We call that a Californa Valley with the shingle laid along the "cut" edge. See that a lot here in Florida.

This is the way to do comp valleys because they look very professional. When installing the full shingle up the valley set those to a semi dry chalk line. Blue works best. People can see up the valleys from the ground so you dont want wavy valleys.

I like it great video. My secondary slope faces the direction that the majority of the wind comes from and it can get very windy Q- would it be advisable to put the cut edge facing away from the wind side on the primary slope? providing I apply roofing cement on the cut side? my thought is that it would prevent the wind from grabbing the shingles a tearing them off and wind driving rain right up under the shingles. BTW my secondary slope is part of a post n beam covered deck.

I wouldn’t worry about the wind, if you use mastic that will hold down the shingles

About the last part of the video about going 1 1/2 -2” pass the valley. Is it going pass or short before the valley

I’m confused on how to tie it in with the rest of the shingles or do you work from the valley out? I roofed for a summer but I was more of an errand boy and never cut in or messed with the valleys so I never paid attention.

1:35 - 1:45 what is the purpose of that first shingle piece that Marco put parallel to the valley center line directly under the perpendicular layers of the low slope shingles?
@RoofRepairSpecialist2 жыл бұрын
if that shingle was not installed the water from the valley would have run onto the top half of the shingle that should not be exposed. Hope that makes sense, it's a bit hard explaining these things without visual aids. If you pause the video at that time and imagine that shingle not being there, think of where the water would run off to.

Is that a stinger nail right in the valley?

You do realize he's nail Patten is not proper for the valley his second last nail on the under valley shingles are not 6 inches away from the butt shingle or end of the shingle how every you may call it its important that there are no nails a least 6 inches in both directions left and right from the next shingle to be layer properly water gets in between the joint in shingles and I've personally seen water travel up to 3 inches on a 5/ 12 slope roof so imagine a 4 or 3/12 or valleys that's why it's important not to have nails near the joint of shingles also how is he going to put the last shingle the very top one that is on the under valley if he already nailed the shingle on the upper valley I know it's a tutorial but just some advice to check up on and I'm a 6 year roofer I've done open cut woven double valleys so om not just a average Joe commenting I just personally like to do my job done the first time and make sure the home owner is glad with the work done to his roof plus it saves me time not having to go back again bother the home owner and spending time doing a second time what could have been done right the first time just sying
