takes a decent amount more displacement to top what the 2.65 tvs can do. Please explain that to me. 3.6 KB can barely outdo a 2650 in an all out built spinning it to the moon. Anything smaller than a 3.6 is gonna have a hard time keeping up with a 2650 tvs. Displacement for displacement the tvs owns twin screws. Whipple is better than kb for sure but even the latest greatest whipple needs to be 3 liters to play with the 2650 tvs. They make more power than the 2.9 whipple did as the op stated. You twin screw guys are just in denial. Anytime the argument is brought up the twin screw guys start talking about how a big ass twin screw can make more power no shit Sherlock let's see a 2.65 liter twin screw touch that tvs. It isn't gonna happen that is why they don't make them that size anymore lol. Dyno queen for the moment? I know I can eat off the piston tops😆 but when he lets off the throttle it stall shutters and belts start chirping,it alomst looks bad for the motor i know the only tyranny i would use is a 2 speed powerglide but that's me.these guys let off the gas and there ribs get bruised lol and yes I no its just belt slippage and going from WOT to idle why do we have to do that fuck! Awesome motor the car will be lots of fun

Look at that drive-by-wire TB blade flapping around, total crap. Switch to cable driven.
@azmartin1977

Its a street car engine and the DBW throttle is used to allow a blown, big cube and cammed engine to have some manners, the old GM stepper motor just cant respond quick enough, let alone pass enough air to keep up. That flapping is the ecu trying to stop the engine from stalling and also some input from the dyno operator and out of all the tuners i know or have met not one has gone, hey lets go backwards and run a cable throttle and yeah sure alot people go to cable, but thats not because it's better but just cheaper and they don't know the bennefits of DBW throttle.

25hp from a throttle body only, bugger all? Please show us your engine building skills if you can do better than that off a simple TB change That mod is cheap horsepower. 102mm TBs on eBay are under $100, so you're paying $4 per hp gained. That's a fucking bargain in any book.

@@MafiaboysWorld Its not about total number gain. Its about PERCENTAGE gain!. You don't feel 25hp on a 1000hp engine!

@MafiaboysWorld 6 жыл бұрын
@@mareksumguy1887 It's not just percentage gain, the point being made here is cost per hp. Please spend $100 on any part and get me 25hp, regardless of engine. You won't get 25hp from a pod filter, you won't get an exhaust or headers or anything notable for $100. Even going from 200hp to 225 isn't a great jump, it's only 12.5% but the way you're making it out I'm going to get pinned back from that jump of power. 🤷🤣😂

@@pannic11 I don't see why I can't comment on the owner? Give me a rational legitimate reason why I can't. If the video was clearly only about the engine, why did the owner need to be in the video? If I had of said something positive about some other aspect that wasn't engine related, would of you been upset about that? And save me your self righteous judgement on the person I am because I made some comments after some observations I made. Everyone judges and assess everyone constantly all day, everyday, its hard wired into us for survival. If you say you don't, you are lying. You've just taken issue with this because you either know this guy or you identify with him. If it was on some other topic you don't care for, you wouldn't of piped up. Tool of the week IMO goes to someone who likes to get offended on the internet. Anyway you need to settle down, lighten up and have a laugh.
