A lot of the commenters are giving you a hard time for being a bit tedious but I'd rather someone be thorough and maybe a little repetitive than skip over important stuff. Great video.

Thank you for this video. I like the level of detail you showed. A word of advice for DIYers when dry fitting pipes: the fit will not be the same as the final fit with glue. The wet glue tends to act as a lubricant that will make the pieces slide in more than on a dry fit. Additionally, it is a solvent glue-- rather than the glue itself binding the ABS together, it actually sort of melts the ABS to weld it together. So take that in to consideration when doing a fit. A plumber told me the general amount of change caused by the glue, but I can't remember it right now. If I remember, I'll edit this to add that information.
@velvetpaws9994 жыл бұрын
You can also mark the depth at which the pipes fit on the dry run, then when you glue them, just stop where the mark is. Would that help?

Hi Shannon, thank you for another great video. I could see you were a bit frustrated at times during the installation/recording, so I truly value the effort you put in while doing this one. I subscribe to more than 30 channels on KZbin, but yours is one of the few that I keep an eye on, to see if there are new videos out. I find that most DIY videos on KZbin are not as thorough or complete as yours, in terms of how you tell and show us all the steps involved in a particular project. The How To Build a Shed video series is fantastic! The latest videos relating to the house you are renovating are great! What a great opportunity to show us so many things!!! Great Video, thank you. One thing, the upper overflow gasket is 180 degrees out from what it should be. The thicker part of the gasket should be at the bottom since the wall of the tub is tapered and the gasket is designed to "make up" that slope. Thank you and keep up the good work. joe
@HouseImprovements9 жыл бұрын
+vintagedrums1 Itactually depends on the slope of the overflow pipe. If it is nice and plumb then yes you are correct but you can not always install it that way.In our video the bottom end of that pipe is sloped toward the tub a bit more.

That was a nice save coming up with the jog around the joist which obviously was not going to fit with a regular waste and overlflow. I would not trust just screws holding up the back of the tub, I always put a ledger on the back wall to support that side of the tub. Its also a good idea to put some mortar or foam under a fiberglass tub to keep them from flexing and eventually cracking. By the way that is a santee not a tee wye. This video should really help someone who has not done it before

Thank you for the video, excellent. I am removing this old tub installed in 1976 on a slab, so not sure what I will find when removed. I was particularly watching to see how to install the trap, as it is attached to the tub plumbing and to the main drain pipe. That's exactly what I am apprehensive about the whole project. Also, I am removing the ceramic walls around the tub, and since I do not know whats behind the tiles, I am kind of wondering how to build those walls on the three sides of the tub. Just thinking out loud. Installers will charge an arm and leg, so I intend to do this project myself, after a thorough think-through. Thanks
@HouseImprovements8 жыл бұрын
The plumbing connections most times in a slab under a tub are exposed a bit for access. until you get things open and accessible you usually do not know exactly what you are dealing with.
@SavioursWon4 жыл бұрын
@HouseImprovements just FYI if your bath doesn't want to fit right side up turn the bath upside down as you are lying it down to the floor obviously put a sheet down to protect the tub from scratching then once it is lying upside down on the floor turn it over. That should get rid of most of the angular length and allow you toget a tub in without too much concern for the wall studs or if it is a completed wall the tiles etc.
@nomorefortniteguy78005 жыл бұрын
As someone who does home renovation as my primary line of work, I could tell when the little hiccups were bothering you. Cut the shim here and snap it (doesn't snap). Go to screw in the tub, stud has been sawzalled. It's just funny when shit goes wrong and it couldn't be at a worse time :D

Hello Shannon,I am installing a Maxx tub in an alcove. The instruction booklet says to install a 1by3 under the tiling flange on all 3 sides.it also says tub shall not be leveled by skirt only under feet. I also thought that plumbers putty is not for use with plastic tubs as it may stain the surface or possibly react with material, silicone is the sealant to use. Please correct me if I am wrong
@zackzander4255 жыл бұрын
Yes no plumber's putty on plastic/acrylic tubes. Use the silicone.

Nice video. I am installing the exact same tub and curious if you had any tips on shimming it across the short sides? I’m ok from the back of the tub to the drain but the shorter sides are down about 1/2 inch on the wall side. It’s hard to access the underside for shimming while it’s in place. Thanks.

Great video. You did not need the plumber's putty on the overflow drain? I wonder why it's needed on the bottom one but not on top?
@HouseImprovements9 жыл бұрын
ds99 There is a large foam gasket used on the overflow.
@ds999 жыл бұрын
Ok I was not aware that it was foam. That should seal it well. When I take a bath the overflow gets used a lot because I generally fill the tub but when I get in the water rises and uses the overflow to prevent any flooding. After a year of looking at whirlpool tubs I decided to finally buy one and will soon be installing it. I need an access panel in the back. For an alcove tub like the one you installed, it would be difficult to access the motor on a whirlpool in the back. Some are on the sides.
