In this video I install a hose bib on the side of my house. I use PEX tubing and shark bite fittings.

Love the idea of using the electrical cut in for the hole. I wouldn’t have thought of that, but makes good sense and will look professional when done. THANK YOU!

Love the idea of running the hose inside the garage then through the wall to outside. I was going to try to go down inside the wall(mine is dry walled), but who cares if it’s inside the wall? Even better in the garage in case of a leak! THANK YOUI!

Great video Greg! I found your video because I was looking to do something close to what you did in my garage. On my house, the PEX line that runs to the hot water tank is accessible in the attic right about the tank. I was thinking about cutting into it and adding a “T” fitting, then take that line out to the faucet. It would make for a cleaner install at the tank. I was wondering if you had scenario available on yours or maybe there is a reason you would not want to do it that way? Thanks again, love watching!

Hey Clay, Thanks for watching. While planning to replace my water heater, I planned to add a valved connection for this reason alone. All of the supply pipes in my house are run under the concrete slab which makes them all inaccessible. The only location they are accessible are at the water heater and under the sinks/toilets. The county water enters the house totally opposite of where I needed this hose bibb. This layout left me with the water heater supply lines as my only option. If I had to make one suggestion, I would not place a T fitting in the attic space. As good as the fittings are, its hard to monitor them for leaks. Now, I know there are many scenarios where there are plenty of these fittings in the wall under slabs and in attics. They all will probably last forever. That being said, the potential for disaster if it does fail could be huge in that configuration. I would put all my fittings outside of the attic space and locate all my pipes inside the building. UV light can destroy all plastics over time. Some sooner than others. CPVC gets very brittle so I wouldn't even consider using that. Also, make sure you put a shut off as close to the heater as possible, in case you have to isolate the line or winterize it. there are valves that have a bleed knob that let you shut the water off and drain the line so it won't freeze. This was not necessary in my climate in Florida. Anyway, I hope this answers all your questions. Let me know if I can help you further and how your project turns out. gregsshopFL@gmail.com

No drain on that line? I don't know where you live but if the garage freezes the pipes will freeze with water in them. I want to do the exact same thing in my garage except i live n NY
@GregsShop Жыл бұрын
I’m in south Florida. Any freeze we get wouldn’t affect that line. Last winter we had one freeze in the early morning and it was only below 32 degrees for a few hours. It’s tough on some of the palm trees but everything else is good. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

Nice video! I want to run a hot and cold water line into my garage from my washer/ hot/cold supply so that i can hook it up to my wall mounted pressure washer. I'm on the fence compared to using copper pipe or PEX... I always thought pex was something that would eventually fail? But it seems like it's extremely easy to work with. did you secure the pex tubing in the attic somehow or did you just go over the attic joist/beams? Watching your video seems like I can do this but I'm just unsure which material. I want to do this once and be done, and not have leaks or failures.
@GregsShop2 жыл бұрын
This is something you most certainly can do. Pex is easy to work with and much more durable than CPVC. Because it is flexible and comes in a roll, you can minimize the fittings and connections. I used the shark bite fittings and they have been perfect. I've had no issues at all. One thing I would suggest is instead of using the shark bite fittings, use the crimp style fittings. Once crimped, they are permanent and the pex pipe will fail before the connection at the fitting will fail. All these fittings should be available at the Home depot and if your store has a tool rental department, you can rent the crimper. Also buy or rent the proper pex cutter. One that does not compress the pipe. This especially if using the shark bite fittings. Try to put valves at the beginning of the run. It's nice to be able to shut off a section of pipe in case you have a problem or for maintenance. Regarding the pipe running through the attic. I ordered rubber insulated stainless clamps and fastened the pipe to the trusses in the attic. I did not want there to be any movement of the pipe across the wood and risk it creating a weak point. As for copper, it's expensive, you will need to sweat the joints and the install. In my opinion, it's more difficult to work with. Good luck and let me know how it turns out. Also, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. BTW, nice choice on the wall mounted pressure washer. I'm going to get one too...they are awesome and even better with hot water! --Greg. gregsshopfl@gmail.com

Why are you using red pex for cold water?
@GregsShop7 жыл бұрын
My buddy is a plumbing contractor and he gave me 30 feet of it for free. All I needed was the fittings. He would have let me borrow his compression tool but the shark bite connectors were easy. I know it's supposed to be blue but it's visible on both ends. Thanks for watching

Great video , but I am afraid when I come over with the tractor Ms Emily is going to really school me on safety first, I will have to be on best behavior. I really like the slanted hole in the cover makes the pipe come out of wall at a good angle and onto the copper pipe.
@GregsShop7 жыл бұрын
+rvkubotaman it was pain to drill it by holding it in my hand. Should have clamped it in the drill press and drilled it that way.

You are supposed to use a sleeve into the PEX pipe when it goes into a SharkBite connector
@GregsShop6 жыл бұрын
+Mike Leuchs not sure what you mean by a sleeve. Anything 3/8" to 1" have a built in pex stiffener. If I am missing something please let me know what part to get. Here is the installation guide from shark bite. Thanks for watching and commenting. www.sharkbite.com/sharkbite/wp-content/uploads/SB_InstallationInstructions_2017_FINAL.pdf

Ok I have to comment on 2 things: 1) PEX typically should not be exposed to UV light. It becomes damaged by UV light, so leaving it in driveway is a big no no. 2) hot water to a hose Bibb?
@GregsShop5 жыл бұрын
Hey Greg, thanks for watching my video and commenting. My ability to purchase pex is limited to Home Depot or Lowe’s in a full roll. I only needed about 40 feet. Rather than purchase a whole roll, my plumber friend gave me what he had left over from a job. So yes it is red but it’s hooked to the cold water side. Not really a big deal. As for it being exposed to UV, I rolled it out on my driveway to allow it to heat up so it was easier to run through my attic. That little amount of UV should not affect the stability of the pipe at all. I did consider running another pipe to the hot water side and install a faucet with a mixing valve so I could wash the dogs outside.
